    Just wanted to say a huge thank you for this video. I’m a complete novice but managed to do the job thanks to you! The vents now have more silicone than Pamela Anderson 😉 so hopefully sorted ✅

    Thank you for an excellent video, which was a great help to me. For anyone doing this repair on the Mk3 Estate version, the following might help. My car was leaking into the spare wheel well, but not through the vents. There are only two vents on the estate, which are on each side at the wheel arches, and which were not leaking. The problem was four unused holes in the back panel which Ford had covered with self-adhesive pads and which had eventually saturated and were hanging off. I cut some plastic patches from a food container lid and siliconed them over the holes. Result - no leaks. Thanks again

    Just done this. Have a dehumidifier getting the remaining water in the carpets out. Was talking to someone only yesterday who had the same thing happen in their Golf. However, seems to be loads of Focus's suffering with this. For a company that has been making cars for 120 years and invented mass production this is piss poor.

    Finally did this today. My goodness those side vents 😡😡 anyway I was still struggling to work out how the water still gets into the boot because when you take the fluffy woolly thing out the water doesn't actually go anywhere but out of the bung plug hole 🤔

  • @dayv

    @dayv

    @Lotte Tass I think there is some screw holes or wiring that enters the boot near the vents. Could be moisture in that area getting into the boot. It's an odd one. But hopefully you have sorted it now

    Hey mate, saw ur tutorial re this which I am having as well , with the insulation that you took out did you put new one's in and since you resealed with silicon has it water got in to the car....thanks

    @Andrew Thomson I didn't put any fluffy stuff back in. I didn't see what it's purpose was. So far so good not leaks no water in boot. Before I had puddle in spare wheel well. Now it's dry. Just make sure they area is clean before applying the silicon otherwise it won't bond very well. Doesn't stick to dirt.

    I have to do this job soon! What I want to know is did that cure the problem? We noticed a problem months back when we had very wet carpets in front passenger and rear passenger sides then discovered the wheel well was overflowing with water, and soaking the near side of the car! So did this solve the water ingress into the boot area ? Great video on how it’s done! 👍

  • @dayv

    My boot is dryer than Dubai 😃 just make sure you clean the area thoroughly before applying the silicone to the vents. So far so good and I done this a year ago? Still dry to this day. !! Deffo recommend and no need to take it to a garage either. Its easy to do looks more daunting than it is.

    In my view it’s pointless resealing the vents, as due to vibration they just work loose again Remove the plugs from each side underneath, using long nose pliers remove the insulation. This can be a pain, as it’s soaking wet and expanded Leave the plugs out, this will ensure any water that comes in goes straight out, plus increases airflow to keep it dry
