Exit 45 Restorations

Exit 45 Restorations

Hi I'm Matt and I started this channel to document the restorations I work on and share them with all of you. I know I've benefited from others sharing their projects so I felt like I should share as well. I take old cars that have been forgotten and rusting away and completely tear them down, restore all the parts and reassemble them. I'm new to this and have completed two cars so far. The name, Exit 45 Restorations, came about because I want people to exit the freeway and explore America's back roads. You'll discover some of the best people and food out there as well amazing views of small-town America.

Come watch as I continue on this journey of trying, failing, learning and improving.

    Good to see the Tbird coming together, I had fun doing engine bay, rust proofing floor pans, cleaning up wiring looms.Are you going to treat inside of rear quarters? While I had the rear seats out I left the car out in a light rain then noticed a puddle where the rear seats go, It seems it had been leaking where the roof joins on the rear quarter by rear side windows, new sealant on those joins and some touch up paint and good to go. It will be a fun day taking Dad on the test drive. 😊

  • @Exit45Restorations
    @Exit45Restorations3 күн бұрын

    Hey Steve. I did protect the rear quarters. I'll have to wait until I get the doors and such on to test if it is fully sealed. That's a good idea though to do before the interior goes in. It will be a good day when this car takes its first test drive and my dad will definitely be in it with me.

    I just recently did this on my 65. There are 2 things that i noticed. The locating pins on the new springs are tiny and they dont locate the axle correctly. I used a socket from underneath to center the axle on the tiny pin. The other thing is the shocks. I cant remember if the old ones had washers on the lower mount. I suspect they were stuck to the shocks and got thrown away. I used some washers from sway bar links and drilled them to fit. Worked perfectly

    Hello Matt. That odometer was a bugger. I think when trying to clean those old parts something like Windex needs to be used first. Even soaking in soapy Dawn soap and water probably would loosen up the gunk and not ruin the plastic or numbers. I've also had issues with electronic cleaners that ruined plastic surfaces. The speedo repaint looked like it will be ok. I was going to suggest painting the gauge indicators purple to match the car, but that might have made it too difficult to see them. Lol. George B

  • @Exit45Restorations

    Hello George. So I do like the idea of soaking the parts. It's a little late for mine, but it's a good story of my dad blasting all the numbers off, so I'm keeping it as is. I never thought about the purple for the speedo.

I found a guy in Eugene Or, who recovered my dash and did some very nice stitching on it. I could send you a photo if you want.
