Ford f100 gets a modern rear end: Disk brakes and 4 link suspension

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I love working on this truck. Probably more than the Falcon. In this vodeo, i get the rear end swapped out after i discover that the 9 inch in the truck is trashed. Thankfully I had a good 8.8 waiting and ready to go. Watch as I struggle to get the measurements correct while installing this new rear end with a parallel 4 link.

Good stuff Rob, I really like how you don't hide your struggles, Cobber... you share all the dramas & even the f#ck ups that challenge you & how you overcome them. Wish I had an old F truck to play with, don't paint it. I hope the well body is as nice & patina'd as the cab. What a good dad you got. And the music today... much more appropriate..I've been toying with the idea of a 8.8" for my XP Aussie '65 Falcon wagon. Apparently the pre 2000 Explorer's had 31 spline axles & LSD & they're pretty cheap. Only thing is you need to remake the tube on one side or buy 2 diffs because the stagger is so large, one side t t'other. Really enjoyed this video.. I'm catching up to almost present day.

Yeah I can get away with the offset in the truck. Bigger deal in a falcon for sure.

Off topic, but, what size wheels do you have on your Falcon?

No problem! They’re 17x7s. I have a full video on measuring the car for backspace and getting the right fit. It’s an older video but still has some useful info in it.

    Is ur pinion angle up?

Yeah three degrees roughly. You want it opposite and equal the transmission. 3 degrees down on the tail shaft is pretty typical. I’ve always set them up like this and it works great.

@@rdspeedfab but under acceleration ur rear end twists upward, so u need pinion angle 3 degrees downward. Opposite of the twisting motion of rear end.

@@rdspeedfab I follow u on equal n opposite angles, accounting for the twist also. I suppose if ya dont plan on hard hits its fine

@@rickyfulks889 yeah I definitely wouldn’t do it on a leaf spring setup. It would be closer to zero because the spring would wrap and the pinion would change up to around three degrees. 4 links don’t really change pinion angle on a launch. I mean they’ll deflect a little but not anywhere near what a leaf spring setup would do. Maybe half a degree.
