I wish I could go back in time, to the early late 70s/early 80s when hardcore was just beginning and show them this video. Show them how their art would be turned into the exact thing they reviled; background music for the bourgeois, casually interested masses of consumer culture. That the spiritual successors of the same people that used to beat them up for looking different would bob their heads along to their music at an MTV party. God help us. God help us all.

I have always been flabbergasted by Serj's ability to invent new tonal patterns and melodic phrasing that can be applied to almost any style of music, regardless of the accepted norms for that style. When he applies that talent to music that is so integral to his deepest core beliefs, whether it's his lyrics, or those of the artists that have come before, or alongside him in his journey through creative forms of expression and reflection, he creates something so undeniably original. His imprint is phenomenal. I would love to know if Jello, or any of the other DK boys have seen this, and how this made them feel. It was shivers for me.

Bad Brains’ singer is exactly the same way. His soft spoken voice is nothing like his high-energy, aggressive punk rock vocalist voice.
The VMA staff talking to the audience before the band plays the song: "Listen up, here's what we need you to do for this song. You, pump your fist in the air the entire song. You over there, wag your finger to the beat. You sir, do the classic devil horns. Ladies, just pretend the Foo Fighters are playing Everlong and dance as you would for that song. Just remember, don't try to pay attention to the lyrics that Serj is singing. If there's anything between your ears, you may be offended. Then cheer wildly at the end like you knew what was going on! Got it? Good!"

***** The song does have legit meaning to it but I don't know enough about Serj to confirm that he feels so. Its not enough to say they words, you also need to have the beliefs and morals as well such as Jello does. Serj can rock a top hat quite nicely though.
Dead kennedys , had the pleasure of seeing them , damn good cover and chose right singer for the job 👍👍👍
Thanks, Taylor! Rest in Peace.
