    Simple solution to the greasy ball dilemma. Use a nitrile glove to remove the ball then remove/invert the glove over the ball and everything is contained. You can probably buy a box of 100 nitrile gloves for the price of one pair of those nice leather ones too.

    MrTruckTV I have a question about that. Isn't it the Combined GVWR of the truck and trailer v. actual weight that justifies the CDL? I guess what I am saying is that truck with that trailer unloaded required a CDL for someone to drive it correct? Thanks in advance.

  • @MrTruckTV

    @MrTruckTV

    C Nevs It is the Combined Gross Weight Rating, so you are correct some police folks would ticket you for towing rig with a GCWR over 26,000 lbs. Very few police folk will pull over a truck towing an empty trailer unless your lights are working or you run a stop sign.

    You have to touch the greasy ball to take it out and put it in the bag. You have to touch the greasy ball to take it out and flip it over. The only difference I see, is in the bag the greasy stays clean and is ready to tow next time you need it. When you flip it over in the bed the grease picks up all of the road dirt and then must be cleaned and greased next time you need to use it.

    Nice Trailer, i have the same make & model just a different version... i got mine with the Hydraulic Dove Tail so 24' of solid deck & 6' dove tail ( 30' total Deck Length ). later when i get a different one i will go with the 40+ ft or so length with air bag suspension, maybe add 1 more axle & lift-able axle(s) when empty... but you got some options on yours that look nice.. that wish i had gotten... never realized that Colorado was so bad about people and trailer hauling.. i have driven fuel tanker semi down there to help out & i live and work in wa. state we have a lot heavier weight limit here but no requirement for someone to have a cdl unless there over 26,000 total weight at the time but on your setup they wouldn't even stop you if you had your tractor on it.. And also wanted to say hi to you.... have see many of Your video's & tell Kelsey hi... nice to see she is having fun driving.. www.komrofs.com/images/20150413_140907.jpg also don't mind the rims on the truck... that's how i bought it.. I ripped those off and put Alcoa's on it with Toyo HT's since it's only 2012 Dodge 3500HD DRW 2WD with a few bells and whistles haha & i also pull it with 2007 Chevy Duramax (LBZ) Silverado Classic 4WD with many addon(s).. The Ford 6.0, 6.4, and 6.7L diesel engines put out an insane amount of power and torque. So does a 1/4 mile dragster. But that power has come out in guaranteed unreliabilty. Ford squeezed too much power out of those motors and its components. Even with religious maintenance they are disaster prone. The Ford diesels are notorious for catastrophic failures. And when they do fail, the cost of repairs are in the thousands of dollars. It is a shame, because they are truly beautiful trucks.

  • @Stonemasters11

    +WAVETUBE84 When they fail they all cost a lot of money to replace and they all fail especially the newer models with DEF. Why connect the 6.7 to the previous engines, it was built to deal with higher levels of power by Ford not IH.

  • @rileykirk11

    @rileykirk11

    8 жыл бұрын

    +WAVETUBE84 If you have ever seen the internals of a 6.0 or 6.4, mainly the 6.0 you would see how much effort and money was built into making it powerfull, yet durable. The the 6.4 can handle 550hp easily on stock internals, it wont blow up but it will wear really fast. The 6.0 is truly a marvelous piece of engineering...Its such a great design - but its complicated and new when it came out emmisions system (and shitty head bolts plus only 4 per cylinder) were the only downsides. With $2k get yourself a tuner, intake, egr delete and some headstuds you got a 350~400 rwhp engine that will go 500k miles with ease. The 6.4 is more of a throw away engine becuse of how fast it wears but its very beefy...its connecting rods are easily 2x the size of the 6.7's. If ford really got down with international and released the engines 1-2 years later with all the bugs sorted out, they would be awesome.

    One question no one has ever really been able to answer is why do Ford and Dodge trucks with the exact same trailer squat more than a Chevy/GMC? I pull a 40ft Load Max flatbed gooseneck with a 2015 CHevy 3500HD Dually. Other guys working with me pull the same trailer with new dodge's and ford's and they are sagging bad in the rear end. I barely touch the over load springs with just the empty trailer.

  • @MrTruckTV

    @MrTruckTV

    9 жыл бұрын

    +jamesmunster GM went with Asymmetrical springs in 2011, axle is forward of center. That works for them and GM is designed to be level when at max load. Ford and GM at max load will go below level by their design. They all need air suspension like semi-trucks did 40 years ago. Someday they will listen. Ram is at least trying air suspension.

  • @jamesmunster

    @jamesmunster

    +MrTruckTV Ahh that makes plenty of sense now. I did put air bags on a 2013 GMC 3500HD Dually and it really didn't need them. I was looking at trying the new 2015 Ford F-350 but that is the one thing i don't like is the sag in ford but a simple air ride system or super springs should help it out just fine. Moonlighting at night with the headlights is also an issue when they sag. Have you ever reviewed the Kelderman 4 Link air suspension?? Kinda pricey but definitely looks worthy.

    Doesn't B&W state that if you are hauling a heavy load you will need to remove the ball as it can hit the Diff Cover. Car Manufactures don't want that liability so they make the owner remove it completely and I'm guessing this is why Ford and Ram do it this way...

  • @MrTruckTV

    +M Keoni W (M-Dog) B&W doesn't offer the hitch on Tundra 4x2 because the ball upside down is to close to the differential. I don't know if they do it on all their hitches.

    MrTruckTV the video was an install either on a Superduty or Chevy HD by etrailer.com. They recommended removing the ball if flipped and hauling a heavy load to avoid the risk of ball contact with diff. Just thinking there are probably reasons why the manufactures chose the more difficult route? I still agree and prefer the flip approach

    Why the repeated nagging over the capacity of the goosneck ball when the quoted (low in your opinion) capacity of 26,000lbs is greater than the towing capacity of the truck? For the truck you are driving, the max tow rating is 23,500lbs. If you had chosen a F350 Crew Cab with 4.30 gears and the F450 front axle (comes as a package), the max tow rating would be 26,700lbs. To get to 30,000lbs max towing capacity you have to get the F450. 14,000lbs GVWR gets you a class 3 truck a.k.a. Light Duty. 14,001lbs gets you a Class 4 truck, a.k.a. Medium Duty. This is a marketing tool through and through. You also may want to take another look at the federal/state requirements for a CDL...

  • @MrTruckTV

    @MrTruckTV

    8 жыл бұрын

    +RUFFSTUFF138 Do you have a CDL? The point I was making and brought out in the video, is the used truck a F450 which starting in 2015 comes with both the 2 5/16 ball and the 3 inch ball. If someone buys this truck used and only gets the 2 5/16 ball and doesn't know it can only tow 26,700 lbs of trailer with that ball may after watching all the TV commercials, think he can tow 30,000 lbs. Or as with most people has a trailer with a 2 5/16 coupler not a 3 in ball (rare) and now after buying the used 2015 F450 thinks he's safe with the smaller gooseneck ball. The Ram 3500 has a 14k GVW, Ford F350 can have a 14k GVW and the Ford F450 has a 14k GVW, so what's your point about class 3 and class 4. All three are class 3 trucks.

  • @RUFFSTUFFMEDIA

    @RUFFSTUFFMEDIA

    8 жыл бұрын

    +MrTruckTV Understand your point and believe it comes down to consumer education and not marketing. If you look at almost every truck ad you'll see several terms thrown around, payload, towing, fuel efficiency, etc. The catch phrase of choice is always "Best in Class..." blah blah blah. Two things of concern: (1) the specs are very rarely from just one truck i.e. payload from the regular cab gasser, towing capacity from the crew cab diesel with 4.xx gears. (2) In Ford's most recent case, the 2015 F450 is significantly UNDERrated at 14,000lbs GVWR to keep it a Class 3 truck and thus compete against the Dodge 3500 (max towing package). Again, it's mainly about the marketing, though some have found it harder to get insurance on a older F450 due to the GVWR being over 14,000lbs (example: 2010 = 14,500lbs). I'm not hating on Ford, I have a 2010 F250 6.4L and a 2015 F350 6.7L (Platinum because I'm not from Texas!) and I appreciate the overengineering. Do the goosneck balls (!) have a rating stamped on them? I pull a 5er and both of my couplers have the important ratings right on them. If that's the case, I would like to think that someone would check before hooking up 30,000lbs to anything! I tow a 43' toy hauler so I am not required to have a CDL. I live in Georgia so I am also not required to have any special license endorsements. As previously mentioned that it's the GVWR/GCWR ratings for commercial vehicles and not the actual weights that affect licensing. All taking the tractor off the trailer did was to draw less attention. Forgive my rudeness, I forgot to mention that I enjoyed your video and appreciate you and Kelsey hanging out with us... Keep up the good work...

  • @MrTruckTV

    @MrTruckTV

    8 жыл бұрын

    +RUFFSTUFF138 I agree with the marketing verses education. I try to do education which is why I don't take any truck advertising on my websites. I was intending to look at the Ford balls for a rating and forgot to do it. RV'rs have it made with licenses. Which is one of reasons I like Stable Boy which is a conversion that fits the back of a toy hauler to haul horses. The police ignore it where they tend to pick on horse trailers. I've been interviewed by magazines several times about CDL. But I haven't written the article because it's hard to be accurate with all the different state laws that make it difficult to know the law. CDL was suppose eliminate the confusion but didn't. Thanks for watching.

    I have never heard anyone cry about grease so much as you. Wear gloves, get a rag, it won't kill you.

    You're missing the point. Putting a greasy ball in a baggy and then in a pouch under the truck seat is ridiculous compared to turning the ball over in the hitch socket like B&W, Popup, Curt and most all aftermarket gooseneck coupler companies.

    I was taught when I was finished with something clean it up and put it up. Hearing so much about the greasy ball touched a nerve. Thanks for the reply. By the way it's 26001#. Little humor there.

    Not sure if you talking about CDL at 26001 Lbs. But for the greasy balls 2 5/16 in, Ford is 26,500 lbs, Ram is 30,000 lbs.

    Way too much yammering , redundant talk. Way too many "nice" words and I lost count on how many times you used the word "greasy ball" . Get to the point, open the hood, get specific on details, ..ie using the manual mode vs auto, using the engine brake etc. Nice folks though. Thanks for sharing.

    nuclearthreat545 $6000-$12,000+ per Ford engine rebuild vs buy a dodge cummins once and not have any issues over $2000. I have seen more than one Ford need a rebuild and not just once twice before swapping to a cummins. To bad they didn't do it from the start.
