For Olive Ridley Sea Turtles, Laying Eggs is Grueling Work

The shores of Oaxaca, Mexico, are the maternity ward for Olive Ridley sea turtles. Over the period of a few weeks, four million females will arrive here to lay their eggs in the sand.

    It's really sad that all of those female sea turtles are putting a lot of hard work in order to lay their eggs... only to end up being stolen by some egg poachers :(

    Who cares if they take the eggs , mother left them and until they are born they aren't considered life . That's well known in America life doesn't start til they are born

    It's no wonder these female turtles are so tired. With the weight of that shell to carry around and all the traveling. I would be downright exhausted too. 🐢🐢🐢🐢💓💓💓💓

    Lived on n the beach in Puertorriqueña Escondido. We went out on a sea turtle siting. Before too long we couldn’t see land and were surrounded by these truck tires in the water. Maybe 25 to start. 45-50 before we left. Amazing!

    I've seen a Ridley or two but we didn't discuss any of that. Students in Texas help the hatchling get to the Gulf. The gulls think it is feast day.

    I don't understand since the egg is cover in sand, when they hatch, how do they breathe and get out of the sand?

    They dig their way out fast enough to be able to breathe again when they get out of the sand. So they also have to hold their breath.

    The male bear doesn't take care of the cubs, the tiger doesn't take care of the cubs, male one, the lion definitely doesn't take of the cubs, where are these turtles dad? Right it doesn't take care of them. Sharks don't take of there young male. Geese and penguins okay.
