Ford 4000 front wheel hub replacement

I got the wrong parts and find out after the install. But God provided a way of escape.

It's been years since I replaced a wheel hub. You did an excellent job of explaining each step for a novice. Job well done.

only if I'd pulled those hubs years ago I might have been able to do a simple rebuild i.e. replace races and bearings and not have to buy new hubs. negligence can be such an ugly thing. costly too. thanks for the compliment and for watching.

The reason that the hub was rubbing on the bottom of the casting is that the thrust bearing at the bottom of the spindle had completely disintegrated!! The thrust bearing keeps the spindle in the correct position so that what you experienced doesn't happen as well as the spindle rubbing on the bottom of the casting itself. The hub was not the wrong size. If you were already taking the hub off I would suggest to replace the two spindle bushes and thrust bearing too. Thanks for sharing your video.

we'll enjoy your video and how you explain things I'm so glad you keep making them. one thing nice about making videos to get the talk through it to make sure you're doing the right things. and if you have to do it again you can go back and watch it. hope you have a good evening

"go back and watch it" the camera was running when I flung a fit after realizing the hubs were actually the wrong part for the tractor. it was about a 2 minute rant before I calmed down. certainly not suitable audio for all age groups. it was good to see how the elevated blood pressure did not produce the result of magically changing the hubs into the correct part and just how worthless getting that upset was. yep going back and watching something again does have a certain measure of value. Elm custom harvesting, your comment here has within it a tremendous value, thank you for saying it my friend.

Brings back memories of the day my front hub broke on the 4020, that flange with the studs broke in two. I was using the loader to haul sand, apparently it was too heavy! Good thing was I used the loader to lift the front off the ground so i could replace the hub out in the field!

that for sure was a matter of convenience being able to use the loader as a lift. this reminds me I need to lift the 4020 and check the wear and possibly adjust if necessary. thanks for saying 4020. :)

There is a video by 'Bundy bears shed' called 'How to change your front kingpins' I would recommend watching it as I think you may have to do that job too if you havent already. Good luck !

This repair was done back in the year 2016 and later after revisiting the issue I found exactly what you just described. Thanks for pointing it out and stating it like you did, gave me kind of a nice feeling. Thanks for watching the video I hope you'll come back and watch some more.

A bearing puller would work too put in the bearings. You could attach to the outer rim of the hub and push the bearing in square. Your method works but there is always a danger that you go off square and your bearing gets stuck. Great video.

Thanks for watching. Yeah I agree bearing puller would pull it in straight there's always a risk with driving it in. Getting these new hubs and getting all this rebuilt sure did improve the tractor.🙂☕🇺🇸

You change wheel studs on the tractor with the wheel on. Just take the nut off and hit the stud inwards with a hammer. Then use the nut to pull in the new stud just do one at a time with the wheel ON. This way stud stays Square Just a tip, done it this way on old Ford for years
