Flying VII build - Day 1

Музыка

Here is a video on the 7-string Flying VII (Roman numeral 7!!) that I am building for Tim Steinruck. Today started with some unsoldering of the Theremin circuit. I trimmed the wires and tinned them. When I went to solder the first of many wires, it seemed some solder was left in the pads on the circuit board. I tried a few different ways to clear the solder blockage, but nothing worked. So, I will break open a new Theremin kit and use a clean circuit board so that I will be able to use the prepared wired components from the first kit.
I am not even sure this idea is possible, combining a passive pickup circuit with an active component. My logic says the 9-volt Theremin and the passive pickups could be mixed together with a blend potentiometer before going to the output jack. That is how I see it working, anyway.
I then looked at a few options for mounting the circuit board in the control cavity. But it looks like there will need some routing, as well as a custom pickguard.
Up next, I will be finishing up the Theremin kit and giving it a test run. It should be pretty fun!!
Stay tuned ... more to come!!!

I would try a stereo jack output with the guitar signal using the tip, the thermin using the ring and ground being common. i would think a diode would be used too to keep the guitar signal from engaging into the thermin circuit to the output jack or vise versa or possibly both. I don't think i would try a potentiometer blend unless it had a diode gate with it. We're talking about using a magnetic field to activate a pickup and an dc voltage to activate a frequency... By experience if you short a phone plug cable while hooked into an amp input for awhile it will create a short in the preamp section with no signal flowing to the output stage. So in stereo mode you could create a project box where the stereo 1/4 inch cable from the guitar enters the box and enters a "y" output ( For separation). one output jack ( mounted in project box ) going to a individual input channel on a mixer and likewise with the other output of the other output jack in the project box.

Thanks, Richie!! The stereo jack was one thing I have been looking at. The extra diode to keep everything flowing in the right direction is a great idea!!
