FNS9 to dethrone the Glock?

    Great review! But if I may add a few more features the Fn has over the glock. 1.Front serrations 2. Beveled magwell. 3. Metal sights and rear is V notched. 4. Stainless steel slide. 5. 40 to 60 bucks cheaper. 6. Made in the USA. 7. Option of a manual safety or not. Out of the box the Fn fns is a loaded with so many more features than a Glock. Everyone always talks about how glock has such a huge aftermarket and that's all cool. But not everyone has the money to do that. The Fn fns is an amazing gun from a extremely reputable and reliable company. Love mine!

    I have the FNS-9C and love it. Some don't like the beveled rear sights. Well it's so it don't get hooked on anything. Yet if you look the front sight sets back just a little and can be used to rack. As if anyone in that kind of situation is going to do that in a panic. Also It's been one year and most retailers carry not only Mags, but all kinds of holsters. I have a molded Carbon Fiber and Blue Kydex Inside Waistband holster.

    Good review. I liked my FNS-9 far more than any of the nineteen Glocks that I have owned or been issued. I thought I'd keep it forever, until I fired a friend's Springfield XD MOD 2.0 9mm 4" Duty Model. The FNS went and I bought a Mod 2.0. It is a joy to shoot just like all of my Springfields. Nothing at all wrong with the FNS-9 though. If I had a bigger budget I would have kept it for sure.

    Glock would have to hold the throne first. Only "throne" Glock has is that they are literally given away to police and military to keep them in the spotlight. Driving their prices far higher than they should be for the materials in it and the features (or lack thereof). Will a Glock work when you need it? Yes! but it's not worth $500+ When Smith and Wesson made the same gun for $300.

    I agree totally,I do own a GLOCK and must say there are much better guns out there for the money, then having to do all the modifications to bring it up to par your looking at close to $800-1000, i just dont see the value in the glock,not to mention their ugly,lol. people will go and put night sights,new barrel/threaded, all the little extended gadgets/releases,And lets not forget the most important The TRIGGER! FN, Beretta,HK,CZ,and of course the S&W MP 2.0 is the best for the money of all if cost is the factor

    You didn't mention the grip angle is superior on the FN. In my opinion, the Glock grip angle is angled back to much, and the shooter must compensate for the grip angle when shooting. Another deficiency of the Glock is a design flaw where the middle finger room under the trigger guard either cramps the middle finger or forces the lower 3 fingers to not sit correctly in the finger grooves. Many people with thick fingers open up the area under the Glock trigger guard with a Dremmel tool sanding barrel to allow for more middle finger room and some sand off the grip bumps altogether to make it straight like the FN grip design. The FN has no finger cramping issue.

    Picked up an FNS-9 w/ambi safety recently. Since your video, the 509 has come out but the manual safety is not offered. The trigger is not bad out of the box, but am installing a APEX trigger and Holosun HE507c - a project gun. I am not a Glock fan for most of the reasons cited in your video.

    That's a good video, when you compare the two, you can't help but think with all the generations of Glocks, why they haven't addressed the issues that are common with them, steel sights and guide rod, oversized trigger guard, built in beaver tail ( for those that don't want to add to the grip), trigger that has a flat face And a better more usable undercut .

    fns9 for me! owned both, fns comes in a cut above on quality and the controls are just right IMHO. Mag drops are effortless with zero manipulation to reach mag release. factory sights are much better as well....Nice u groove rear and big dot front sight for super fast target acquisition. ya you can't rack the slide off the rear sight oh well there are other ways around that. Good comparison and both are outstanding pistols!

    The Glock pistol was not around in the 1970's. Gaston got the idea in 1980, he filed for a patent in 1981, he received his first contract in 1982 from the Austrian minister of defense. I've had quite a few glocks and two FNS pistols. All of my Glocks had less sight disruption than my FN pistols. I don't know why people care about smoothness or grittiness. The only the I care about is 1) a crisp break, and 2) that sight is still when I depress the trigger. I prefer a shorter reset, but it's something I can train around. Neither of my FNs could pull as as well as my Glocks. Consistently I would get some flutter in dry practice that throws shots more while shooting. It wasn't a big difference, but it was noticeable in my hands. Nothing else matters trigger-wise in my opinion. FN is a great pistol, if I could have pulled the trigger as well as a Glock after six months I might have jumped ship, but the other obstacle is the size. The pistol is too big and is not comparable to the Glock 19 in my opinion. FN should have made a 15 rounder. Similarly, the compact, while very nice, was not as concealable or me as my Glock 26. If they had G19 and G26-sized FN pistols, they may have had more market support and Glock could have been in trouble.

  • @tyme4chaim
    @tyme4chaim5 жыл бұрын

    Nobody doesn't like the FNS, so what's so surprising? I will say about that trigger, the FN-S has a long, smooth, and crisp at the break pack, but the reset is way longer than on my Glock 30s... although if you don't like your Glock trigger, you have numerous after market choices available compared to the limited aftermarket options at this point availability is not comparable with regard to options available for these two brands...

  • @chancecarlton8403

    My first pistol was a FNP40. The FNS is a much better pistol with mirror image controls and the consistent trigger vs da/sa of the FNP. They are nicely made but there is zero aftermarket support. That sole fact keeps Glock in the top spot. Any half respected gun shop carries glock mags and holsters. That is why I switched to glock for my carry gun. That and they got the size and capacity right imo. Good comparison vid.

    You CAN shoot lead projectiles out of Glock barrels, Glock wants to avoid warranty issues caused by double powder drop issues in some reloads. I clean my handguns and rifles after every use, so no lead build-up issues for me. I have shot 100,000 reloads through my 7 seven different Glock models (only 3 'double drop' events and no disasters). The FNS-9 with full size grip, has a 'long slide' variant and this 'short slide', same as Colt 1911 - Commander pistols. The Glock trigger first part of the pull action is the full cocking of the striker. I carried the Browning Hi Power for most of my military career. In the easly 1980 Browning made the first subcompact DAO 9mm with a double stack mag and ONE finger below the trigger guard, for concealed SF / Agent carry; on drawing replace with 14 rnd mag for better grip - discontinued (no Internet images). // So the 'FNS9 - short slide' and Glock 19 are two different manufacturing concepts.

    You are a wise sage. I have subscribed because of this I am an old git who could not afford 350+ plus rounds of 'factory ammo' every week for eight plus years. I do not watch TV, as I like to think for my self. Instead I do relax by de-capping, resizing. cleaning and inspecting my good quality brass (Lee single stage press). Firearms, hand tools, plumbing, vehicles and our women must always be cared for correctly, cleaned regularly as your life depends on it. As each member of my team depended of me and I upon them. My SOCOM M4 was always immaculately clean straight after firing, the bolt carrier lightly oiled and ready to rock just in case some else needed to use it to defend me. It is simply a matter of honor. You present this video very well with reasonable balance - your point of honor! FN makes good firearms, in this case their grip size / common magazine philosophy does not suit me. (I would like a G19 front-beveled slide with a G26 size grip for covert carry - there is a mods like this on the Internet.) My reloads were always 17+2 mags. Thanks mate & kind regards from an Aussie, Greg.

    Great video thank you, although sitting there with the two guns pointed at your belly and then picking up the FN by the trigger made me cringe. I have a Glock but I've been buying FN pistols because I believe in the quality and they are better-looking but one of the biggest things I look for is the option of having a manual safety. I like safeties. Our military like safeties. But someone is probably going to try and tell me I'm not training enough or that I'm a wimp for wanting a safety doesn't bother me. The term "Glock Leg"came about because of people including law enforcement shooting themselves in the leg especially when holstering the gun. And our military puts safeties on their handguns mainly because the soldiers don't do enough training to become fully competent on the weapon much like most of us casual shooters. I keep the safety on in my holster but when I go into a bad area I take it off safety. If I'm done at the range I put the safety on and put it in my holster. Gives me additional peace of mind. I love the FN guns but the FNS s safety is ambidextrous but it's plastic and doesn't really click into place very hard it can actually come off in your holster. My little Smith & Wesson bodyguard has a safety that's a chunk of metal and you can feel it click in hard and won't move until you move it I just wish the FNS 9 had a more heavy-duty safety. But fantastic video proving once again I made a good choice with FN.

    FN needs to sell a couple million FNS9 pistols before anyone can say it's comparable to a Glock, much less better. I have shot the FNS9 extensively, it was a nice shooting pistol. But I have no problem hitting ping pong ball spots of paint at 10 yards with a stock G19. If you have poor shooting techniques Glock pistols will magnify your faults. I am willing to bet I can buy a G19, night sights and a decent holster for under $600.

  • @PracticalSchroeder

    @PracticalSchroeder

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Brent Young I have no problems with my Glocks, but they do amplify shooter issues. That plus the FNS being a much more heavy duty gun and fully ambidextrous makes it a better pick for shooters in my opinion. Add to that the low popularity of the FNS over the Glocks and you have new ones for sale for right at $400 at times vs the mid to low $500 range because FN is trying to break into the market. Both are very respectable guns, but let's face it 90% of shooters who would need training to run a Glock right won't seek it out, the FN is just much easier to be good with, that's why I recommend it so highly.

    Glocks are boring. Rely on the aftermarket just like the AR does. Out of box many things are better than a glock

    ILL STICK WITH THE KING - GLOCK

    My old department used the FNS. It had multiple issues and bugs that had to be worked out, to include replacement of all original issue versions with newer guns. Problems found included potential for one to go full-auto without warning upon being fired. The last one I saw, the backstrap had come undone from the frame due to chintzy and illogical design with no feasible fix noted. The FNS looks good but I would not waste my money on one. Give me a Glock any day over this.

    I think you're both full of shit. I've owned mine since their introduction, over 1500 rounds through the gun without a single issue.

    Glock is the standard for all striker fired pistol everyone copies it I own a fn 9c so how come fn is better than the glock

    The ergonomics and trigger of the FNS are better than the Glock. But, FN has all but killed off the FNS at this point, so it doesn't matter much now.

    i agree if the fns could be put in the ground for 2 and still fire 500 round then maybe it could go toe to toe wuth the glock. a glock can withstand so much punishment and i havent seen a torture test for the fns someone please do a torture test i bet the fns with break. glock all the way.

    Nothing will ever dethrone a Glock because it just works and it will eat any ammo you feed it. If I ever need to draw my weapon in a self defense case I want to know it will work and my G23 will. I like others but when it comes to self defense I will only carry my G23 so if that makes me a fan boy so be it.

    +teon39 I reserve the "fanboy" label for deserving minions haha. I carry Glock myself and don't cast judgement on those who do, but the point I was making is that in the last 10 years we've seen huge developments in striker fired pistols, the FNS, M&P, VP9, PPQ, XD and XDM etc etc. Somewhere along the way companies will enevitably find ways to improve on the very successful design of the Glock which was revolutionary....in the 80s.
