Thank you! Window was going up last week, started hearing a crunch and then the window slid back down. Now I know how to take it apart without taking forever. 👏🏻

At 4:44 you see the vertical strut (painted steel) which should have a foam pad behind it- the glue used wasn't very good and by now many of these pads will have fallen off.....this means that if you slam the door with the glass down the window hits the strut- bad news. Always check the foam is secure, if not cut and glue in a new piece. I have now made sure this area is accessible without removing the door card, as i have modified the speaker grill to come off on it's own....but that's another story...

Thanks, noticed you did not show the tricky part of getting the new one in. Shame as that's probably the most awkward part. Taking apart is easy, learnt that as a young girl, being able to put it back together again and make it work again, took a few more years and an apprenticeship :) Thanks for letting me the inside of a ford focus before I attempt this car for the 1st time.

Nice vid my mom has a 2005 Ford Focus z3 it only has 35,000 miles on it and just today the window regulator went out , the issue is its the 5th time 2 drivers side and now this is 3rd time on passenger side , every time taken too Ford Dealership and every time right around 500$ , it's time I tackle this myself thanks , but I may be back for questions

I was cheap and replaced the drivers side with one from the junkyard, which surprisingly has held up. Then the other 3 broke within a week!

On my car (2004 Focus 4-door), the entire side bolster and vapor barrier was missing. How important are these parts? They are no longer available as spare parts, couldn't even find used ones on Ebay. Also when doing this job, please test your speakers before reinstalling the door panel. I found one speaker was not working due to a bad connector then I had to dismantle the door again. Don't lose any of the screws, replacements aren't available at hardware stores!

Great video! Can I get your input on the why the window would rattle when you close the driver's side door with the window roll down into the door? Also I'm hoping I won't have to do all the steps you show here to correct it. But if I do, at least I know what's involved.

Thank for posting this video, it has undoubtedly saved me a lot of cash I don't have. I have not been able to get the bolts back into the handle though, not sure if the door is out of line slightly but everything else is back together and the window is working perfectly. Should I be concerned about the bolts in the handle ?

No sure what year you are working on but in either case the j nut for the bolt must of fell down and now there is nothing to bolt is into, it would require removing the door panel again. As long as it works I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank, but my window in the back passenger side rear door has the problem, Its a 2001 ford Focus. The widow regu;ator motor is still working, But the window has come detach from the window regulator and the window falls open by its self. I believe I heard the screw fall off and made a noise I heard in the door. Do you have a vidio on securing the window to the regulator in the back door pannel?

Labor should be an hour most shops charge $100 an hour and I am not sure on the cost of the kit since it changes year to year.

I actually did this repair myself already on my 2003 ford focus on the drivers side, but I ordered the wrong part. my new regulator has an 8 pin socket on it. do you have any suggestions on how connect it with just the two wires I have or is there an adapter I can get or is it just a case of having to order the right part and start again?

Thanks for this video! It helped me change the drivers side regulator on my '04 UK model Focus. It's a fiddly job, but with a bit of time and patience it can be done. Has probably saved me a couple of hundred not taking it to the garage. Cheers!

Love your videos, those 5 bolts that held the motor cable rail system in, did those need locktite blue on them, looks like they had some on them or was this something put on these to aid instalation during production assembly, or does it just reset when you bolt these back on.

Hi The window mechanism keeps getting stuck shut. I take it out and it works fine ,then put it back in and it works fine , then after a while , sometime a week or two then it gets stuck up again . It’s doing my head in bud. There are a few little foam tabs that have fallen of the inside of the door . I’m wondering if they have anything to do it

Hey, how about this one - i have the four door and on my driver side i can roll down both rear windows, but neither front window. The passenger side window rolls down fine from its own controls, but nothing happens when i try to roll it down with my driver side controls. Any ideas?

Matthew Laydon Yes I there is a break in the wiring in the door hinge are at the A pillar likely on the passenger side. Open up that loom that goes form the door to the body and inspect for broken wires.

2012 Ford Focus..passenger side window quit working yesterday. I think the motor may be burned out because this winter my son was try to lower the window first thing on a cold winter morning. Taking it to dealer.

Curt I know this is an old post but did you figure out what the problem was? I got a 2012 and the drivers side window quit working. I'm thinking either a bad switch or motor.

How do you fix a 2001 focus window that keeps sliding down?

I have 2005 ford focus zx4. Driver window work some times. Like right the window was on the up position for a long time. Today started to wor. There is not we or noises. It wor perfectly. Might be the lift motor? Or Connection problem ?

How do I replace the clips and reassemble the door? I ordered the clips and the door was disassembled by some one else so I have nothing to go off.

My driver side window only sometimes works, the passenger window I cannot open from the drivers control unit, but the passenger side can successfully roll it down and up. The only other window that works is the rear left window that can be controlled by the driver. What do you think is the cause of problem here? The motor?

+Twooz I have seen over and over again wiring in the door jambs break and cause these issues. I have a new video out on a Ford explorer that goes over this condition in some detail towards the end of the video yours is the same.

Hi, awesome video, thanks a lot. I have a 2005 Ford Focus and have been having intermittent functioning of the electric windows. They seem to stop working when the engine gets hot... Sounds weird, right? After a while, in the evening when it cools off outside or in the morning, or sometimes just anytime inbetween, they work again. Could that be related to the regulator as well, or do you have any other idea?

02 Same issue , Driver window works intermittent, replaced switch Twice ..seems tapping panel near the mirror switch gets it going .. not always ~~ like a bad wire on something ..Yes crazy ( pressure switch in regulator ??? idk )

did the clip break or was the motor bad? for clip wouldn't it be easier just to replace the clip instead of whole assembly?

I replace motor and switch and i hear motor clicking but still no window movement?????????

pull the door panel get access to the cables on the regulators and cut them and the window will drop

Hey man, my wife has an 05 focus. I took the door panel all apart and replaced the regulator and motor and it still won't move. Tried a new switch and same thing. Is there a fuse just for the driver front window? That's the only one that doesn't work. I replaced the switch already last year because the back windows wouldn't work. Please help.. not sure if it's a wiring issue or what

Well yeah the drivers gets used the most but that is still too short a time period. I am guessing you are using aftermarket?

Do you think I could just replace the bottom plastic window holder/clamp, or just replace the whole regulator? Thanks great video!

I would replace the whole regulator too many other failure points best to be all new.

I'm curious if I run into problems with the window not going up and down smoothly? where can adjustments be made, there doesn't appear to be any adjustability built into these type of window regulators. I have a 2000 Focus ZTS four door.

Eric Jensen Almost always it is the window motor it self but some test is in order here for sure.

At 06:13 how did you hold the window while taking regulator unit out?

Yup you replace these as an assembly.

How did u keep the window up while u were working on the car , or did u remove the window? I wanna install a window regulator for the rear door on the driver side of a zx5 2002. Also how did u get the regulator to fit In the door?

I took the window out, those windows are pretty light . Just have to be careful so it does not get broken!

there's a lot variety in available parts, Do you recommend cheap, expensive, oem, or?

I have a 2009 Ford Focus Ses 2 door. I purchased a 4 door driver side window regulator but can't get it to fit. Are the two door and four door regulators different? Is there any way to adjust the window regulator to give more slack so it can fit? Cheers

This video is great and makes me feel like I can do this myself :) I found a regulator from Amazon that would fit with my car, a 2013 Ford Focus SE with power windows, but it states that it's with a manual window. Can I assume that won't work as a replacement for my driver's side window regulator?

Yes I would have the door panel off and test for voltage getting to window motor when this is happening and work your way back from there.
