Ford Focus MK1 Aux Cable Hack
This 2003 Ford Focus Audio system of mine needed an update so I thought I'd give something a try... an Aux Cable install.
It worked so here's how I did it.

Thanks man you saved my day. I’ve searched for weeks and couldn’t find anything useful but now it works absolutely amazing. I myself put a Bluetooth to aux adapter in it and it works flawlessly.
Great video !!! After 15 years with CD and Radio only, now i have the music i want from multiple devices and talk and listen to my mobile. Very good explanation of the steps. I am amateur but i did it pretty easy!. Thank you again !!!
That is farkin' brilliant man. I've been a ham op for 20 years and I never would have thought to do that. Bravo out of box thinker
Man, that's the hack! For months I've been wrapping my head around how to source audio from a phone to 6000CD and there we go! Thanks!

But can't change it for a new one with usb?
I've been looking for how to do this for my mark 1 for three years! Thanks for taking the time to do this, I'll be breaking out the soldering iron soon. Genuinely grateful and will be chuffed to bits to finally get my phone linked in.
I just did this on my Puma... I wanted to keep the dash and stereo original and it works perfectly... Sounds just like the CD playing Thanks for sharing 👍
Cool! Just followed the steps and made it yesterday (2003 Ford Focus). Coat hanger can be used as a tool to dismount the unit. Silent CD image easily found in the internet. Had to borrow a screw driver from a friend. No glitches or noises. Works well so far.
Thnx for the detailed how- to! This works like a charm on my old crappy ford radio. One hell of an upgrade for only 3 bucks and 30 minutes of labour😁
Hi , just did this on my 2001 Mondeo. Work perfectly. Thanks for great video. FYI I bought a cheap $4 adapter on eBay that is meant to be used for the CD6000 that have AUX button. Then could just cut open the big plug that should go into the radio and ended up with nice wires "pre-terminated" connector pins, nice and easy to solder to the circuit board in your hack.
THANK YOU for this tutorial! It turned out i have a 6000 CD with cd changer from ford focus from 2005. Bought some gear, learned how to solder and now I am driving around listening to sweet sweet music in my car! THANKS!

Awesome!! Well done 👍
Thanks very much. I found the soldering a bit fiddly - those points to attach to are tiny - but it worked. I can now play BBC Sounds, Spotify etc, anything on my phone through the Audio and it sounds pretty good. Fantastic!
I did this today in my Focus MK1 (2004), had a CD6000 original radio. The soldering was difficult, because the pins weren't at the described positions, very small and close together. But I found them on my platina on the opposite site of the flat cable. Soldered it as described below: Mass-wire to AGND Red wire to ROUT White wire to LOUT. Drilled a hole into the back side of the radio, fixed cable with zip-ties and Lead it out on an unvisible spot. Empty CD-track was build with freeware "GoldWave", burned it to CD and thats it. Works like charm. Kudos to One Auto for that brilliant hack!
hi man! greetings from pisa, italy I followed your precious step-by-step instructions and after solderin' the CD board my mp3 began pumpin' music into my Mondeo MK3... good job man, good job...
Thank you! Just performed this little number after watching your video. Connected to Agnd instead. Worked great!
Thank You Rob, managed to sort my aux input out and it works a treat!! i drilled a hole where it says "compact disk digital audio" and glued a female aux connector onto the unit itself so it looks neat.

You're a man of many talents Rob. I converted my car to have an Aux input by getting one of those kits which plugs into the plug designated for the CD changer.

I looked for these kits as well, but I've only found ones of 60 quid or higher. Where did you find it? If I looked for a CD changer plug to 3.5mm cable I only found ones for the Mk2 Focus
Aww man, you have made my year!! Been looking for an auxiliary cable which I could plug in for my Mondeo MK3 but they're so hard to find. Gonna use the hack today!

I wanted this for a looooooong time, but they've said it wasn't possible to connect my phone, because there is no input or bluetooth. Now i'm veeeeeerrrrryyyyy happy. Let's rock that thing.
Muchas gracias por tu ayuda. Compré 1 metro de cable más el conector hembra, en total 0,85 € de material. Las soldaduras me las han hecho en una tienda de informática y le di 2 € para que se tomará un café. Lo he montado y funciona correctamente.
This hack works an absolute treat, did it today on my 2001 ford ka during my lunch break at work.... Legend!

Hi man, i have ford ka 2008 with cd 6000 rds eon without cd charger and aux button. Will it works for me?
You save my life :D It works so great even with standard CD. Not to loud but still better than only radio. I will record the Silent CD and be in heaven.
Gran solución para modernizar tú radio de coche sin cambiar la estética... Funciona perfectamente! Muchas gracias !!
In addition to this video: You can change songs using standard Ford's multimedia joystick. 1) Take 3.5 mm TRRS wire. It has 4 poles - L+R, mic and ground. 2) Connect left and right channels as it was shown in the video. 3) Locate "Analogue remote" wires. They are located in the central connector of your head unit. You can locate them by just using pinout schema or by measuring resistance and pressing buttons on the joystick. 4) Remove or cut these wires from the connector. WARNING! It will not control head unit any more. But honestly, do you need it? Connect mic and ground poles on your 3.5mm to them in any available way. Soldering is the best, but you have to power the tool in your car somehow, so I just used insulation tape. Now you have teach your phone where is right buttons. I have Xiaomi and I did it via standard headphones settings. Track+ and Track- buttons are working as they should and Volume- is working as pause button. Unfortunately, I don't know how can you map more buttons, but if it's possible - let me know.
Yes ! Did it on my stereo, works perfect....Nice work man !
I did an Aux hack on my radio too and I really recommend to add a female jack, and just plug a stereo cable into it. The reason is if you pull to hard on the stereo cable, you will just unplug it. It will be quick and easy to plug it back. If you pull hard and you have soldered the cable directly to the radio PCB, there is a chance you have to resolder a wire/ all the wires. It will take you more time to fix that !!

Greetings from Portugal.Worked on my ford galaxy 2001 radio. Great.
Bravo !!! Great solution, I have now the music I want!! Many thanks, great !!!
My works transit is about to get some seriously good beats playing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank You! Done it! Although there is a little background noise but im going to see after i try a silent cd.
This is a great idea, and it does work. Thanks for posting this. My attempt at this has some electrical gremlins however. I tried this with my wife's 2001 Ford Focus wagon. It works only when the car is off. As soon as the engine is running, the left channel cuts in and out even at a standstill. Then while driving the left channel either cuts out completely or seems to flutter in time with the engine. The oddest part of this is that when she presses the brake pedal both channels play. Maybe a slight change in voltage from the brake light switch activating solves the problem? Since I can't pull over to listen to tunes all the time, I am going to try grounding somewhere else on the radio and see if this helps. First, however, I am going to take the wire completely back off and see if the problem isn't a short in the cable I am using.
There you go Rob; now you can listen to music from your phone. When you were soldering the PC board, I noticed that there were solder openings for both channels along with a solder opening for the ground. Only one of those openings, I think it was for the left channel that coincided with the solder pads you soldered to. Being me, I would have placed the wires into those exposed holes and then it probably wouldn't work :) Nice work Rob!

When you don't use the CD and the phone goes silent (for example for a second as you change from one track to the next), you get a loud blast of whatever CD you have in the player which is jarring at best.
Thank you so mutch man for this video. It worked like a charm .

Hi. Purchased auto Ford focus MK1, the radio has no aux input, rummaged the entire Internet. All show how they work, but not who shows how to do it. Thanks to your video now know how to do. I'll take care of it tomorrow. Thanks.
Great vid mate! There must be a transistor that switches the different signal paths to the op amp. You can bypass it and fix the output of the cd signal path, thus you will not need to put the silent cd on. You will be pretty much connecting the output of your phone right into the input of the power amp stage of the radio unit. But schematics are required.

¡Hola! A question, if you put the CD on pause, the cable that was installed works, that is, put a normal disk with music but paused, do you listen to the music of the cell phone?
neat trick, got to have decent tunes when you're stuck on the M1

Mondeo MK3 radio working thanks mate :p
Thank you so much! It worked! Unbelievable!!!
Excellent video friend and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us, but I would like to ask a question. This circuit, which you showed, would support an audio input signal of 25 watts, emitted by an amplified board with a USB port, thus distributing the sound to all the speakers through the device's audio outputs?

Hello great video, some how I shorted the whole radio and it doesn't turn on, do you have a diagram of it ? to check the fuses and so on , thanks in advance.
Just got a focus today and glad I came across this! For the aux cable cutting back did you slice around the fat bit and just pull the jack itself off the wire? I don't want to wreck the aux getting it down to its wiring 😂

Thanks! This looks great. I'd previously used one of the devices that plugs in where the CD changer would. It worked great, but I it was silently gradually draining the battery if the car was left unused for a long time. I think it must do with current to kid the unit it's a CD changer. Weirdly the company that made it seemed to not to know. With your hack, does that mean the CD isn't usable for normal CDs any more?

Mark Armstrong The CD player works as normal
I used this tutorial for a Ford StreetKA (2004) but used RCA instead of AUX - slightly different way of getting to the CD player and a couple other differences i will list below for anyone interested: unplug the lights and power cable when removing radio unit take off the case on the other side (where the white plastic thingy sticks out, that side) few extra screws to get out the CD player as you’re coming from the other side but easy enough to figure out fed cable out the side next to the lamp plug because i’d already put the CD player back in but that last one was on me 😂 i used a RCA to aux cable instead of aux to aux, it was so fiddly soldering two grounds as i had to use the ground right between the L and R audio, used electrical tape to form a barrier between solders once cool so they didn’t bump about,
hi, one question regarding cd radio-lg lac3710r Can an aux be made and what cd should be put blank or?
