@@darthunleashed it wasn't just caps. Broxah and Hyli were stagnant and too late on their rotations. Bwipo played a little too far forward without any vision or map awareness. & Dylan and Rekkless were idiots on drafts trying to get a counter botlane matchup rather than leaving the counterpicks for their solo laners and waiting till stage 2 of the drafts allowing IG to ban out rekkless's best ADC's.

They didnt overcome no one. Before 2018 EU teams where on the level of LPL so it wasnt unexpected to beat an LPL team and ecpetially the 3rd seed. They beat IG in groups, but a similar thing hapened the next year whit FPX and SPY. The same year G2 beat RNG too, so it wasnt just FNC who beat them. And then it comes the semis which was C9. Also Korea wasnt good that year. The reason Capa left was because that team was not on the level it was needed to win, they where actially a britle team that didnt get tested until the finals at worlds and then they collapsed.

2018 Fnatic is my all time favourite team, and this captured it all neatly. I’d give anything to go back to the moments before those finals games. It was so damn exciting before it all went wrong. Then came pure pain when the hope was ripped away, but I believed in them right till the end. It always feels wrong when I watch it back, an anomaly, as if losing wasn’t supposed to happen. Still sad to this day. Thanks for the cool video covering it all.

NGL people remember 2019 G2 because they beat DWG and T1, you know DWG the team that won worlds the following year with 4 of the same players and SKT who were the LCK 1st seed and had the greatest player of all time. Compare that to FNC beating EDG and C9, keep in mind this is not worlds winning EDG, this is Ray toplane haro Jungle EDG they were by far the weakest LPL team. You could make a fair case that 2019 G2 was only the 3rd best team because IG looked very good, but FNC was at best the 4th, maybe even 5th best team at worlds in 2018, they just got blessed by the bracket gods putting IG, KT and RNG all on the other side of the bracket. You could honestly make a fair argument that 2018 G2 played better than 2018 FNC because at least 2018 G2 beat RNG(the team that won both LPL splits and MSI) whereas the best team FNC beat in Bo5s was EDG. Also another decent argument is timezones, fewer westerners watch FNC live in 2018 because worlds was in Korea and therefor had much worse viewing times for western fans whereas 2019 worlds was in Europe.

Another thing I feel that people are forgetting is how much of a rookie Caps was in 2017 but also still in 2018. He did some awesome plays, but you can also see him in many games not being the carry but rather the opposite. In hindsight I think people just summarize the 2018 and 2019 success with "Caps was in both teams", but lets be real, Caps 2018 wasn't the reason alone they made it that far. And sometimes maybe it was even despite his play that they pulled it through.

G2 might be considered the greatest EU org considering its recent success, but don’t forget who was standing as the west’s only hope for years. It’s always been Fnatic. 2011* Worlds winner (debatable tournament) 2013 Worlds semifinalists 2015 Worlds semifinalists They had reached top 4 multiple times before any other western team could get a glympse of it (OG in 2015). They were carrying not only EU, but the whole occident, while the rest could only watch and cheer. Reaching Worlds finals in 2018 was truly a statement, the culmination of their run, which could have been historical hadn’t IG had that substantial improvement through the Bo5s. Nevertheless, Fnatic deserves some more respect on its name, we can’t forget what they’ve done for the first 8 years of the sport.

It might be because I've been a Fnatic fan for 10+ years, but it has always bugged me that since 2019 every one talks about G2 being the only EU team to really compete with the LCK and LPL and almost win worlds. Even in 2020 Fnatic took TES to the full 5 games in the worlds quarter finals, G2 were never the only competitive team. The really sad thing for EU fans in general is that both G2 and Fnatic didn't show up and play at the level they were capable of in the 2018 and 2019 finals, if they did I believe they both could have won at the time.

as the players started to talk more about the final, there are several issues on why Fnatic could not fight IG at the final. The first is obviously Ning performance. Every fans and analysts pinpoint jungle and botlane as the weakness that Fnatic can exploit from IG. But Ning played like a monster in the final, earning MVP, and gaping Broxah. The second one is mentioned by Bwipo in TL channel. Fnatic, fans, and all analysts expect IG to put carry on top and mid because TheShy and Rookie are better laner than Bwipo and Caps. But instead, they put Sion on top so that they can pick Camille for Ning in jungle. Bwipo said that Fnatic never win any scrims game against IG when they have Camille jungle. It is Ning's comfort champion.

Really good video, I think it could have been slightly more interesting if it wasn't entirely focused on Fnatic but instead went over all of the different story lines that happened in that tournament. You already talked about 5/7, five game series, but the other two are arguably the most interesting at least to me, you have the god performance from Perkz to carry G2 to a victory over RNG, and Na's first modern Bo5 victory against Korea. There are also so many different interesting aspects about the champion select logistics that I love, Hjarnan's Heimerdinger being pick/ban as far as I remember, Bwipo being arguably the best victor top being a big reason for their performance as well as Licorice having a pocket pick Hecarim counter to Aatrox making that pick weaker vs C9 come to mind. As should be obvious this is by far my favorite league tournament that has happened maybe second to MSI 2019. Still loved the video and keep up the good work.

To this day I dont understand why Caps did it, he was at the best team in europe and still decided to go to G2. I mean in the end he did the right thing, he won MSI, went again to worlds Finals and won the LEC multiple times but in the perspective as a player, why would you leave the best team in europe. Him leaving was the downfall of Fnatic, we tried so hard with lots of players but it didnt work out. I will never forget this Fnatic.
