Jackie and Shadow are letting go and continue their incubation withdrawal process. Jackie stopped incubating for the most part while Shadow still sits on the eggs. They have been leaving the nest seemingly unattended for longer and longer periods of time.

It is unlikely that the eggs will hatch at this point. We have no way of knowing why. It could be environmental, such as temperatures, humidity percentages, oxygen levels at high altitude, etc. It could be biological with something just being off at the time the eggs were created. It is very unlikely that either Jackie or Shadow are infertile since they have already had 2 sets of chicks together - in 2019 and 2022.
When eggs don’t hatch, Jackie and Shadow may start withdrawing from incubation eventually (they usually over incubate for several weeks, details can be found in our Activity Log). Withdrawal is always a process and it happens gradually with longer and longer breaks. Shadow may be a little bit more stubborn than Jackie (this is something we have observed in the past). Left unattended, the eggs may eventually be scavenged by ravens or other animals. The nest cameras are live 24/7/366 weather and maintenance permitting.

Jackie and Shadow steal my heart every time I watch them. ❤
So Jackie had to bring her own fish to the nest. At least we know she is quite capable of fishing for herself. She is clearly wanting to move on and showing Shadow that it is time for him to do the same. He clearly isn't ready to do that but I think he is getting there.
After all the sushi Shadow has brought for Jackie, that she wouldn't share her catch was sad. Trying to make him hungry so he'll neglect the unviable eggs. Well… he went and brought his own lunch back this afternoon. Good for you, Shadow! Fill that crop!

Female birds of many species are fed as a part of courtship. It would be highly unusual to see a female bird bring food for a male.

I don't think that Shadow is feeling "The Love" here. I don't blame him for flying off. ~ What is Jackie doing? Digging a tunnel? ~ Guess that Shadow got his own lunch. ~ Love the highlights!
I was hoping she’d save him a little. Her digging that whole was interesting. I love watching them so much❤tfs

I am looking forward to the next chapter for these two. It should be interesting and amazing, and hopefully a blessing to reward them for all their hard work and dedication.

Thank you! Sometimes some of the comments seem to be expecting them to think/act like humans, but they are just behaving like wild birds. Seen a lot of comments calling her 'selfish' and 'cold.' 😐

@@dewbow134 couldn’t have said it better myself. I know everyone cares, but along with enjoying these beautiful eagles there’s also a lot of learning to be done-if one is open to it. I know I have learned so much over the past few years watching these two, and although I’d love to see another eaglet born to them, I know they will continue on doing what they do which you clearly have a grasp of. @coexist64 - hello my dear friend. I just researched and found this: According to scientists, birds have the right equipment for emotion. They have a limbic system, a specialized portion of the brain necessary for true emotional behavior, found only in other higher vertebrates - humans and mammals. I knew in my mind and heart they had feelings but so many people were saying their behavior was lol hormones and instincts. I definitely believe all living things have emotions they’re just not human emotions! I hope your day is going well! I am starting to feel improvement! Yahoo! I see shadow starting to follow in Jackie’s talon steps! I love seeing how much they’re mating and bonding! Just beautiful!! Happy Thursday! 🥰🦅🦅❤️❤️

Lots of other birds are like that too, normal for the males to bring food to the females instead of the other way around

It’s interesting how the roles have reversed. Jackie was mostly on the best while Shadow was out and about. Now he’s hanging on while Jackie is bringing the sticks and fish while living the free life. Hope Shadow doesn’t stay like this for long.
I guess Jackie is just more pragmatic than Shadow. Poor Shadow, he does so want to be a Dad again. Anyway, not to share, after all Shadow has done for her was kind of cold.
