For six years, this orangutan lived in a tiny cage. Now he's nearly free | 7.30

Last year, Foreign Correspondent discovered Jono, an adult orangutan, at a quarantine centre in Jakarta. He'd been held in a small cage there for six years.
Now, thanks to the public response to the program, Jono is being moved to an orangutan sanctuary in Borneo where he will learn how to live in the wild. Adam Harvey followed Jono’s journey for 7.30.

I feel like there is more to it then that. It seems like he is the keeper at the quarantine center. Not in charge of it. I ASSUME Jono was kept there when he was on the way to or from a private blackmarket buyer. 6 years is a long time to care for ANY animal in a quarantine cage and especially for an animal like a large male orangutan. And I agree the keeper should never have allowed it that long. Like the other reply said, he likely has a family to care for. And am going to assume being a keeper is probably a good job in his area. So its not as black and white. The team that first found Jono there found him "by accident" I dont 5hink it was reported. But I am guessing that because he was in the video he did help to arrange at least some point of the rescue and likely no longer jas that job. Or I could be way off... Cannot ever know for sure

    Жыл бұрын

@@Hastalaverga420 funny you should mention that dipsh*t, children need a clean glass of water and can’t get one?? Perhaps part of the problem might be the massive swaths of rainforest us humans have plowed under. Do you have any idea the amount of fresh water supply a dense rainforest is responsible for producing through evaporation alone??? The Orangutans forage on the largest variety of wild growing fruits, nuts, and vegetables out of any great ape. A healthy Orangutan, with the huge amount of fruits, nuts, berries and vegetables they eat every day is able to disperse a ridiculously huge number of seeds from many hundreds of various tree species just through their droppings alone. Honestly how TF do you think the rainforests constantly regrow and regenerate?? Sure, humans can replant forests but nowhere near as effectively as the native species that live in and spread the seeds all day, every day through that natural interaction. Seriously, set aside your BS virtue signaling and using the typical “help the children first” guilt trip. It’s pathetic and just reflects your ignorance to the fact that those people who try to make a difference, whether it be helping the poor, helping the sick, or animal and environmental conservation, all typically respect and work together towards the common good. What they don’t do is sit on KZread telling other charity organizations that they are wasting resources. Instead, they recognize that all types of charity, aid and conservation groups strive towards the same goals of raising awareness as well as making a difference. Imagine having the arrogance to sit around telling people who are ACTUALLY doing SOMETHING to make a difference that YOU know better 🤦‍♂️
