Facts! First defense is get out of the situation a.s.a.p. If that is not an option, it's best to practice for all scenarios aka martial form. As Bruce Lee said "There is a time and place for everything." Meaning there's a time to box, grapple, kick box and run. Situational awareness is paramount.

Well, there's running and there is running. The opponent might close the distance while you turn around and accelerate, follow you, throw something after you, or you might run into an obstacle. Maintaining situational awareness is key.

@@icempire all martial arts promote trying to avoid a conflict first Your life could be ruined/ended with a fight You don’t know if they have backup somewhere else, you don’t know if they have a gun on them til it’s too late, you can practice and train for years to defend against knifes but a split second chance could also make you lose. All of those things, plus the possibility you could accidentally kill someone and wind up in prison OR you end up dead or brain dead…. It’s not worth the risk. By running you can at least try to avoid it (also in a case you do accidentally kill someone, it shows you tried your best to get out of the situation first) But also by running you can have a better understanding of how many people are actually going after you, if they have ranged weapons, and how determined they are to get you. If they catch you then you can handle it better knowing there’s a huge chance it’s only the ones who chased you and about a 80% chance they don’t have a gun on them but be ready for anything else

@jobgeniston : A practicing criminal lawyer oftentimes told his grade. 4 yrs experienced, witnessing his Aikido trained father, engaged in a empty hand fight : 1) Both of them eating in a restaurant, eight (8) bolo wielding men trying to enter the said restaurant -oviously to kill his father... Same father runned in the midst of the nearby empty plaza, such group of men followed and sorrounded his father- the plaza become filled with onlookers... Methodically, they attacked his father with their bolo weapon- his father easily snatching away the weapon, then laying the snatched bolo on the pavement - doing no harm to the attacker!.. All eight (8) attacker become armless, but alive, one after the other, their bolo were all snatch away by his father, after each grappling episode!.. Then, they all run. away, admitting the futily of their failed planned!... 2) In 2nd instance : His father and him were in the ricefield, around 10 a.m., tending their 12. inches high rice plant... Suddenly, a big bodied beighbor come toward them, cursing his father, holding a very sharp, shining bolo.. By hand signal, his father motioned him to take cover in a nearby irrigation concrete pipe...Then his father assumed the crouched position, two (2) elbows resting on each of his knee, one of his hand was loaded with scooped mud from the ricefield ground- cautiously waiting for the approaching hostile neighbor... Around 2. meters away (6. feet), his father accurately throw the said mud to the eyes of his attacker- with split seconds blindness, his father jumped to his attacker and disarmed him of his very sharp bolo... Then, his father slapped in controlled fashion the head of his attacker, not by hand, but using the snatched bolo flat side- the defeated foe was wailing in pain : about the mud in his eyes, pain in his pummelled head- accompanied by repeated crying shout of mercy, that he should not be killed!!...😢😢😢😢

Only in this context you use a knife. In even more simpler terms, you stab someone then you try to yank out the area you've stabbed like dragging the bottlecap like skin.

In the “master course”, you learn how to deal with the post fight mess. “You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, "as greedy as a pig". BrickTop, from the movie “Snatch”

This is not a self defense you use if your opponent is amateur or some thugs. This fighting style is used if you're against a professional knife wielder, the aim is to bleed your opponent before you die, to redirect your opponent thrust to none vital organ while you go for major arteries usually neck if you're not using karambit.

You got to have a killer's mindset when in a real encounter. Without it, this is useless. But this is martial arts, there is beauty in countering an attack.

As you can see. While. Good techniques. He technically is with in cutting range and may even accidentally get cut by just moving the attackers hands. There is no getting cut in a knife fight. Let's get that straight. THERE IS NO NOT GETTING CUT IN A KNIFE FIGHT. Nice techniques. Awesome art.

@@bellzeppelin6913 ALL of these counters. I was just thinking the same. It's good to know these, but some moves like this should only be saved as a last resort. With the speed you're gonna have to use to get the knife there, thats llethal. it's probably more practical to learn how to counter in a way thats not going to unlive someone

I have a question. Hypothetical situation, there is an active shooter, let's say in a grocery store. You have an opportunity to strike them unseen with your knife. Where would the optimal place to hit them with knife, to give you the best chances of incapacitating them and also not giving them a chance to get any last shots at you while they're dropping?
