In 1974 I got my first saw; Homelite Super XL Auto. I'll say this, Years of huffing the smoke gave me a nice bit of lead levels in my blood. (I was also a mechanic through high school, after high school, and a truck mechanic between HS and college, and during college. I got doused in gasoline a few times,,,,, so I can't blame it all on the two-smoke homelite. the point is: the new machines run so much cleaner, and although I hate the government interfering with anything like saws, wood stoves, etc,,,,, A clean running, modern machine is really a pleasure. New viewer here thanks to buckin billy rays channnel mentioning you in numerous videos. 3 out of 5 of my saws are conventional carbs , purchased my first auto tune saw 6 years ago ( jonsered 2158 ) and I hated it from the first cut , had a dead spot in the throttle pickup. Gave the saw time to break in and still had a bad taste, then 6 years later picked up a 572 xp to give my jonsered 2171 a break , end result after more than 100 cord on that 572 and I will grab that saw every time I head out to the woods !

Hi Tinman Love watching all your videos thanks for sharing your knowledge. I own STIHL & Husqvarna chainsaw’s and I like both brands and have been using chainsaws for more than 20 years I have never blown a saw. The biggest problem I have seen is lack of maintenance. 1- I always have a good sharp chain 2- clean air filter after every use blow out clean with air compressor. 3- Good fresh fuel and quality 2 Stroke mix 44:1 4- I always warm the saw up before cut and let run at idle before shut down. I have never had a problem with m-tronic or auto tune on both brands of saws. Once again Love watching all your videos keep up the good work and stay safe.

I've discovered the air filters on the lower end Stihl saws aren't the greatest. Every time I clean mine, I find sawdust on the wrong side of the filter.

I've had my 550xp mk2 for quite some time now and its been great, really good power to weight ratio. Like you say though I make sure I have a sharp chain and my mix is perfect as well as good quality bar oil.

I love my 562 it's got a bunch of hours also. First couple years of its life were used for utility work cutting poles. Not easy on a saw, your always in the dirt or hitting nails. Which means your running a hurt chain or constantly swapping or sharpening. I was able to give it a better home thankfully. Thanks Tinman

I’ve got a first gen mtronic 261c and have had zero issues in the 5-6 years I’ve had it. It’s been a solid saw for firewood and brushing or fuel mod gigs at work, have used a 550xp mk2 at work with no issues. That said my go to saws will always be my 372xpg’s and my 365xtorq, just picked up a ‘96 vintage 066 for milling of a friend. Love it as well, I prefer a manual carburetor on a chainsaw.

I am on the path to learning the fine art of filing. It is amazing how often the simple things can make big differences. Ya gotta run a sharp chain!

My 2020 562 XP G is pretty amazing, and I've had no issues. It is my first Pro saw, and I'm absolutely awed by its reliability and handling. I keep it maintained and sharp and every time I run it I'm impressed. I'm a firewood getter and this is mostly a bucking saw for me, with the bucking dogs on, which I had to buy separately because I'm an East coaster.

Tim my 562xp runs great I'm just a backyard firewood bucking guy. The first husky I owned was a 455 rancher I thought it had power till I ran the 62. Great Channel 👍 👌 👍

I started with a 455 which only lasted 10 years, that died and I upgraded to a 562. Great saw.

Got a 550 XP since year 2013 here in France, it run like a charm, allways start, lot of power. They like to run on a richer mix gas/oil, like 3% min... Like you've said , they run like ported saws ! Thanks for the vids !!

I just got a 550xp mk II. And I love it. But it is my first power saw so I don't have a point of reference. But again I love it!!!. I took a 562 full wrap kit and modified the dogs and 3/4 wrap to fit the 550. What i have read online is that the MK II has had a bunch of improvements that resolve all the 1st gen issues

I have a stock 576XP not auto tune. Seems to run pretty good. Maybe some day I will have someone build it up a little. Maybe I'll send it to you to work on. Nice content as usual. Keep up the great work. Thanks

Gee has your channel grown I think you had around 300 subscribers when I joined. Discussing things with my local dealer one day I was told that no 372 x torques were ever bought to Australia by dealerships and all the saws that I have worked on or have sen have been original editions, why I don’t now why. I seem to start having trouble with some of the auto tunes when the temperature gets above 36 C or 100 F they seem to get hot and hard to start or they just stop. So getting the heat out of the saws seems to help a lot. As to why they blow up my thoughts, they are built with a measured air leak which the chip in the carby controls now what happens if you get another leak the carby tries to account for the leak and what happens when too much air get in and the carby can’t adjust for it and it burns up. With older saws you pick up on air leaks sooner before damage is done. Not every one can afford the diagnostic programs, so the next best thing is the can of brake or carby cleaner. This is only my preference, I mix my fuel at 35 to one on my bigger saws and 40 to one on the smaller ones especially in really hot weather. That’s my thoughts cheers and have good day to all

We have an Oleo Mac gsh 510 and we had a blown head gasket within a year. Fixed it and switched to Husqvarna LS+ Two stroke oil and Efco biodegradable bar oil. It now runs like a dream and starts on the 3rd pull and once warmed up it starts with a 1/4 of a pull. so pretty much what you said in the video, good fuel, good oil, clean air filter, sharp chain and a bit of common sense are what makes a saw good.

I'll take that blown up 576 off your hands for ya ;). But seriously thanks for the content. I got that Makita DCS540 muff modded and did a bottom gasket removal and she runs like a champ now! Keep up the awesome videos!

Tinman, thanks for the Autotune info. I don't own one yet but maybe someday, maybe. I'm enjoying learning how t tune, do my maintenance which includes chain sharpening and cleaning the bar groove cleaned out. That's my enjoyment next to running em. Another great vid as usual!! Your not alone with the 562 being fussy when cold. Mine has been that way since new. Nothing you can't work around though! Definitely does not like cutting in hotter than 25 degrees..... Major vapour locking when you shut down.... Can be a nightmare to get fresh cold fuel back in her...

I have a 545 mark2 and love it, run's great, the only thing is you have to keep up on cleaning them. They collect alot of debri very quickly, every time you use it, clean it!

I have 2 autotune/mtronic saws in my pile lol A MS241c and a husky 572xpw The 241 is a perfect little saw for my wife, it’s light and very powerful for a 43cc saw The 572xpw is only a 2 months old but I’m super impressed the power and throttle response in that saw!! I have been using a 572XP for about 2 years now. Even in red or black oak it needs an aggressive chain to keep it from running away; i.e. screaming RPMs and over-heating. I was warned and heeded the advice to do the auto tune initial procedure by the book. The frist day of use (90F weather) using the Husky pre-mix that came with it, it ran really hot and I added enough oil to get to 40:1 and that helped. The second day the coil died, I think it was cooked. New coil and better oil at 40:1 and sharp aggressive chain, it has been fine. The air filter on this one is great, but I don't let it get dull enough to make a lit of fines. Then again, these days I only cut my own firewood and only a couple of cords at that.

I have 390xp,576xp non autotune and top handle t540xp I purchased a week ago.Maybe I will buy 572xp and 590xp when it comes to the market some day.I'm a saw guy too😁I ran 572xp test saw and it is extremely loud saw no muffler mod,that I dont like but it is a good runner.All the new saws are downsized,like engines on a cars.Also have 555rxt brushcutter.I prefer no replacement for displacement😁 Very good channel keep up like that.

I have a 550xp gen 1 and I love that saw it really cuts for its size. I always had stihl never M ironic. 550xp is very good on fuel, you have to let it run to adjust auto tune.

Hey, hey!..I just spied that Pioneer 3071 hanging up there!..I have one I bought 25-26 years ago for $20.00..it was low-hours, but the electronic ignition was toast..well, I couldn't find an ignition(had a funky 2-piece CD system), and it was pre-internet days..I took an electronic coil from a Mac 10-10 and adapted it..although one of the coil bolt holes didn't line up, I modded it so it worked, and re-routed the plug wire...she fired up, and boy, she ran like a beast!..still have her...

My 562XP always ran hot. When it blew up I replaced the cylinder/piston with a Warhawk combo and it now starts way easier with no problem in hot weather and doesn't run hot anymore.

I have a husqvarna 555 auto tune . I believe it’s a 2014 . I bought it new . Although I have not used it commercially.. it’s just a firewood saw, and does some odd work around my property. I cut 4-5 cords per year . My 555 starts 2nd pull every time no matter how long it’s sat or how cold it is . It’s starts easy and runs crisp every time . I’m a big fan of the auto tune. Can’t complain one bit .

I have a 441 stihl m tronic and it’s been a great saw. I run a firewood business on the side and put 5 tanks a week through it. Starts better than my new 461 but it’s not broke in yet.

Had a 545 Mk1 mainly on 15” bar and then on 18”. It ran without issue all year round for 10yrs., felling and processing hardwood. It then partially seized but that was because of a slightly cracked intake manifold and I didn’t know. I had it rebuilt and it runs good but starting became a pig. After looking around, I ended up buying a 550XP Mk2. I’ve had this for 2-3yrs. Again felling and processing hardwood in all seasons with 18” bar. No problems so far. The Mk1 545 & 550 were both 4.9kg / 10.78Lbs. dry and without bar+chain. Both have now become 5.3kg / 11.66Lbs. I think that’s due to a changed anti-vib system. I reckon 15”-18” for the 550 is the sweet spot. So for larger diameter stems, I got a Stihl 500i. I’d had a Husky 576 shortlisted but the 500 won out with less vibration. Also, nobody had a 576 or 572, even though I had to wait a few months for the 500i. The one thing that stands out for me, is that the easy start of the 500i is press-hyp. It’s not an easy saw to start. Typically takes 10-12 pulls when cold and when the saw is warmed up, still takes 3-4 pulls.

I have a 550xp mark2 and this saw is monster! Cant Wait to see a Tinmonize 550.

Good review. I would guess that the auto tune is all about emission standards. Being an "older feller" I fed my family with the 288 exp, then the 394. I honestly can't imagine how a modern saw could be better. But.. I may be wrong. 💪

I seen a video from Husqvarna that he put duct tape over the air filter and the old saw wouldn't run but the new auto tune would with the same plugged filter. This doesn't mean you should run your saw with a plugged filter it's just a demo to show you that it works and can make life easier on you. I think why those 550's burnt up is because someone didn't clean and change their filters enough. With auto tune keeping the saw running with a plugged filter it would reduce the amount of fuel to the engine being a two stroke you aren't getting lube without a full dose of fuel there for the saw would run "HOT". Tinman you work on these all the time it's probably second nature to blow out your filter and check it through out the day so you may never have a problem but others may forget to do their maintenance on their tools. Glad you like the 562xp because I was considering it for a primary saw myself. It won't see the use yours would but.. I don't like junk. How to Set the AutoTune on a Husqvarna Professional Chainsaw (a great video to watch if you have one of these.)

Never owned a Husqvarna yet, I'm so invested into Stihls right now, it's Hard to justify another saw at the moment, LOL. Stihl dealer is 5 minutes from my house...and it's a HUGE advantage being able to run there and get parts.....vs....ordering online and waiting, Lol.

I'm always looking at the used market. You can find lots of deals, even on new saws. I also don't and haven't owned a husky. I did just pick up to in the box echos for a steal. There my first one's.

One of the main selling points of the old huskies is that the air filtration was superior to other saws. They could run in the burn overs post forest fire stuff without smoking them!

I copied and pasted this section of 550xp mark 2 review this is what is improved....... the main bearings have been updated along with the crank and cylinder including a new crankshaft, new piston, cylinder base gasket redesign (to reduce heat transfer), and new carby ceramic sleeves embedded in the crankcase.

Thanks for the auto tune video! I actually came across you channel a few months ago when I picked up a blown 555 and did my first saw rebuild. From my research it's very close to a 562. I got all my parts from the local husqy dealer and I asked him about a base gasket delete and muffler mod but he recommended to just keep it stock because the auto tune might not compensate for the extra flow. It seems you have had a good experience with the muff mod and I like the idea of getting some extra heat out. Do you have a video of what that muffler mod consist of?

My 550xp mkI I love it I have named mine Excalibur. I switched mine over to 3/8 and only run it with Husky fuel. It’s a fantastic ripper

I love you and your channel. Truth is there is a reason why there's autotune/Mtronic... I don't want to hear from any old codgers that have never run one but want to tell you they're junk compared to the old saws... I was one of those ignorant, arrogant, opinionated guys. Now my whole fleet is Still Mtronic! No comparison at all, run them like the factory says, end of story!

I just got a 545XP mark II that was a display model someone stole parts off of. Hasn’t seen a drop of fuel since it was run at the factory. I’ll have it running here in a week or so. It’s my first computer saw. I prefer non-strato adjustable carb saws so we’ll see how it goes.

The Autotune adjusts for conditions. I don’t know exactly what it samples though (likely air density and temp) nor do I know sample rate. However; one thing I am in the habit of doing is periodically doing a “field reset” especially if I haven’t run it in a bit or temps have changed quite a bit…. My 550xp Mk2 is particular about how I pull it.

I own a very old Husqvarna 353, a 5 year old Stihl MS 241 Mtronic and a new Husqvarna 562 XP-G Auto tune. I love my Husqvarna saws, while I regret buying the Stihl. My experience with Auto tune is positive. The machine always runs optimally regardless of wind and weather, and not least how dirty the air filter is. The 353 is my workhorse, strong, reliable with a nice bottom pull. On paper, my Stihl is as strong as the 353, but that's only on paper. Vibrations, sound, power and feel are like an old wasp with a cold. My 562 XP-G is preferably used to saw long slabs with a 36" chain, which it does excellently.

I have the opportunity to work on these fairly often at a dealership. Most of these saws that come in have fuel related problems, just like any other saw. The saw is designed to compensate air fuel mixture. When the new ethenol fuel warps and distorts the metering diaphragm and pump, the computer will try to correct the lean and starts sending additional fuel through the fuel solenoid. The part is similar to a power valve. Most saws that I see at that point run as if they have a blown power valve. Just over fuelled something serious. The problem is, the computer will run it's old settings on your new carb repair. The process is the same for repair like any other saw. Instead of grabbing a screwdriver for tuning, you gotta hook it up to the autotune program and reset it. Just like new trucks, you can't fix them at home much any more. Probably the biggest reason most guys stay away. I'm an old school fan myself. The guys that burn them usually have a tree crew in these parts. Lousy employees that are hard on Equipment they didn't buy, and the company doesn't invest in maintenance on saws. Dull chains + clogged air filters + bad Sawyers = Burned cylinder. Happens a lot here.

There's a field reset procedure. Idle for 3 minutes. Then, do a long rip cut.

I take care of my stuff. I get good service out of things that people complain about. I like the Stihl's I've worked on the Husqvarna's and start to appreciate them a little more.

I got an awesome deal on a 545 m2...it's an excellent saw. So is the 572xp. Neither one has given me any issues and they're both very impressive. I haveva 32" bar I use for big stuff with the 572 but it normally runs a 24" full comp chain and it's a beast. I use my 545 the most though, I really like it. It's got a lot of low end torque and is a screamer on the high end. Neither has given me any problems

Hi Tinman!!😀😀 You are right when you say that a dull chain will cause a saw to fail. I have never burned up a top end on any saw in almost 45 years of cutting. That is because I never ever run a saw with a dull chain. If the saw gets dull even at the beginning of the tank of gas I always stop and sharpen it. Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al

yuppers, why beat yourself up with a dull chain? If it’s not cutting easy and fast...STOP! Clean up those rounded teeth, and enjoy the feeling of a hot knife falling thru butter. My falling dogs on my saws are never really used....if you have to lever your bar thru wood....your chain is likely dull! cheers from northern BC

IV got a 562xp in Australia stamped 2017 It has trouble hot starting I have to flip choke up and down to put it in high idle then starts fine powerful runner with 20"

I like having control of my tune, but there’s something to be said about picking a saw up and working right away, everytime, and having it adjust to all the elements.

I have one M-Tronic, and I really like it. Runs the same on the hottest days of summer and the coldest of winter with no tuning - just flip the little winter shutter around. Haven't had the guts to muffler mod it, but I understand it'll retune itself if I do. Gotta keep an open mind for these things!

@@Vinson351 It calibrates itself. Just let the saw warm up before you use it. I think calibration takes 30 seconds at startup.

From what I’ve read in the manual, and from Stihl’s website and KZread page, as long it’s under the same conditions it doesn’t need calibrated. However, if elevation, temperature, etc, are different it needs recalibrated. That is done manually after warming up the saw.

@@Vinson351 Checked my manual, and you're right, the calibration process is more than letting it warm up for 30 seconds. The way my manual is formatted, it reads as start the saw and let it run for 30-60s without touching the throttle. Then at the top of the next column there's a boat load of warnings and notices before it says to run it full throttle for at least 30s. It also says "Calibration enables the saw to be adjusted faster for optimum performance." I guess I've never calibrated it, and never needed to, because it will slowly adapt, just not as fast as if calibrated.

Im guilty of blowing up my 550xp with a dull chain. But thanks to this channel, it's alive again.

One other issue I notice with some people, they seem to for some reason, have the need to cut a lot of air. Especially when limbing. Not so much in a woodpile. I will take notice next time I am out if I even have the saw at full throttle when limbing. High rpms and no load is a issue. Also maybe these new saw are designed to run hotter to meet EPA standards. I have only blown up one saw in my lifetime. I by mistake, put raw gas in a 254xp. My first brand new saw was a XL76. That's a Homelite. My last new saw was a 550xp. Mark i. Thinking about getting the mark ii. If they are better I will have one. Still doing the research on that.

I have a second gen ms 261 cm. It hauls ass. The only advice I can give is to reset the computer with big temp swings. Love mine

5 series Husqvarna saws rev and run like wild BUT they have a serious issue with crank bearings and seals. Do not mix at 50:1 try 40:1

I will say my MS441C has preformed well. I did have to break it in, starts easy and is a workhorse.

The auto tune will run funny on a cold start because it’s fuel settings are as per when it was shut off. So it takes a couple min to adjust to the current situation then they take off.. the 550xp are hot rods..

Good vid. What is a good method when checking over a used saw for sale? I have an Echo cs-341, but I'm looking for a saw with more power and a higher quality built saw. I can tell you're a good mechanic bc I can c the JB Weld hanging up 😎.

I have a 545 and the 365 Husqvarna x torque that 365 is a beast

I bought my first 562xp new in early summer 2016. 4 hours in it blew up from a bad crank seal, dealer gave me a brand new powerhead. The next one, I cannot remember how many hours were on it but was blocking up a roughly 20" downed tree and was wide open mid cut and she locked up instantly. Overtorqued crankcase half bolt pulled the threads and went into the flywheel. I was starting to get a little irritated and almost went a different route but Husky had the dealer give me another brand new powerhead. I abused the everliving dogshit out of it since and even after sitting a year now I bet it will start in 3 pulls. Still my favorite saw to this day. Husqvarna even replaced it both times beings I was running amsoil under warranty. They didn't care, it had good oil. Dealer said Stihl would have never warrantied it and I would have been SOL. After that I said if I ever buy a new saw it will be a Husqvarna for that reason. That was customer service that went above and beyond that's for sure.

My first husky was a gen1 550xp and still runs like new 4 years later and recently bought the 572

How’s your 572 runnin? I’m having trouble with mine idling. Tried some of the carb reset techniques but it’s still being a bit temperamental. Absolute beast in the cut though

@@timhopkins7372 that’s what I’m hoping. It was fine for a couple weeks but since then man it won’t idle for more than about 15 seconds

I have a 261 mtronic and it runs really good but in hot weather it doesn't like to start after running a while.

I like the new husqvarna saws. It's too bad the aftermarket isn't there yet. oem piston/cylinder are so expensive you are better off buying a new one. Maybe I should start hoarding 5 series scored saws and cross my fingers the aftermarket will get there😂

I’ve got a mk2 550xp and it can be ver temperamental when starting sometimes. Does scream when it gets going though!

Any saw tempermental until warmed up.

I'm a homeowner and run a POS consumer saw, it works fairly decent for limbing and light work. The biggest problem I see with low end stuff is people mixing the oil lean or using cheep oil. 50 vs 40 to 1, the mfg is under pressure to run lean and increasing the oil mix one level is better for a hard working saw. My saw suggests 40/1 and and when I add 5ml to a liter can of ready fuel, the saw runs better.

I've personally never had an issue running a good 50:1 oil. My MS 171 paid for itself with its first use. I'm sure the air filter is what's going to get it eventually. It always winds up with fines on the wrong side of the filter.

Just bought a 562 used off marketplace that will run with the throttle open but won't idle. Searching KZread for help on how to fix it to find only to go to the dealer lol makes me wish I got a 365.
