Speaking of Husqvarna making improvements as they go (@ 5:20 Donnie starts talking about seals and bearings), I just got a new 550XP MkII [U.S.] and straight away I removed the recoil starter cover to have a look at the ignition wiring; to see if I needed to relieve the saw chassis at that point so as not to chafe and cut through the ign wire insulation... and it's different! on my saw. There's no wire contact w/ the chassis and the wires are held secure in a newer style retainer or cradle. Thanks to Donnie (Sam! actually, right?) for pointing this out but looks like there's no need to address this issue with this new saw purchased March 2023.

When the temps, etc... change a lot, I’ll do a field reset... noticed that helps it get acclimated to climate easier

Stihl motomix or Husqvarner premix are great products to use no doubt! IF you are going to blow thru a few gallons of fuel within a short period of time then 91 (or better) NON ethanol fuel with high-quality mix oil ; running the canned gas may get expensive at $32/gal 😀 IF the saws are going to be laid up for a bit then I’ll dump out the non-ethanol and fill up with the canned fuel and run it for a few minutes - then she can come off the shelf and be redy to cut! This system has served me well thru the years. The whole object is to not let the “pump gas” sit in the saw for any length of time as the fuel nowadays isn’t what it used to be. As far as mix ratio 50:1 has served me well either with canned fuel or pump gas / mix oil ... these guys advocating 32:1 or 40:1 mix ratios better DAMN well be running the SNOT outta their saws hour after hour otherwise it’ll be carbon city ...

Yes. I do run the living snot out of my saws at a rich mixture. Never an issue of carbon build up or fouling plugs. You have to get them hot, to a degree.

In my experience, vac leak is the intake. Carb boot, impulse, or gasket. Though, in a low hour saw... that's strange. It did cook itself to death from drinking straight gas.... Hmmm... Interesting. I'm absolutely with you on husky sealed bearings being an issue. I had a 385xp that was a royal pain.. it went through 3 clutch-side oem bearing seals... Until it didn't. Same part number every time, but the 3rd replacement never had an issue for hundreds of hours. Great video, and I stand by the premix fuel. I used it for the off-season without issue. Luckily, I can still get 92 octane non-ethanol at the pump.... But its expensive.

Hey Donny, one other thing would be the Field reset for the high circuit (the 8 foot rip cut)...I know you don't get the cold weather down there like the rest of us, but when you're low elevation and the weather drops 20 degrees, it makes a huge difference on how lean the air/fuel mix is, and I believe that's the way those saws adjust. Agreed with the pressure and vacuum😉👍.

What are your thoughts on the canned gas for the older saws….mid 70’s Homelite’s, Echo’s, Pioneers etc… Should we stay with non ethanol and premix maybe a led substitute.?

Hey DW, Have you checked out the Oakie Woodsman's issue with his new 562? He's ran it very little and it starts running terrible. He had trouble getting it started first time, probably pulled it 30 times before it tried 2 start. Check it out and chime in with what you think may be the issue, tell him Doc sent ya!

Donny, this is off topic, but what are your thoughts on running oil heavier than 50:1? I run a echo 501p that is stock other than a muffler mod and the limiter caps removed and carb tuned properly. I use red armor oil at 40:1 with non ethanol gas and the saw runs good. Do you recommend that ratio or should i go back to 50:1 and retune it for the different mix?
