Footwork to land the straight right: trigger step & hip switch

“Why do you move your feet when you punch? Some guy on the internet told me not to do that!” A common question I am asked about my striking by those unfamiliar with Russian style footwork for the straight right. If you’re wondering why I’m not calling the straight right a “cross” here’s your answer: • Right Cross vs Straigh...
This video is all about a couple of the highest percentage footwork patterns I could ever teach you to increase your reach and land your straight right hand and your one two combo much more often for boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and MMA fighting.

Ramsey , could you do a video on some boxing techniques that are popular in the sport but don't translate well into MMA (atleast not without heavy modification) .

The TV host with Ali was the famous Howard Cosell. He’s probably still the most famous sports announcer in history. He was active from the 60s into the 80s.

So funny seeing this, Xingyiquan taught me the falling step movement for striking. But kickboxing taught me how to use it.

In my school of Xingyiquan, we call this trigger step 半步 (Ban Bu, half step). It's good stuff. I have blown a few minds of my kung-fu friends when I explain why it's useful, exactly the same way you're showing here. Good stuff!

Been waiting for this video impatiently! Thanks for answering our Qs and breaking it down. The step is very deceptive, and seemingly counterintuitive at first glance!

Ramsey great insight I just realized I only do that half the time. We have a similar thing in tennis when we hit the ball. From ready we take a small step towards the ball, you can see Federer do it to perfection. Great vid.

Ramsey I revisited this video to see what you actually did here. How you move sir to box is my most favorite to watch. It is way different than the style the dude down the road knows and showed me. Another youtuber calls it the true boxers stance. Thanks as always sir.
