In this episode, Tianran He and Eva May are in Quanzhou, the ancient starting point of the Maritime Silk Road. From its covered arcades and Roman columns to its Southeast Asian vibe, our hosts discover that Quanzhou truly is a melting pot of world cultures. Then there's the food: From the local noodle porridge that utilizes Silk Road spices, to fried vinegar pork and a dessert made from a special algae, there's plenty of unique dishes to try here. Over a cup of oolong, our hosts will discover how Quanzhou's tea changed the world, and how trade with Arab civilizations influenced a local fishing village. So, join us in Quanzhou, a city that UNESCO designated as an "Emporium of the World"!

What a wonderful show talking about China today. I am little shocked by the number of views to this program. This show is so much better than those anti-China programs created by anti-China KZreadrs.

Cityscape in Quanzhou is similar in several SEA towns, the low rise eclectic shops, signage and shopfronts...the ramshackle parts are all quite similar.

Not minnan but a few words I can understand. My ancestors are from Amoy area, I believe Xiamen now. I must go back to visit in the next few years. The floral hairdo looks great n I would like to be invited to a wedding dinner to enjoy the food. The fried oyster is what I am used to, not like present day in Malaysia, with eggs instead of flour or rice porridge.

26:15 Fujian's oyster omellete. Every city has its own type but if you are Hokchew (Foochow) or Hokkien (other non-Foochow), this is THE dish of the province. First time seeing Quanzhou style (Or Chian). Uses lots of scallion.

My long departed grandma used to tell me (in Hokkien) if people asked you which part of China is your Hokkien from, tell them it's "A-mun" i. e. Amoy. I understand Amoy is also know by another name? I'm in the UK now and have never been to China proper - went to Taiwan twice and stopped over in Hong Kong in transit.
