I got one as a birthday gift last week. It is labeled M4 Carbine, has the correct FN logo, and is made in SC. It also has the MFG code on the lower and the barrel. The barrel is a heavy profile barrel. They made some improvements, for sure.

I actually snagged the M16 collector one about 3 months after getting my M4 collector one. I just picked it up from the store and now looking it over. It's pretty close to what I remember in service. I remember the buffer was clear instead of black and this one came clear like I remember. The only thing I'm upgrading is getting a carry handle sight and I just put in a Geiselle trigger.

I got my M-16A4 last Christmas. The store also had the M-4 but I had to let that go…Christmas season…..I already overcharged my credit card as it was so yeah, had to let the M-4 go. The only thing I put on it was the ACOG on my MK12. I got a Vortex Eagle scope for it so transferred the COG to the M-16. Great shooter! Thinking of a Fostech Echo Trigger for it…It needs something more automatic.

Just a quick correction. The ones that he is reviewing that's rollmarked FN15 carbine (M4A1) and FN15 rifle (M16A4) that are produced in Fredericksburg, Virginia are the commercial-spec pre-production models. The later ones are rollmarked M4 Carbine (M4A1) and M16 Rifle (M16A4) and are produced in Columbia, South Carolina where all the mil-spec firearms by FN for the military are produced.

No, when they get it right, you absolutely want their products. In the case of military rifle clones, if you get the right ones, they are the closest one can get to the actual GI issue. They make military grade weapons. They make 1995-era weapons but still military grade. Colt has the finest record of any weapons manufacturing company in the world to produce the numbers they have with the degree of quality. They just never update and improve their technology. They do no more and no less than exactly what they are asked for by the government. Other manufacturers, far superseding in updates in modularity, modern materials and design improvements.

That its pulled off the assembly line and sent to have the flash hider welded on with an extended A2. The lower is obviously standard le6920 with different markings. Due to the NFA. The barrels on these is 4140 steel not 4150 mil spec. So they are inferior the mil issued rifles.

@@11binfantryfollowmeus.army95 Everywhere I've looked says that the FN barrels are 4140. Apparently even the users manual for the gun says 4140. I hope that me and Nick are wrong, but everything points to 4140 that I've seen for this version. Feel free to set the record straight with definitive proof, but it sure seems like FN is pulling some HK MR556 bs with this collectors edition. I won't buy a significantly more expensive alternative to the colt AR-15A4 that's been downgraded for cost cutting measures. That's insulting.

FN is good and bad, they have great products mostly but! Their service suuuuucks! And parts availability is near zero. Take a lesson from Glock FN u’ll make more money

I don't think those rifles are true "milspec" as much as Colt...WHat's the deal with the barrel? I see it's not machined to standard contour behind the flash hider? Is it the same rifle that FN put out a few years ago with the big painted FN on the wrong side of the lower?? Those had a barrel that was 1/2 inch too long and not profiled properly...... I'm speculating FN can't sell a "milspec" rifle on the open market, while Colt can....

Not cold hammer forged for around $1800 IIRC? Ripoff IMO.

jdessell well when you can build a military DoD contact marked lower with a Knights rail system with a Matech sight. Properly staked and marked and heat treated parts. Type 3 class 3 anodized upper and lower. A FN buttoned barrel, which is held to a higher QC than other manufacturers. Not to mention FN builds thier own bolt, bolt carrier, buffer tubes, lowers, barrels and magazines (the parts that actually matter) and are not an assembler of other brands mixed matched parts for less than $1700-1800. Let me know. Yes it's expensive, but this isn't a Spikes or a BCM. It's an FN. You do get what you pay for.

jdessell besides you can find the FN Tactical II Carbine with a cold hammer forged barrel and the same in house built parts, not assembled mixed matched parts, and a Mega Arms/Zev handguard and Scar flash hider for around $1300 sometimes less. That will beat Daniel Defense quality at $200 to $400 less.

jdessell - ill put my 2 FNs up against anything out there at any price. and spank them! both my modded M4 and my 18" match grade sporter are 100% reliable and both shoot sub 3/8" 5-rd 100 yd groups. and many perfect, single bullet hole, .000" 3-rd and sub 1/8" 5-rd 25 yd groups. and after 6000 rds and 3000 rds respectively, both still look like new. the bolts show no wear at all. only the cam pin, corners of the gas key on the BCG and of course the charging handles show any wear and its just minor finish wear. ill never hesitate to buy FN. even if they are a bit more expensive.

Unfortunately these days, you would have to inspect the Colt rifle to see what you were getting beforehand
