Flying to Caernarfon for lunch | EV97 Eurostar Microlight

Caernarfon, North Wales is one of my favourite places to visit by air. The coastline is stunning and the contrast between the low and high ground next to the sea is beautiful. This time I took my mate James for a day trip in the Eurostar. The trip starts off grey and overcast in Manchester but as we track along the Dee estuary the sky turns blue. Make sure you subscribe and hit the notification bell for part 2 when we check out the aviation museum and fly back above scattered clouds around Mount Snowdon.

    Great use of a thorough weather briefing Rory. Its all too easy to choose not to fly if you see a bit of weather about, but by spending some extra time and making a thorough research you ended up having a great day. Well done! Looking forward to the return leg,

    Kevin Chilton thanks Kevin. Yeah I’m really pleased I didn’t abandon that day. It did look pretty grey and I knew it was bad further south but as you see it was great in North Wales. It’s given me more confidence in my weather understanding too.

    Awesome video and awesome scenery, north Wales really does top the scale. We took our holiday in Barmouth this year, one of hottest places in july. The view from nearby Harlech castle was amazing, I know you like your castles lol. Great to hear the Rory on air theme music on final approach very fitting, always look forward to the next video. Well done.

    Beautiful views of the coastline! Unsolicited advice: ball caps and sun glasses are a MUST in the bubble canopy Evektor! I keep a spare of each in my Sportstar if a passenger doesn't have their own. You're doing GREAT and showing excellent situational awareness. Good on ya, mate, from across the pond in New Mexico, USA.

    Great video Rory. Music worked well and a new camera angle out over the trailing edge? Nice when the weather works out that way. I don't like it when the radio goes like that and it becomes very distracting. Looking forward, as always, to the next one. 👍

    Chris England great stuff Chris - I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. I love this trip as the scenery is always lovely, even in less favourable conditions. I’ve had more recent issues with lack of reception to Valley actually, the one out in the morning features no response from them either.

    Hey Rory! I’ve been following your fantastic videos for a few weeks now - we share a passion for flying and radio it would seem. I work for Heart and I’m also currently in the early stages of training for my NPPLm. My question - I’m only a few hours in and have flown mainly the Eurostar - do you prefer the Ikarus or the Eurostar ? I need to make a decision soon! Yet to fly C42. But see you’ve flown both!

  • @RoryOnAir

    @RoryOnAir

    5 жыл бұрын

    Ben Atkinson hi Ben, nice to ‘meet’ you! Yeah, I think there must be something about Radio and flying, and I’m delighted you like the videos. I did all my training on the Eurostar and then converted so I could fly the C42 as well. They are both great but I would say the C42 is marginally easier to fly. The Eurostar needs slightly more hands on flying and I love the view. It’s easy to convert once you pass so I would choose based on which is more available or the instructor you prefer flying with.

    @@RoryOnAir Cheers for replying Rory! Yeh - I know several other radio people with an interest / licenses. I will definitely make some videos of the learning process now I've committed to the idea of getting a license. Thanks for the useful insight. I'm tempted to do what you've done and learn on the slightly harder to fly Eurostar, and get the C42 / Skyranger rating once I've passed (there's talk of the club selling a C42 for another Skyranger). Plus - having the ability to fly all 3 planes improves the likelihood of actually hiring a plane on a nice day. I also like the idea of cabin heat for winter flying to be honest!! Next lesson in two weeks!

    wax roberts it’s a fair question but I never turn my phone off and my iPad is on too. Passengers always have phones on and it’s never been an issue. Plus as you’ll see on the return leg other aircraft were struggling to hear them too.

    Rory, of the microlight class that you're trained to fly, which do you prefer? I've flown the C42 before, but the low wing Eurostar looks great fun.

    Harry Marshall I like flying them both for various reasons. The C42 is very comfy and easy to fly, hands off a lot of the time. It also gives you shade in the sun. The Eurostar has an amazing view and is more ‘hands on’ to fly which I like. I would say I prefer the Eurostar but it’s close!
