Hi
This car came to me from another garage, no crank, no start with the immobilizer light flashing and a message on the dash saying engine systems fault...
When scanning, no communication with the PCM...
Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.
Hope you enjoy the video.

I've fixed literally 100s of these. 99% of time it's the cluster. Odd time it is that earth. Usually the earth if it's constant no-comms and when customer says it's intermittent (or problem started intermittently) it's the cluster. First job is always to resolder the connector on the cluster. It still could bounce on you as the cluster has been out and this helps crack the solder anyway. Focus, CMax, Transit etc. all the same from about 05 to 11 (maybe more). Don't worry if you get U1900 code from cluster after a fix as that's just the cluster not liking the added traffic from the scanner. Also, you were right about the ABS thing. A lot of stuff now has high speed CAN for comms and a different line for diag. Good vid 👍

I have done about 30 of them over the last couple of years. The solder joints literally crack around the plug. The other common one is the wire that goes from the engine ECU to the bonet fuse box, that fires the efi relay, it corrodes right on the bend in the big T junction where the harness is all taped together below those 2 ground points.

@@threepotMR2 Yeah. It amazes me how many different cars we get in and the wire that seems to corrode the most is the wire the ECU switches to GND to switch the EC relay on. Doesn't matter what make.

@@timmehlittleloud2251 Maybe its to do with electrolysis as it's a continuously loaded wire?? Or maybe someone in the factory is paid to stab a hole in the insulation just so the cars last about 7 years in the British weather :D

Exactly my problem. Had the air box out as I was doing a couple of jobs and must of knocked a bad earth connector. Sporadically lost comm's with multiple systems at once and knew it was a loom issue. Video sent me straight to the root of the problem.

Hole you get back and running... Clusters on these are also known to fail at the solder points... and need re-solder... For most likely will not do that, and will just replace the entire cluster... Thank you for watching and for your comment!

Just to say a big thanks for this video. I've had the same problem on my 2008 MK2.5 Focus 1.8 diesel. I had reflowed the instructment cluster solder joints a couple of times and replaced the the main earth cable but didn't know there was other earth cables underneath the air intake. Three connections all intact but in a bad need of clean. Once cleaned engined started first time. Codes cleared and hasn't popped up again. 🙏

BCM is new (build date 2018 and VDO didn't own Siemens in 2007) so I'm guessing by new snap bolts on the BCM cover that Ford already replaced the BCM to cure this problem. Snap bolts can be drilled to hammer a torx bit into the hole to unscrew. Looks neater

That's a job well done. I was pretty sure that fault would've been at cluster as they have bad solder joints. Well at least I had mine fixed when dash occasionally died on my Mondeo (then again it didn't do anything with immobilizer, it ran just fine). Btw it's kinda irony that wiring loom connector was in quite angle and wire was short. Connected to shaking engine it just wore out. I'd bet that it would've never happened if loom would've been connected straight at factory. Little things that can kill modern car.

thanks for your valuable video! never thought about checking with the other keys! if anyone can tell me, does a power steering failure message and the car not starting on a ford focus 2006 2L TDCI could be the same issue as here, lack of ground? (if I understood the whole video correctly, hey I did watch it twice lol) my car just started doing that, when you put the key in,nothing all dashboard lights turn on and it doesn't start, however if i move the very hard steering wheel around and it clicks as if locked and try to start, it does start sometimes. it was running just fine a few days back though.

My instrument cluster on my 2010 focus completely lost canbus comms even after resoldering the board and sending it away 2 times to supposedly get 'fixed'. Eventually just changed the instrument cluster from a scrap car and programed it using elmconfig

But i'm having some trouble with some modules like , door modules , seat adjustment , etc .i guess the electric shop guy messed up the wiring . Looking at WIS/ASRA its hard and not that much easy to undestand . Do you know some trusty source for the wire diagram of this car? . Autodata3.24 , vivid workshop has nothing that helps,Hellagutman is super but not accesable from my country

Before this issue, drove perfect *, parked for 10 minutes and after won't start. Sometimes it starts but after 10 seconds the engine stopped without rattle. Thank you in advance.
