This footage released by the 28th Separate Mechanised Brigade reportedly shows a tense firefight between Ukrainian and Russian forces in a unknown location.
Ukrainian troops can be seen firing rifles from a trench position in the wooded area.
This footage has not been verified by The Sun.

Less a firefight than a recon operation. It appeared the bodycam soldier was covering the scout who ran forward to find enemy positions and report their location to artillery and drone operators.

I feel so proud that our Afghanistan American veterans have chosen to fight freely over in Ukraine so they feel like they still have some worth. My cousin who's served in Afghanistan two times and was honorably discharged, is now fighting in Ukraine. He gets to make some phones once in a GREAT while but he has told me he is happy fighting for freedom and has a sense of worth again instead of sitting at home.

For those talking about “wasting ammunition” - ammo stocks can be replenished fairly easily, the same cannot be said for soldiers. And recon by fire has been a thing since WW2.

They are firing in the enemies general direction to win over fire superiority. The enemy cannot assault the defenders if they do not have fire superiority (as they won't be able to manoeuver under effective fire), firing in their general direction causes them to stay disorganised and confused. Basically, its suppressing fire.

Might be a semi-reconaissance mission or just draining the forces. If this happened behind enemy back it really makes enemy reconsider their reason for being there.

Most likely. The amount of "rifle grenades" they shot makes me think they had a spotter (in this case a drone) so they knew where the first hit went and then adjusted fire accordingly.

They have drone surveilance as you can see from the footage. They have limited manpower and are doing small probing attacks. They have a general idea of the enemies position and how many there are before they attack. You can see they prepare the vogs before assaulting the position and then provide cover and hit the position with the grenades and RPG's. They end up still receiving contact after their initial assault so they bound back and leave. The front line is vast and forrested so it makes sense to lay down covering fire for your exfil. The UA forces seem to have a lot of different SOF teams with their own styles of engagement. Take this all with a huge grain of salt, i'm just someone on the internet with minimal experience.

There's rarely a target in sight in any war - both sides are trained to fire from cover. It's amazing that we ever see any Russians returning fire at all, in spite of their inept cannon-fodder tactics.

The only winners in this situation are the manufacturers of weapons and ammunition.
Well since I’m not privy to the drones eye view from a command center, nor do I know what bunker they’re shooting at, how many enemy combatants are involved, where they are, what the UA soldiers are saying to eachother, and what tf they are trying to do, this makes no sense. But I’m not a military person. Can someone explain?
So the goal of the mission was just to randomly shot all the amos in trees and then go back home.
Aimlessly shooting is crazy.
