I own a 2007 XLT , no major issues with 138,000 miles , absolutely no rust , but small things like rear actuator issues , driver side window regulator and believe it or not , lug bolts have a cover that separates. I replaced original plugs at 117,000 miles and a coil pack. Only major issue was the fuel pump going out at the gas station with a full tank. Would buy another if they ever put V8s back in them...

I have a 2012 EL limited and can confirm it is an amazing road trip vehicle. Parking lots are the bane of its existence! Most of the time I’m that guy parking in the back 40 taking up 4 spaces. However short of a school bus there was nothing available when 3 of your 4 kids are over 6’ that could fit us all

My grandparents have 3 Expeditions. A 14 with the 5.4, a 15 with the 3.5, and a 21 King Ranch. All bought new, all still owned and driven on a regular basis the 14 has 115k miles on it and still has original parts and feels brand new. No ticking, no weird noises, doesn't feel weird, been running on conventional oil which gets changed every 3-4k miles and has yet to break. Grandfather loves them to death and doesn't want anything else for the rest of his life. Keep in mind, he was a GM guy most of his life

  • @Cajun1978

The 5.4 V8 gets a bad rep but it's a solid motor if you take care of it. They require regular oil changes and a good oil filter that isn't restrictive and has an anti-drainback valve to keep the OHV drivetrain happy at startup. Mine has 455,000 miles and shows no sign of stopping. Also, keep the speed at 65 or lower and they do good on MPG, anything faster and they suck down gas.

Just bought a ‘14 Navigator L 4x4 with HD Tow Package with 140k on it and it runs amazingly. We are a family of 6 with 4 boys! Currently in the throes of baselining the maintenance on it, going full synthetic on all fluids that can be. So far it’s gotten air filter, oil/filter, transfer case fluid change, transmission pan drop and filter change, both diffs gear oil change, coolant flush and refill, power steering flush and fill, front and rear strut assemblies, and have the parts to change belt and tensioner, plugs, and coils. Trying to get her as bulletproof as I can before we take her on roadtrips. We pull a 14ft utility trailer with a 2017 Polaris Ranger XP1000 Crew (total trailer, UTV, and gear is right at about 3500lbs) with plans to get a camper in the future. Haven’t gotten to test out the towing until I finish all maintenance, but I’m really enjoying the vehicle in the week I’ve owned it. Comfortable ride, most comfortable vehicle seats I’ve ever sat in, overall build quality is still excellent looking some 8 years later, and we got it for a great price at just a hair over $15k OTD. I built a new 2023 Navigator L 4x4 with comparable specs on the Lincoln website and a new one would cost $105k!!! 😮 I’m happy with ours lol

I'm in the process of setting it up the way I want it. Should be done in the fall. Can't wait. It will be better than new. Will be my strictly weekend toy. The price of a new one is crazy. Lots of real nice used ones out there with no rust. And no payments.

Personally worth it to get the 3rd gen Lincoln Navigator instead of the Expedition. Can be had for 7k-20k depending on year but options is pretty standardized with everything after 2008. The air ride, upgraded window isolation glass and body panel insulation is worth it to be dead quiet while driving, and oh so much more comfortable with rear airbags. Wish you would have shown the difference in rear storage with 3rd row deployed.

Same drive train, little different body and interior styling, but built with most of the same components (switches, computers, navigation, shifter and all the functional hardware). A few extra frills like sunroof, real interior wood panels and air-ride suspension system. Fits the bill for a luxury hauler for people and stuff and a dream to cruise on the highway.

I was looking for an F-150 but found this mint condition beauty w same capabilities but more room and luxury for less. I was expecting soft land yacht ride but this is not that. 11 yrs old and not one squeak, rattle, or broken part. The somewhat sporty handling, tight steering, brakes and acceleration were a welcome surprise. Ford put all its experience w tough trucks into the build quality. Puts floaty rattly GM competition to shame. Didn't see it coming but I have fallen in love. Now looking at my Lexus GX sideways.

You almost catch the characture of this great truck but the independent rear suspension rusts worse than an old battery terminal making the truck unsafe. The rusty rockers and floors are only secondary to the rusting chassis. The bodies and interiors stay pretty well except the signature rust on the lift gates and the leather that cracks up. If I could find the shorter xl without these problems I'd buy it immediately oh yea the 8 coils that cost over $40,00 each and the cooling sensor that is below the intake manifold are not that nice.

I have been shopping for a 2010 sequoia 5.7 v8 4wd. Frame rust issues and cam tower oil leaks are the weak spots. Have not found one yet. I looked at the expedition and found most folks considered them trouble by 150k miles. Further the 5.4 v8 three valve has huge oil passage sludge failure. And the cam phasers and timing chain tensioners have oil seal failures that destroy the engine since all the oil pressure is in series leading to the right cam and valve train. If your dads truck is still running it must have had lots of oil changes. I want your honest opinion about buying a sequoia vs a expedition. And the 2015 and on expedition with the v6 eco boost seems do far to be a more reliable engine. So i want a large comfy truck for year round wisconsin family car use. I dont drive many miles so the gas mileage is no big deal. Would you recommend the sequoia or the expedition ? I know to try playing a bit to learn about overlanding the toyota 4wd stuff and suspension are better. Your honest opinion appreciated

A better comparison would be the gen 3 with the 3.5 ecoboost. You give the impression that the Ecoboost only became available in the Gen4.

Religious oil changes with premium oil/filter holds off the 'sludge' issues, same as any car. It is critical for the 5.4 because of the VVT that requires more oiling points, passages, and operation of the phasers and solenoids. The VVT will get your mileage up to 22-25 mpg highway, but once you have a load or in the city, your mileage will drop. You are supposed to be able to tow Gen 3 using OD, the six speed tranny has two overdrive gears. However, a lot of VVT vehicles require timing jobs between 150K-200K and cost about the same, $3000-$4000. You gotta do it, so save up. If you are a good mechanic, $800 in parts and a day or two of tedious work in your garage. The bad rep of the 5.4 is because a lot of owners bought used, don't know the service history, and go cheap on oil and don't plan for the timing job. Parts to change are the guides, phasers, solenoids, upgrade to a Hi-Volume oil pump, and the roller-rockers too, as they wear out and have been upgraded to direct oil better. The 2008 5.4 has the re-engineered heads, so make sure you get one of those, or later. As for towing, the 9200lb package is not very common and if buying used you must research the vin number. One sign you have the 9200 capacity is if the trailer connector has seven pins. All the others only are rated for about 6000lbs.

To be honest, the 4th gen seems pretty cool with all the new advanced features and superb engine specs, but the exterior body style just doesn't seem to catch my attention. I have a 2011 Expedition EL XLT and damn that truck is amazing...mileage is a bit high but I use it to haul big loads and has never failed me. I'm currently working on restoring it and fixing several broken components

I’m looking to get either an older 3rd gen or a 2018 model or newer. I don’t want a 2017 because it has the first gen ecoboost. Which had some reliability issues. Ford fixed those issues in the 2nd gen ecoboost which went into the 2018+ models. It’s nice to see both gens compared. So I feel good about going with either. It’s hard to justify $60+k on a vehicle but at least it’s going to last and be worth it.

Consumer Reports just said Suburban and Tahoe are most dependable large SUVs. I guarantee having a naturally aspirated V8 is why Suburban is more reliable than garbage eco boost in Expedition.

We were posting reviews of this style on our original channel for a while and it proved to slow that channels growth. The majority of subscribers to our other channel want enthusiast focus vehicles and comparisons. Yet, manufacturers send us mostly CUVs and SUVs because they have more of those. So we made this channel for those reviews and it’s growing as hoped, as is our other channel. Thanks for watching!

U know that a car is the biggest money pit there is in life, you're paying about 85k total depending, in 4 yrs that vehicle will only be worth (maybe) 30k and those who financed it, you'll owe more that what it's worth

Definitely. But on our podcast and elsewhere we also discuss the fact that spending the amount of time most of us do in a car that isn’t enjoyable is a tragedy. While we totally understand if someone wants to be frugal with their car purchasing, we also know that everyone has frivolous purchases in life - the place where that money is spent just varies. Thanks for watching.
