tailwinds-media and ClipWings.com presents: "Mikael Carlson and his Fokker DR.I.
Mikael Carlson performs his Fokker DR.1 at Airclassics Gelnhausen (Germany). It was the first time, this magnificent DR.I could be seen on German skies.
Mikael told us, he'd like to fly the Fokker to the limits - and that's what he did. He performed a stunning display with loops, turns and other assorted maneuvers, showing the audience what the Fokker was - and still is - able to perform. Almost like a real WW1 ace.
Mikaels Fokker is a complete replica of a DR.1, powered by an original WWI Le Rhône rotary engine (110 hp) and is built with lots attention to detail.
This movie contains air-to-air and onboard footage (from different camera-angles) as well. A simulated dogfight with an Udet Flamingo was also part of the airshow and could also be seen out of the view of both pilots. So take a seat next to Mikael Carlson and step into the world of his "Flying Machines".
Thanks to Mikael, his wife Gunilla and his team for some really nice days and their support for the movie. Also big thanks to Uli Spielmann, Chief-Organizer of the Airclassics Gelnhausen for his good work and again, Armin Iffland for flying the cameraship.
Enjoy!
Alex

By "Kiste", he didn't mean a crate. It's a colloquial word for describing a vehicle.
Wow, great filming! It made me feel like I was almost flying along with the pilot. The DR-1 has always been my favorite plane design; if I ever hit the lottery, there's going to be a DR-1 parked in the barn. It was amazed at how quickly it managed to get airborne from just sitting in idle, impressive. The handling looked like it could turn on a dime. From what I've read about the DR-1, it wasn't the fastest plane but it had superior maneuverability in the hands of an accomplished pilot. Beautiful plane, great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for all kind comments to our movie! Today, we published lots of raw and unedited footage of our movie (taken air-to-air and by the onboard cams) to serve and to share with all fans of historic aviation. We put the whole footage into three separate clips, because it was lots of stuff. So take a step back in time, take your seat next to Mikael Carlson and listen to the sound of flying the Fokker DR.I. Part three shows the unedited and uncut footage of the air-to-air session, taken from out of the open door of a Dornier DO27 and in close formation to this stunning Triplane. Enjoy and blue skies, Alex
Wow simply beautiful. Thanks for posting.
Amazing it's not enough to your video. Great work & film take!!!. A golden era, when gentlemens go against gentlemen. 1000 thumbs up.
One of two WWI fighters that everyone knows (along with the Camel). What a beautiful replica. Almost no takeoff roll, too. Wow. Thanks for sharing.
A beautiful air display of the wonderful Fokker DR1 - It was as if you were in the plane with the pilot - looking not only at the scenery but the other wonderful aircraft too ! Thanks for sharing - SB - British Isles
I wish I can fly one of those sometime, that's definitely I'm my bucket list!
Great footage of an iconic airplane! Going to war is scary enough, to do it with a technology that was still in its infancy required a whole other level of courage. I tip my hat to the young men who flew combat in WW1, no matter what nation they fought for...
Thank you!
Fantastic!
Beautiful video of the Fokker dr1 triplanes !
These aircraft are true works of art the sound of the engine starting is music to my ears
So etwas sieht man nicht alle Tage, gute Arbeit! Mir hat's sehr gefallen
These aircraft were beautiful!! I have to hand it to the men that flew these kites. Stunning!!
Brave guys to fly those.

Fully agree with you. The music's not out of context at all... But let us hear the REAL music!!! That gorgeous engine emits a sound that I would compare to that of a mermaid. I get almost hypnotized by such a beautiful sound

I feel as if the music just a few seconds after the beginning was too.....well, too childish for a video like this. So I agree with you both.
Geez.. What a utterly claustrophobic flying coffin.
I would have enjoyed hearing more of the engine as opposed to the piped in music.

Thanks a lot 'tailwinds'!
Looks like a real rotary engine too. The DR 1 was always my favorite WW 1 airplane.

It's a real 9-cylinder Le Rhône 110 hp rotary. Have a look at Mikael's homepage for more information about His aeroplanes: www.aerodrome.se/ Sincerely Mats Walve
Was it windy or is it the engine torque causing all those adjustments? That’s amazing piloting either way.
A HUGE THANKS to Mikael Carlson for keeping this baby alive. THIS is what a REAL aircraft should be. No computers needed to fly it, just bravery (idiocy) and genuine flying skill.
Can the soundtrack be found or bought online? My daughter loves this movie and I'd like to play pure music, with no rotary sound, to calm her down when distressed :). I'd appreciate any help in finding it.

+Wiktor Zelazny Hi Wiktor, yes, this is a commercial soundtrack I used for this video. It is called "Wartime spirit" and you may buy it on neosunds.com :-)
This is the purest form of flying
It's a lot like a Tesla, where it's so silent you can't even tell it's running.
Wow she's fast!
Are the machine guns timed with the propeller? Can this guns fire rounds? Danke!
Really an awesome plane. Want to see a great movie watch the blue max
Beautiful aeroplane

What was the powerplant? Le Rhone or Oberrousel?
I want one
Rhinebeck, NY?
Bloody music!
Herrliches Flugzeug!!!!
oooohhhhh shuuutttttttttttttt .... that's great .....
WUNDERBAR!!!
why would they make the engine turn? that costs a lot of power that could be used to actually propell the aircraft...

It was done primarily for cooling. Another reason for their popularity was that rotary engines had very good power-to-weight ratios compared to water-cooled engines. There's a well detailed article on the subject here...
Och nööööö.... warum die Musik!?
Nice, but I wanted to listen the engine.
I wish people would NOT put music on these videos !!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the final movie made for a DVD that's why it contains music. For all who like to listen to the pure engine sound, I've uploaded all raw footage, including air-to-air and onboard footage with Michael at the stick. Enjoy: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4eY3JWrfampY7Q.html
Мама, я пикирую!
One thing theres no red
Where was the dogfight?
It's a real 9-cylinder Le Rhône 110 hp rotary. Have a look at Mikael's homepage for more information about His aeroplanes: www.aerodrome.se/ It's also a reproduction meaning it is "100 percent authentic" according do Mikael Carlson. See interview on kzread.info/dash/bejne/enmW3LqTYMeciKQ.html Sincerely Mats Walve
The aircrafts to shiny and to much polished..😂😂😂
Terrible music. Why spoil it with music like that.
Schrecklich Muzak.
What annoying music
