Fix: 2011 Fiesta -> I took a section of flexible silicone tubing attached to an air gun, and with an air compressor blew out all of the lines, and used it to verify flow. It flowed through the solenoid, it flowed through the exit filter, but there was some obstruction in the charcoal filter itself. I blew it out and got some better flow, then took it to the gas station to verify, and viola, it worked! Before replacing any parts, try the blow out method. If it still doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the tank vent tubes and see if it takes gas. Take a floor protector to the gas station and connect a line at a time while filling and see which component causes the obstruction... Also, never overfill/top up your tank, as this could affect the EVAP system over time... So for me, blowing out the charcoal cannister worked like a charm. There was a lot of dust that blew out.

Just did this on my 2011 Fiesta and the problem is fixed. For free! Awesome! Getting the hoses apart after 12 years was the hardest part.

Thank you, that was my problem, I went to the junkyard and got both filters with the hoses and the round part (I believe that's a vacuum) all for $30. After installing it I went to the gas station and I couldn't believe it, it works now I'm able to fill up my tank without the nozzle stopping every single time by itself, thank you for sharing. You rock!

nice! i have a 2011 fiesta ses not taking gas throwing codes can't smog. hard to start cold rough idle for a few minutes then clears out i bought it used with the problem at a great price cause of problem. would the valves that you cleaned cause purge valve problems as well

You might have two different issues. The fueling issue is likely the screens I cleaned in this video. I would suspect an issue with the purge valve itself for the rough idle. The two of these work together and could both be needing attention.

Second time I have referenced this video now... thank you. BUT, for it to clog up so quickly (less than a year) I'm wondering if I'm missing something ... perhaps the main canister/inlet? May also just be poor design.

The black cylinder in the fender well is the only access for dirt. Do you live on a dirt road?

@carsurvivalist I gave it an extra thorough clean this time. I'm not on a gravel road, but being in Ontario means there is lots of road salt which gets dusty when dry. I thought the canister might have a pre-filter, but it doesn't appear to be so. Thanks again for doing what you do.

My fiesta is doing the same. Just bought it too. Dealership claims they fixed it but it’s still having the same issue. Would a fuel cleaner help clean it?

Not if you have the symptoms I describe in video. The dealerships typically don't know this trick (atleast the dealerships that worked on this car before me)

I ahve a 2015 focus which wont allow me to put fuel in, the nozzle just shuts off, do u think this will be the problem?

Not 100% on that year but I would think it has similar system. If you jack and support drivers rear of car you should have enough room to inspect fuel vent system. If there are the buldged (filter) canisters within vent lines then this process just might help you.

did you empty out the tank to do this?

No, these tube are vent tubes and shouldn't ever have fuel in them.

Would this be the same for a focus 2012
