Following - Christopher Nolan Begins | Video Essay

Ойын-сауық

Christopher Nolan's first film Following released in 1998, and while the director's style has evolved with bigger IMAX blockbusters, there are many themes, auteur traits and filmmaking techniques which relate to his more recent films such as Memento, The Dark Knight & Inception. In this film analysis, I discuss Christopher Nolan's Auteur filmmaking style, giving you my reaction to Following and the director's traditional themes. This marks the beginning of my Christopher Nolan Marathon on the road to TENET, which includes video essays on all of the director's filmography.

First Nolan Movie I watched was Insomnia, then Memento and then Following. By this time I could tell, this man can do no wrong. Of course Following was a Low-Budget-Movie, but you could see what's to come. I loved it, 9 out of 10.

Tom Hahnl very much aligned with my thoughts. He set in stone his filmmaking style and showed just how much passion he has for the medium. Memento up next 😀

I hope I can see TENET asap, but isn't it better to replace it at the date from WW84, and WW84 at the date from Dune, and Dune next year, so TENET definetely will win al the prices? Please share your thought with me.

This is something I said in one of my previous videos and I think if worse comes to worse they'll probably take this approach. However, the way things are looking I think they will end up releasing the film on July 17. Of course things may change. What I do appreciate is that Nolan has actually put his film on the line to try and get audiences back into theatres otherwise the industry will continue to lose money from films that were going to release months ago. Really we'll just have to see at this point man. But like you I think July and August are the main options for the film to release at this current point.

¡Great video Cortex Videos! Thanks for making this Christopher Nolan marathon series. I watched the movie 2 weeks ago so I don't remember much but I LOVED the non-linear story telling. Great work Cortex Videos

6:02 Nolan got it from his mentor Kubrick who also never appeared without a coat, at least.

I remember having really enjoyed Following when I saw it like last year or something, but seeing your video gave me a bit of a refresh and reminded me how talented Nolan was even at his earliest work. I really think he has a filmography that makes sense in itself by its evolution, his vison's and the recurrent theme is obsessed with. Can't wait to see Memento video, keep on

100% agree. He's a perfect example of how to build a film-making career through genre film making. Very excited to be discussing Memento Milo 😀.

This and Insomnia are the only two films of his that I don't love, but this is still pretty solid and a good indicator of what was to come for him.

Having re-watched insomnia the other day I do agree that it’s possibly his weakest film. Saying that his weakest film is still a great film in my eyes. But Yh I would agree on these two being at the bottom and yet they still outline his approach to cinema very well.

@@CortexVideos Nice. I recently did a Nolan ranking myself, and I drew comparisons between the theme of memory in Memento and Blade Runner which is a film that's a favorite of his. The former and The Dark Knight Rises are my top two films from him (can be a controversial opinion among many but I stand by it).

Hello Cortex great job on anyasiys Nolan's First film Following defiantly think this movie is very good it's has something that couple Nolan films don't have often an atmosphere Following totally has that plus quick interest background stuffs in film there was posters in main character apartment include Reservoir Dogs (1992), Casablanca (1942), Sunset Blvd. (1950), The Shining (1980), and Marilyn Monroe. Anyway excited for to talk about Memento soon good luck.

I've been watching this Nolan series in reverse including th Tenet videos (no pun intended). Since most of Nolan's films delve around the filmmaking experience, I feel like this movie is about how Nolan is learning to be an artist, stealing from the greats in order to show people what they have been missing in movies... Great video, like all the others, it's going into my Nolan list: kzread.info/head/PL3BLo3fskWRI5S5JGyvjDhKn__KO-q9OL Thanx!!!
