I’ll be honest you’re driving it like it’s *your* car (which I know it is) but seeing as how expensive it is to run these days I can’t blame you at all. One crash and you could be out of the whole thing. Must be nice for those with unlimited funds who have a spare car and the option to just purchase another anytime they want! As long as you’re having fun that’s all that matters, nice video man keep up the good work!

Great driving and super cool POV! I'm not sure if it's the GoPro or somewhere further along in the editing/publishing workflow (or maybe even on my end), but the video seems to lose detail in some areas (e.g., road, trees) when you're driving at higher speeds. Maybe it's related to vibration from the gravel surface that gets more and more pronounced at higher speeds. If that were the case, the effect would be less pronounced in POV videos of you driving similar speeds on smooth asphalt (I didn't find any videos like that on your channel, which is understandable). It's a minor quibble but something that I hope you can figure out. Capturing more detail in the road and trees as they rush past might help convey the sense of speed, which could make this already great footage even better.

We do have lots!! 😂 This is why I start in 2nd and keep the revs above 3.5-4. Otherwise the turbo makes too much torque at 2.5-3 and it's all wheelspin. Also I've found a touch of brake helps on those situations, but in this slippery mess it's why I'm not going anywhere too fast, all spin. This is a 2017 Fiesta ST, stock engine and transmission.

One thing I got to say don't think about crashing it makes you slower if you go fast and think you'll crash you will or you will drive slow if you don't think to yourself about crashing you be fine and also the wet surface maybe scary but get in there and make the car slide smooth and feel comfortable and confident no comfortable and confident driver = to slow driving. Also in fwd cars in rally you want to more slide around and high engine rev not destroying the engine but to the point it comes out of the turn fast and you want to be get high rev in the while turn in these cars if you watch wrc you see when they take hairpins the want high rev same goes with all types of cars but especially front wheel gives you more momentum but what do I know I just drive sims and also improve but these are the tips I use to improve myself

  • @MIEJ4

LOL, yeah it's a bit different when you have to have the car hold together for 120 competitive miles over 2 days and a simple error means you're out of the rally. Also it's a lot easier to not get scared in a sim, racing is dangerous and we all know it, we lost 3 people just last year rallying in the US, a crash is serious business. Appreciate the feedback and we're always striving to get better, if you ever want to try the real thing hit us up about our rental program!

175hp on dirt is more than enough. You aren't going to ever see 5th or 6th gear, you are keeping it in 3rd gear most of the stage. 300+ HP is what the WRC teams with millions of dollars and 12 man teams behind them are driving. If he modded the car to make more HP it would throw him in a much more competitive class where he wouldn't be able to compete with the guys who can afford to throw their cars in the ditch. This is probably ARA or NASA unmodified.@@proweb11

Not bad boys but wrong gear from start to finish.. Keep the revs up in the powerband where you will have more engine braking and less understeer and less wheelspin. With lower revs you're in the torque band which will spin the wheels as soon as you tap the power on. Brake with your left foot with the power on to balance and position the car into the corner. Not easy on loose gravel in FWD cars, i spent 25 years rallying MK2 Escorts and the odd FWD. You are just fighting constant understeer there and letting the rear end just follow it. The technique in FWD is to approach a corner, brake with your left foot and turn the wheel in. The car will understeer in a straight line and load the weight onto the front wheels but then as soon as you release the brake the front end will grip and turn and the rear will slide out. It's all about weight transfer, you'll increase your stage times massively.

Appreciate the great and thoughtful feedback. The power band on the ST is between 3.5 and 5.5K rpms (dyno sheets confirm this). Unfortunately would love to have the powerband of an aspirated Mk2 Escort but with the 1.6T on this and the tiny turbo we can't swap for the class it really makes it so there's no power above 6K (turbo drops to like 14psi)

I know not everyone was born with a supernatural skill for driving at high speed like I was, I just wished I would have been one of the few to Prove my skill, if that would have happened, I might have lived my dream of being one of the best drivers in the world. Sadly chronic back pain has taken me away from driving now. My hopes and dreams only cause me more pain and suffering anymore. If you get to drive a race car, consider yourself very lucky, even if you don't win, just having that chance is something that those like me never get. I wish I wasn't bitter about it but I wasted my life trying just to end up unable to drive to the store without it hurting me too much. I bet if I tried to drive like I use to, I'd break something!

@@puravidarally if you dont do what you know you need to improve and even mention you know you need to improve, you're even more stuck. And if you dont know what grannyshifting is or what a powerband means you should rename your channel. If you want a video, watch any actual rally driver's video. Them all shifting at way different spot in the band should give you a big hint. If it doesnt, dont call yourself a rally driver...

@@kealke lol, trust me, I watch more videos and sit with way more talented drivers very often so know exactly what to improve. This car is very different than most Fiesta videos you'll see which have a sequential and built engine with big turbo, the stock turbo means powerband is lower in the rpms and that we have to shift using a clutch and not just banging gears. Our R2 does have a sequential and it's awesome 😉

@@puravidarally First of all, sequential or standard manual box do not change where your powerband is and when you (should) shift. Secondly, I've tuned plenty ST's and i've seen plenty stock ST dyno graphs (which you can also look up for yourself) to know that at your shiftpoints you end up too low in the band to be at best efficiency. Do with it what you want, judging from your "lol" in both comments you dont want to take others advise seriously anyway. Just an engine builder/tuner with 30 years of experience trying to give you some tips, but if you dont want them, fine with me. Good luck!
