FlySky i6 Flaperons - 3 methods

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Three ways to program flaperons (and spoilers) using a FlySky i6 transmitter or TGY i6.
1. Using the VRA variometer knob. (Sorry that should be POTENTIOMETER or VARIABLE RESISTOR knob)
2. Using the SWC 3 way switch
3. Using the throttle stick - only for motor-less gliders
Mountainman's T6 flaperon mix - www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...
IMPORTANT: Flaperons are only possible with ailerons on separate channels. Dual rates and Expo are only possible with ailerons on a Y lead in a single channel. Flaperons and Dual rates are not possible with this radio.

    I have a 2s 120mah 20c into a 5v ubec then onto the FS I-6 Reciever I successfully connected a servo to channel 1 with the first mix being 5 slaved and another servo to 5. I had servo function then I added mix two with potentiometer 1 with channel 1 slaved to that I adjusted the potentiometer and only one servo moved I started to adjust positive and negative to find control for both servos from the potentiometer and the servos started sizzling, trembling and going all over the place. I removed the potentiometer from the mix. After that I found that there was no servo response at all. Re binded the Rx and nothing still. Thought battery was dead and plugged it into the charger. Error response from charger. Looked at battery and noticed it had ballooned a little. Plugged in another battery and Rx and servos are ok. That program you instructed on using the potentiometer for flaperon mixing fried one of my batteries!

    Hi Andrew. I must say that your channel is great, informative and helpfull. I have started to fly RC planes in about half a year ago and learnd a lot from your channel. I have just finished to build Photon from from ExperimentalAirlines by Ed, and as I have FlySky i6 I really like your tutorial how to set Flaperons, which I want to use. Here comes the problem. I have two separate servos plugged in to channel 1 and channel 6 is right aileron. I have settup the radio the same way as you describe. It works... "but" my ailerons are reversed. You mentioned in the video that we should change positive and negative mix to either 100% or -100%. Ailerons are wokring in the separate direction as they should when I set 100%, but reversed. If I choose -100 on positive mix both are up and for my understanding negative mix left aileron should go down, but id does not. If I have both mixes on mix#1 on -100 both ailerons go up. But if I have 100% it works but reversed. Can you please help me to figure out the problem? My goal is to use separate leads for servos, and have flaperons for soaring. I would really appriciate any help and any advice. Thank you in advance. :)

  • @AndrewNewton

    @AndrewNewton

    Hi Martin. Photon was my first plane too. I would start from the beginning with your mixing. Just plug in the L aileron to Ch1 and get it working in the correct direction. Select Reverse for Ch1 if it's working in the wrong direction. Then my instructions should work for you. Good luck.

    Hi Andrew, I must say that your answer kind of helped. :) I got it working eventualy, just had to set up new plane on the radio and start from CH1, put it to revers, played with it for about 20 min and got it working :D juhuu :) Now just waiting for a windless day to maiden it. Thank you anyway :)

    I realize I needed mix 3 for the servo on channel 5 but that doesn't change what happened. When I wrote potentiometer 1 I meant potentiometer A. It seemed that as soon as I adjusted the positive and negative that's when trouble started. I want to use the potentiometer but have just 1 battery left and am reluctant to attempt that program again. I think you owe me a battery. Best of spirits!

    Pretty easy to understand the case when you mix a channel into itself. The radio executes commands in sequence, like a flowchart. 1. take the value of CH2 2. modify it by the amount given in the mix 3. write it back to CH2 4. output the final value to CH2's port, or display it, or whatever 5. goto 1. For example if you set a mix of -100%, than whenever you move the stick, it will always subtract the same amount from it, so it will remain at 0. p.s. However I've noticed, that if you add another mix, and make for ex. CH1 follow exactly CH2, (a mix of 100%) it will not do so! (will not stay at 0) Actually it will follow CH2's stick movement.

Mine both work great. I separated the leads like you said, so right aileron goes on ch6 and left on ch 1 (with no y lead). I have the exact same radio, too. ??? Great video Andrew, I have the i6x, and have found a really annoying flaw (Flysky software designers whoopsie moment) in that switch assignments are global for all models, there is no way to configure switches to different assignments on different models...! A real wtf to flysky on that one, it has the potential to be such a great radio, just let down by a hungover software designer. Anyway, flaperons are great, much better than cutting flaps into unequipped wings.

    Hello Andrew, I have been watching your videos on the building and adapting the Phoenix 2000, with most interest. I am in the process of buying either a Phoenix 2000 or ASW-28 and on your video I have seen that you are using a "Flysky FS-i6" (the same transmitter that I have in my possession), Can you please help me to set up the transmitter to these gliders (the functions must be the same for both) and especially the set up of the flaps. Do you run the servo's simultaneously via two cables ending up to one going to the receiver or are the two servo's connected to two different channels? Thanks for y our help, Emiel Driessen.

    Hello AndrewI am having some problems with turnigy 9xr I bought 3 of them 3 years ago from hobbyking. 2 of them still in their boxes. Recently I noticed that the limits tends to drift ( if that's the word ) so instead of being 0.0 the Alieron Elevator and Rudder seem to self adjust sometimes -34.6 for Alieron 5.6 for elevator -1.2 for rudder. Sorry I hope I have not confused you. What do you think could be at fault? could it be I may have to replace my gimbals. Anyway I opened the other Turnigy 9xr and checked it to find that the throttle when all the way down is not down because timer is counting down and when I apply down pressure on the throttle stick it stops the timer. So out of 3 turnigy 9xr radios I only have one that works.
