I know Hollywood likes to dub over bald eagles with hawk sounds, but I think Jackie’s pipes could give the hawk call a run for it’s money.

Uh- you got it backwards, Shadow was on cam 1 this entire video (so he was making the sounds) and Jackie was on cam 2, fighting off the intruder.

Beautiful eagles, but someday also could be subadult intruders! Hmmmm. I think my teenage kids could have been described as subadult intruders. Shoulda (lovingly) escorted them out of the area. Actually, I think I did! lol lol

BIG Mama ain't having none of that around her baby, Shadow is seriously upset he couldn't leave the nest but he knew Jackie got that.

Call me crazy but I too think it was Spirit...she flew right to Jackie and they sat there together when she flew up to the branch near Jackie...I don't think Jackie would have allowed that unless she knew it was her. ❤ Sure do miss the little ankle biter😊

That was the scariest 8 minutes I’ve heard. I feared for Jackie’s safety & the look of concern & wonder from Shadow was unnerving, praying for their safety. So grateful for the cams & ops for always being there & showing the happenings. I’ll sleep better tonight knowing they’re ok.

I doubt that they would. As the mods have stated so many times, the sub adult would be seen as an intruder and chased out of the area, even if it was Spirit.

Amazing video Cali! I appreciate your extra effort where you sync'd the action from both cameras! I have 2 monitor's and play one camera on each. There are times when I wished that my head swiveled like J & S. This pair has so much personality it almost seemed like Shadow was asking Jackie if she was okay and she filled him in on the details. FOBBV mod's are the best!

That was some great camera work, showing what couldn't be seen from the nest. I believe Shadow was understandably frustrated because he couldn't see and couldn't leave his post on the nest to go help his beloved Lady. I wonder if that was the same subadult who had the nerve to roost in Simba's RT. Thanks for sharing this excitement with us, Cali, great video.

Hmmmm...my very thought. No fear leads me to think it could be baby girl Spirit. She always was a fierce gal, from the same mold she was born from in Mama Jackie. Although this is just a guess, it may be her. Either way, that "intruder" certainly KNOWS that tree!😮❤

The clarity of the second camera after the red flash at 3:25 is amazing! I could actually see all 3 eagles, whereas I usually can't quite make out where the nest actually is. Couldn't miss the nest this time with Shadow's head bobbing up and down while Jackie chased off the intruder! Thank you for sharing this awesome video.

In Florida the eagles and osprey have adapted as they Have no problem with humans.Ive walked within 20ft of a red tailed hawk walking my dog and the sandhill Crane's walk Right threw our yard.

Wonder if that was Spirit? Lol These two make a great team to guard their babies! This nest and these two were my first adventure into watching eagles. Spirit was my first baby to watch and fledge! So I have a special place in my heart for Jackie, Shadow and Spirit! 🦅♥️🦅 This juvie felt mighty comfortable coming to nest and approaching Jackie. Almost positive it was Spirit…at least I want to believe that. 😃

A question that I've seen a lot and that I also would love an answer for (to the best of our knowledge of course) is whether or not eagle parents can "recognize" their own offspring when they molt/become adults...do they have a way of sensing this? And vice-versa? Or do they all just see each other as potential threats to territory and food?

I noticed on cam2 TS 17:47:42, a large bird (BAEA?) flying low right to left. This was just minutes before the kerfuffle.

The intruder was a juvenile Bald Eagle.

Jackie looks like she had a big meal maybe the juvenile was trying to steal the food and that is how it wound up in their territory.

That's what I think. Eagles perch and observe, and young eagles are looking to steal a meal until their hunting skills are honed. That level of boldness makes me think it was driven by hunger, as it is likely too young to look for a territory and nest. Regardless, fierce Jackie took care of business in flushing it out of the basement and following it to escort it out of the territory, while Shadow stayed on the eggs just as he should do. Great teamwork!

It seems to be night time or evening, and this eagle should be enjoying privacy in her nest but rather I see light shining on her so that her neck is seen. Should not be that a the night camera does shine light on her? Or is it light post?

I'd like to know what kind of night light is used. It's not infrared, I don't think, but it would seem to blind the birds at night and make them more vulnerable to attack.

Generally, adults will drive all predators away during the nesting season, including their offspring.
