Excellent! My own pilot training class (80-07, at Reese AFB, TX) had 8 Norwegian students in it, and they all were going to the F-5, and then after a couple of years in that aircraft, the F-16. However, a couple of them ended up not being fighter-qualified and ended up in C-130s. What a great bunch of guys!

@Alfred Churchill F-111, then F-16 (including at Hahn, so pretty familiar with Spang). Check out my interviews on this very channel, about 2-3 months ago (includes 2 x Q&As). Wish I were still flying the Viper! Enjoy it while you can.

@Alfred Churchill Yes, I miss Germany. I spent over 25 years of my life there (including as a child with my dad in the US Army, and 9 years as a contractor after retiring at Ramstein), and I loved it. I did like the UK a lot as well (3 years at Lakenheath). However, under the COVID madness, I must say I like it better in Florida (Orlando area) right now.

@Alfred Churchill F-16s at Lakenheath? Not that I know of. I did not say anything about that, did I? I flew the F-111 at Lakenheath. Soooo... Dual nationality, eh? Must be a real problem for that security clearance of yours, no? As to Europe these days, no thanks. Not everywhere in the US is great these days (my old state of California is simply horrible now), but Florida rocks. No way I'd move back to Europe, other than on a vacation.

@Alfred Churchill Simple: Europe is doomed. They are on the wrong course all the way. Unfortunately, it is true that many in the US (including the current administration) want to head over the same cliff, but at least there is still hope here. No way I would want to raise kids in Europe now, all they worship is their Big Government God and the COVID linacy only confirmed that, 100%. No thanks. I do make an exception for certain East European countries, such as Poland and, even more, Hungary. But the overall situation is bleak.

Brilliant interview. I kept wondering why he was sitting in an F3 cockpit though. Loved that he broke Mach 2.0 in the Viper, that's pretty rare.

Great to hear Eskil talking about his times in the viper - which recently did it's last sortie for the RNoAF. Living right under their usual downwind turn into Kjeller, I was lucky enough to see the last ones land for the last time not long ago. An end of an era for the air force indeed. Thanks for what must feel like countless hours on watch!

The F16 is definitely the workhorse of European NATO members, with so many countries like Norway, Poland, Belgium, Holland, Portugal, Romania, Denmark, Greece and even Italy (leased them temporarily) all using them. It's easy to see why as they can be used for many different missions and have the ability to be effective in extreme environments like in the far north of Norway, down to the Sunny southern tip of Portugal. Excellent video and interview. Such a nice level headed down to Earth guy. Thanks for uploading 👍
