CRAZY CHALLENGING farm strips that are just PLANE FUN!
I love farm strips and this time we get to visit two new ones, both short and tight where I not only get to fly a tricky approach and get rewarded with some amazing ice cream, I also get to, unintentionally, shower a load of kids with stones.
So, join me today as together we go summer farm stripping in Kent.
Solleys is a famous brand of Kentish ice cream made to a special recipe on the lovely working farm at Ripple where we will be checking out the short farm strip located there and tasting their sweet ice cream straight from the on site parlour shop.
But first we’re off to Harringe Court Farm a 380 meter narrow grass strip that’s mainly used by microlights and from my PPR and briefing and with the wind blowing from the north today I’ve established that we’ll need to be landing on their runway 01 which has a slight down hill slope.
Harringe Court Farm is located just over 5 nautical miles to the west of Folkestone and about the same distance to the east of Ashford in Kent. It has a single grass runway 380 meters long by 10 meters wide oriented 01 / 19 it’s set in open farmland but with noise sensitive areas all around and a model flying club close to the 19 threshold, it is also home to the Kent Microlight Club.
The two strips I visit in this episode both require, PPR you can find details below:

My name is Terry Kent and I am a General Aviation PPL private pilot operating out of North Weald EGSX about 12 miles to the north east of London in the UK. Short Field is my channel focused on the lighter side of General Aviation including flight and airfield reviews, equipment unboxing and review plus all things private pilot related. I use various cameras to record my videos including GoPro and Insta 360 and stills and edit them in Adobe Premiere Pro, I am an animator as well and often use animations to describe situations more clearly I use Blender and Adobe After Effects for these. I always attempt to post my videos in the highest possible quality, normally 4k.
I fly a 2011 Pipersport two seat single engine aircraft that is also known as the PS28 or SportCruiser in the USA (America) it is know under the FAA as an LSA or Light Sport Aircraft and can be flown on a very basic license. In the UK it is a Part 21 airplane which requires a full licence but it's generally cheap to run, affordable maintenance and great value for money. It cruises at 100 to 105 knots and has superb short take off and landing or STOL capabilities. I visit farm strips, back country and short airfields, some of them dangerous and I try not to crash :-), as well as international airports and try to learn something new every time I fly.
I fly VFR and IFR as well as visual and instrument approaches.
My videos may give helpful information to pilots but please remember these are just for entertainment, I am not an instructor nor should anything shown in my videos be used for real world aviation, also the airfields I visit may have totally changed or even closed since the making of the video so always consult the latest information for your country.

The fact that you can just walk in and make a coffee and sign the guest book when nobody’s about, and that how you talk about it is like it’s how all the little grass strip fields are… I never would have expected that! Very cool!

Hi Terry, nice video and glad you enjoyed the visit to our Farm. Next time you approach 02 from the West, extend your base until you are clear of the village and then approach final over the open farm land which means you have a slight dog leg turn to the right just before the campsite and then touch down. This avoids overflying properties in Ripple. Look forward to seeing you an your next visit.

I would love to come back and do it properly and to say "hi", it was such an honour. Hopefully I did a good job of showing how wonderful your farm is and what great ice-cream you make. I didn't get the guys name who cleared the runway, I thought it was you first of all but then realised it wasn't, he was very nice and so helpful, please pass on my thanks. Thanks, a very interesting video. Lots of fun. Camera angles had me gripping the seat a couple of times though! 🤣 20+ years ago I used to fly from White Waltham up to a disused tarmac strip in Bucks. It was privately owned and needed a phone call for permission and instructions as it was also a model aircraft strip. Approach with lights on and overfly at 300ft above giving modellers the warning that the next approach would be a full stop. Overfly was always interesting as the modellers would fly alongside so keeping straight was a necessity. Sunday would see a market at the end of the strip to visit and get snacks. Take off with an immediate right turn to avoid overflying the market. Loved it.

Just found your channel. I live the Victorian high country in Australia. Lots of little country farm strips around. Where I live there is a public grass strip 600m beside a lake with a 5 minute walk into town, plus a private 1200m bitumen strip for ag work and fire fighting ops. Surrounded by mountains, the scenery is beautiful. If you're ever down under, come pay us a flying visit. Would like to catch up. 👍
Beautifull
I thought this was short field program. I've landed and taken off from Crop Duster Strips in the Florida Everglades meant for high power Stearman's. Flying a Cessna 152. This strip was half the length recommended for the A/C with about three foot clearance on the wing tips. The take off was a high performance run to clear trees at the end. Normally take off roll for 152 was 750ft. I had just over 400. This skill gave me options in emergencies.

Thank you very much 👍
@2:02 to your left are the industrial units of Lympne Ind est, formally RAF Lympne…. Post war home to Skyways Airline & Dan Air, last used I believe until mid ‘70s when everything went down to Lydd Airport.. On your right, also at 2:02 is the car park to Howlets Port Lympne wildlife zoo…. Didn’t realise Harringe had a strip.. near by here to Folkestone is Pent Farm strip (just north of M20) believe the odd ‘Spit’ flew out of here (recently) Then SW of Ashford is Fridd Farm strip, close to Bethersden… Great video, will subscribe…👍

I love flying this area. Thank you so much for the kind comment and sub really means more than you would think.
Heard of people going for a "£100 burger" before but never a £100 ice-cream. Good tip with the coffee.

I actually threw up once when I made a coffee from the on site stuff and used curdled milk, it's a tip I learnt through a bad experience :-) Thanks for the watch and support. I'm hoping to pop into your field soon, I'll let you know when I'm coming.

@@ShortField I'm up for that. Maybe quick meal at the pub. Or walk round the woods at the back (it's actually an old mustard gas depot but nature has taken over and it's nice woodland now)
16:57 The kid must have been getting attacked with rocks lol. Great video, hoping either this summer or next I can land there.

Deffo go it's a great one to get in your logbook. I blame the kid :-)
I wish you had panned over all the awesome pictures in the bomb shelter more...

:-) I saved them for personal use :-)
Hi Man, I think you should bring a Check-List aboard, in order not to forget setting up the Flaps before takeoff. You almost had a close encounter with those trees the other vídeo. Good vibes! Thank You!
