FOCUS ST BUILT ENGINE SWAP

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The time has finally come! We have been preparing for this moment for a very long time. It all started almost 2 years ago when Ben and Trey drove the ST up to San Francisco and picked up the engine. Now all of the meticulous work that has been put into this engine will be put to the test for the first time. If you have been following the build since the beginning, you would know how much this means to Trey. It is literally a dream come true and we thank each and every single one of you that has followed the build and seen how much work has gone into making this dream a reality. We hope you have enjoyed this engine build process and we hope you can learn something from it as well.

    game changer being able to remove the engine from the front..and not have to lift over the frame or drop it below (not all of us have lifts). I run the BNR3071, XDi hpfp, RS injectors, and am likely around the 430whp mark.. the ringlands failed on cylinder 1 recently after about 10k miles on the big turbo set up.. i have good PCV/OCC set up, change oil regularly, use Mobil 1 Synthetics, etc... these engines just werent meant for that kind of power. Going with a full Manley rod/piston set up so hopefully I can up it to 500whp (with XDi injectors) and get a lot more miles out of it this time!

    My break in on my built speed 3 was completely different. Break in oil for 5 min at idle. Then first 100 miles on break in oil at 10 psi. Then to 500 miles at 15 psi. Finally went to synthetic at 1k but ran varying rpm under load the whole time. Black stone lab said oil was perfect compression over 50k has stayed at 200 psi on all 4 at 500hp. No perfect way but definitely different

    Hey VC did you removed the Balance Shaft from the engine and is there any noticeable vibration at all? What HP and TQ gains did you get with the new engine? Great vlog man!

  • @tbr.performance

    @tbr.performance

    4 жыл бұрын

    Angelo Lopezcua The response from the engine is unreal without the balance shaft. No extra vibrations at all, granted I’m still on stock mounts. Well worth the hassle if you do it in the car. The lighter rotational assembly contributes to that as well. We’ll be putting her on the dyno pretty soon so we’ll see what numbers we get but the main focus is to get her running efficiently and have the power when I want it.

    If ur worried about piston noise already, ya know forged pistons arent gonna last anywhere near as long as a set stock pistons. Did you do 4032 or 2816? Other question so have you done a compression test since adding mileage? One thing i got from my tuner with building my ms6 was i did compression tests, starting at 500,2500, 5000, 10000, 1300,17500 etc...basically every oil i do one now on my focus st also. Its a good way to monitor every thing is still working correctly cause if you monitor it like that the first time you notice a 10 or more psi difference outta nowhere especially a difference 10% difference from the rest of the cylinders you can get it checked immediately before you go and score the shit out of your chambers.

  • @tbr.performance

    @tbr.performance

    4 жыл бұрын

    Pumpkinspicelatte 17 4032 mahle pistons were used. I’ll be doing an update video including a compression test and in car footage. The engine is officially broken in now so next step will be the dyno. The engine sounds very healthy and the pistons only make noise when it’s been super cold but once it gets up to temp all the noises go away. I’m super excited to see what she can do!

    Hey man I was looking for some advice on my Range Rover Evoque build. My car shares the same engine as the Ford Focus ST (stock) and I had some ideas on what I wanted to make my build as powerful and effective as possible but I'm concerned with reliability. I currently have a decent enough exhaust system on the car, the rest stock atm. My plan so far was to have the big turbo system installed with the larger turbo option. This is so I can then use an electric supercharger (TorqAmp) to delete the turbo lag issue so I could realistically have the best of both worlds when it comes to having a bigger turbo. I also wanted to do cams for added power since it's fairly inexpensive when considering $ to power ratio. End of the day get a tuner to finish out all the inputs and components when it comes to tuning to keep it under control. With all these components a cold air intake as well as upgraded air filters are necessary but I'm not sure what else to consider after I'm there. I'm looking for more input and advice since I dont have much experience working with this engine and am fairly new to engine work. Let me know what you think, thanks 👌

  • @tbr.performance

    @tbr.performance

    4 жыл бұрын

    Brandon Durand I would recommend upgrading the turbo if you want more power for the top end. The stock turbo is not fitted for big power especially if you’re gonna be doing head work. As far as the electric supercharger, I wouldn’t even bother. The stock turbo is very responsive and even if you get a bigger turbo like a 2868r, the spool time isn’t bad at all. The only way to get rid of turbo lag is to use nitrous and recirculating the charge air back into the intake. Idk what the long term plans are for you but using the stock turbo and an e85 blend, you’ll only ever see maybe low 300’s for horsepower and it will all be at the beginning of the power curve.
