    I bought a 1.6 Laser in 1999, listed at £150 but I got him down to £120. Absolute shed, but I loved it. Can't imagine shelling out for the current market price now though. I miss the days when they were cheap fun. 😢

    Think you will find any car this age that doesn't suffer from rust/rot!! I'm a Capri owner and it's Awesome!! Love these cars and nothing like it on the road. They are a real head turner & gets lots of ❤ wherever you go 😊

    I used to have a not so mighty red 1.6LS. I absolutely loved that car. Bought it for £500 and sold it for £700 to a guy who promptly wrote it off.

    My MK3 Capri made in 1983 is my baby. It's got everything. Factory sun roof , tinted glass , 5 speed , open rear Windows , fantastic cockpit and interior , hatch spoiler. , heated rear window , remote mirror , etc , etc . Bought her in 1989. Best car I have ever owned. Been offered 30 grand for her, I don't know if this guy was serious, but I walked away laughing saying she'll never for sale in my life time.

    I had 2 Capri's, a mk2 1.6S and a mk1 2.0 V6, loved them both. The main problem was the rubber parts of the steeing attachments, very exposed to dust, rain, etc.. I had to replace twice on both cars ! It was the same parts on mk1,2,3, except for those which had the power steering I believe, 2.8i and maybe optional on 3.0 ? Also had to replace the column steering flector on the mk1, a spare that was hard to find 30 years ago.. Cheers from France.

    Fantastic video. I had an absolutely stunning 2.8i in period and to this day I've never loved driving a car as much as I did that. It was a very special experience.

    The video would've been much, much shorter if instead of pointing out where to look for rust, you pointed out where NOT to look for rust lmao Only playing, i used to love a Capri and still smile whenever i see one on the road. Great Video

    Brilliant well made video. Only one point is was unaware that any Capri 2.8 had rear disc breaks when new? I drove a 2.0 laser that had drum. If the 2.8 had rear disc from new I’ve learnt something new.

    I only ever had one Capri - a 2.0S - and I just didn't get it. Even on twin webbers, a four branch and a cam it was only average and got completely smoked by my mates (stock) Astra GTE. I tried a 2.8is because I was going to trade mine in but it was hardly any quicker if at all. It looked great but it only handled ok at best and wasn't anywhere near as quick as the looks would suggest. I always wished they had put the Sierra Cossie engine in them or maybe the V8 form the Mustang and done a new one but I guess with the Mondeo on the horizon with its Fwd based platform, it was never going to be. Instead we got the Kuga. Considering BMW and Mercedes dined out on the profits form their sporty Rwd offerings all through the 80's and 90's I can't help but feel there was a hole in the showrooms where a new Capri could have been. When you think about how popular the Miata was its hardly a stretch to think a coupe/drop top based on the Sierra platform (or a re-engineered version of the 4x4 Mondeo one at a push) could have done well. I often wonder how much better the Kuga could have been if they did it properly instead of going for design by committee and cost cutting. I love looking at Capris though and they are nice to be in - they feel like something special. I used to think about getting one and doing that Cossie conversion but prices for both the car and the engine now make that cost prohibitive.

    The standard production Capri never came with rear disks. Also when checking the transmission fluid on the dipstick, make sure its cherry read and don't smell burnt, pretty elementary stuff missed here.

    This a very nice video but just a few thoughts from my misspent youth, thirty year / six Capri ownership and Capri literary studies: No mention of the 3.0 at all which seems very odd? The 2.8 Injection was a very important addition as it without it the brand would have died in the early eighties. But the 3.0, particularly in S form was a fantastic thing with considerably more firepower than the 2.8 could muster and was just generally awesome! Clarkson called it, " The Most Capri Capri." I had two and absolutely loved them - far more than my 2.8 Injection. The Professionals liked theirs too. The five speed gearbox appeared in January 1983 on the revamped 2.8 Injection with its new Shark Grey fabric interior and Ghia level soundproofing. Lovely car, just sold mine after 20+ years. All production Capris have a front disc / rear drum setup - the 2.8 Injection having vented front discs of a larger 10.3 inch diameter. So you can't upgrade lesser Capri rear drums with higher spec model discs because they don't have any. The Tickford is the exception and that uses modified Peugeot 405 discs - the calipers stick - a lot. Although Capri prices have been absolutely ballistic for the last few years there are more than a few, decent, well presented and completely usable 2.8 Injection and Injection Special for sale at the moment on auction sites for around the £10-15k mark. This might be a sign of things to come or it could be that all the very expensive Capris have already found buyers and there are none left for the non-concourse examples - either way, it's great news for enthusiasts! Total Tickford production was 85 cars with roughly half remaining.

    The silver and gold 3.0S Capri's from the The Professionals were sold together as 1 lot at the Silverstone Festival Auction held in August last year and fetched £186,750 !

    My Grandad had a 3.0S from almost new. He traded in his A35 van for it. I remember the conversation when I was in the back and my unckle who was passenger asked Grandad why he wasn't using top gear? He said he was but then my unckle pointed out there were four. The look of sheer joy on my grandads face has stayed with me. It was even better when he found out it would still go up hills in fourth aswell.

    I get that these buyers guides remove the need to have insurance to drive the cars covered, but I would prefer a review video with some buying advice. I’m much more interested in how cars feel to drive than how to buy well. Often much of the detail is the same for most makes and models. Rust, some mechanical issues, some electrical issues, and unique and rare trim parts! The sounds and feel can vary much much more! 😊
