    Man, you have no idea how much I have struggled to find good informative content about this stuff. What an absolute gold mine of info. Sure, might be "boring" stuff, but it still is incredibly important to learn for anybody working professionally as a 3D artist. You deserve more likes and views. Thank you so much!

    Good to see a fellow 3D artist discussing this as it is not talked about (enough) on KZread it seems. I've been using a tool called 'Post Haste' for creating the folder structures, instead of doing this manually. It allows you to set up your own templates of folder hierarchies, which can be created on a per project basis at the click of a button. It's freely available from Digital Rebellion. Pretty awesome and quite a time saver.

    This is something I always wanted to know, I usually would make things organized by creating several folders but always wondered how big companies and studios create a file structure thank you this is very helpful 🙌

    A good organization and backing up f*ckin' everything is essential. I have almost the same folder structure except some additional folders like "AE" for animations, "2D" for when I have to create some textures/logos etc. (in there I store my .ai and .psd files) and a "Post" folder for Davinci/Photoshop/Affinity etc. since I don't use the slow Blender compositor.

    Thank you Damian, helped a lot. I was struggling with the order in my blender files all the time. Simple but effective. If you can't do the little things right, you will never do the big things right (quote by Admiral William H. McRaven)

    I really wish I used this structure 10 years ago. 5+ years back basically is non existent sadly. I lost many files back in the day. Alone by swaping harddrives and PCs and stuff. I used to make music when i was like 16 and i basically got 0 of these files.

    I am so happy that when you save Blender gives you the little Plus next to the Filename, otherwise my structure would be waay messier 😅 The topic of organizing projects isn't exciting but its something you should establish as early as possible, thanks for sharing your approach. Also very good tips in the comments! I would also love to see someday how you organize INside the .blend files, since the Asset Browser and collection naming conventions can make your life easier, but I am still not consistent with that.

    What if instead of 03_Out Folder in the template you place 99_Out, so you can have 03_ 04_ 05_ 98_ folders and the out folder would be last

    what is a linked file, according to the type of work you do?

  • @DamianMathew

    @DamianMathew

    Жыл бұрын

    for example if i animate the same product with different environments - I will use one file per environment. But there is no reason to duplicate the product especially if i change something on it, I will have to do it per file. Thats where I link. I will link the product. so its the same model on all files and i change it once and it changes on all.

    I like the way you sort files, but your system has the same problems that I'm trying to avoid. For example, if you often use an HDRI image, you always have to duplicate it and this increases disk space usage, the same goes for textures like wood, clothing... Have you found a way to bring them together?
