Ford 9 in Differential Gears Assembly

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Everything is painted and cleaned. Let's start assembling this Ford 9 in rear end. It gets all new bearings and seals but it doesn't like the first set of bearings.
Check out my other videos in the rear end series.

Hey.. I use that press all the time. I never knew how much I use it. Definitely well worth having in the shop.

Thanks so much for the detail you put into this! I'm working on a recently acquired '68 Park Lane, which has a leaky axle seal and a leaky pinion seal. I don't think I'm going to completely rebuild the rear end unelss I find it full of glitter, but this is the best series of videos I've yet seen on how it all comes apart and goes back together. Good luck with your '64! I had a '65 for almost ten years and loved every minute of it.

I saw that you had the small bearings and were never going to be able to set anything. I had the same thing happen to me one time. The easiest way to set backlash is to run both adjusters in until you have all the side to side play out of the differential housing with a good amount of backlash. Then run the ring gear into the pinion until you just have zero backlash. At this point you can put the lock on the adjuster on the ring gear side. Now start tightening the pinion side adjuster until you have the desired backlash. That way you set your backlash and case spread (bearing pre-load) at the same time. I didn't see you pre-load the carrier bearings. They need to be pre-loaded just like the pinion bearings. I also noticed that it appears you have a non-hunting gear set. I saw a mark on one pinion tooth and two marks on the ring gear. You are supposed to "time" the pinion to the ring gear or you may get ring and pinion noise.

Hey Joe. So you're saying I still have some work to do.. lol. I appreciate you pointing those out. Looks like it's coming back out for a little Tune-Up.

Hello. How frustrating to find out you had the wrong bearings! Glad you were able to get it dialed in just right. I like how nice the rear axle looks. George B

Hey George, good to hear from you again. It was frustrating. I stopped filming so I could properly vent... Lol. Good thing it was an easy adjustment, and it went together easy.

Hey Matt, Great video. Do you have any footage of you prepping the rear end for paint? I am getting ready to swap out the rear end in my '67 Galaxie 500 for a 9". This video and the tear down video were REALLY helpful. Thank you!

Hey Cameron. Sorry for the delay. I put a video short out to answer your question. But if you don't have access to a sand blaster then I would degrease it and then wire wheel it. I'm glad those videos helped. And you guys really help motivate me to keep at it.. thanks.

Hello Ken. It's the Thunderbird shop manual and you can get it at thunderbird headquarters or birds nest online. It's a great resource on these complicated cars.

Hey, just came across your channel tonight. Watched a few of your videos. They are very interesting and this one in particular was very informative. I was surprised to see the coil over shocks. Are you using those in the front to replace the original coil springs since your working on the front suspension? If so, I've never seen anyone do that before. I've seem them in the back a thousand times as a band aid for worn out leaf springs. The original front coil springs are very stout so I'm wondering if those will adequately hold up the front, or are you trying to lower it a bit? You've got a big project there and it will be interesting to watch your project to the finish line. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos, it will help others with their projects. Keep up the good work.

It's great to hear from you! I've watched all your videos and learned so much from them. I'm sure I will have questions going forward, so thanks for putting your knowledge out there for others to use. It will be interesting to see how the coil overs work in the front. I got the hevey duty ones that are for the thunderbird, so theoretically, they should work. Thanks for watching and there's plenty more to come.

Instead of putting crappy music on why don't you do an over dub to say what you are doing. A lot of people have never seen or have done this. Your video is virtually useless.
