The common thing about my favourite ex military You Tubers is that they’re all just great individuals irrespective of the fact they flew military jets. They are all humble, forthright and genuinely nice people. Great interview!

the best thing about mover is, he is still 'current' military.

For context, Mover was a winged aviator when he showed up for the Navy. And the unit he went to was not a flight training squadron. Also, Naval aviation BASIC flight training (the folks that start from scratch) is also very regimented, although not as much as USAF basic flight training. The Navy treats you like an adult while the USAF kinda treats you like you're still a college kid that needs a lot of handling. I went through Navy flight training and flew in the USMC but I had several close friends who went through exchange flight training with USAF. Just different philosophies, nothing wrong with either...just different. As Mover mentioned, the USAF Pilots are a lot more coddled.

Great interview Mike. What a character and a fantastic guy to have on the Squadron. Had a little chuckle when he mentioned the number of F22's built, that's more jets than most western countries have in their inventory. What a dream to fly the F16, looks so good just standing still. Am a Brit, but just respect the American armed forces so much.

He need's to ask better questions. He's just reading questions from a script but to take this show to the next level, he needs to rift with these guys and have a real conversation. Mover said many things that warrantied follow ups or clarification, but it's just boom, on to the next scripted question.

Hahaha this was perfect. The Navy is very much ‘here are your manuals, here’s where you can find tactics, here’s the syllabus, don’t fuck it up new guy.’ Very much ‘figure it out, we aren’t going to hold your hand.’

I love Mover's description of AF to Navy transition.. Freakin' hilarious 🤣😂😁👍 I was USCG Aviation (HU-25A) and interacted with both AF and Navy ground services.. I think most of us felt like the AF has more of a concierge service, so many ground crew!! They even offered a plane wash..lol..where the Navy was more like self service, you want it, go get it.. Lol

Watching Mover on a daily basis, it's great to see someone else wanting too interview him about he's own journey towards being a fighter pilot. Me myself stumbled upon Mover by accident, searching for some airshow stuff, and there he's channel suddenly appears, i click and haven't stopped watching since. He seems like such a good guy, you wanna spend some time with in a bar (or something), and my generel thoughts regarding to pilot's is that they all come across like very likable guys, with good ethics and morals. Me myself is just a civilian, who never got the chance to be a pilot in the first place, but has a lifelong love for plains and specific fighter plans. Btw, i'm 50 and can't wait for us to get the F-35 above and on Danish soils :-) Cheers from Denmark

@Flight Sim Historian the United States Marine Corps Reserve 4th Marine Aircraft Wing Marine Aircraft Group-41 now has the Boeing F/A-18C+ Hornets in VMFA-112 "Cowboys" at NAS.JRB. Ft. Worth, Texas. They made that transition not long ago. They are keeping those until they move to MCAS. Cherry Point, North Carolina with the Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning IIs

Good stuff! In Kingsville, we had one former USAF T-38 and U-2 driver who went Navy reserves, flew T-45Cs with us. He was a former T-38 aggressor type and flew mainly TACF and BFM.

Hey Mover, great to see you supporting other channels, and it's always great to hear you answer questions rather than just asking them. If you were flying for the Navy in the 80's, in the beloved TOMCATS - you would have to fly with a RIO - coz there is too much to do Single Seat. Jeez I wish you and Mooch would hook up. Cheers.

Great interview! WIZO's when I was in AFROTC, everyone wanted pilot slots and the others who didn't qualify..... they were always a bit off and it wasn't always because of their test scores.

Awesome. Cant remember how I wandered upon the first Mover youtube video but never thought I would listen through a whole interview. Such a likeable guy and having been a fighter geek since a kid, its a good match for a watch.

Great Interview Mike thanks for sorting this. Been following Mover for ages and he's really funny and cool that comment about WSO's being an appendix :-D :-D really made me laugh. He's also always responded to me on facebook and another Discord channel he used to frequent. Keep up the good work!

You can tell Mover is sick and tired of answering the "which fighter is the best" question. lol

He is right it's a floating penal colony.

Air Force to Navy and back to the Air Force. Our military should listen to people that have this experience for maybe a little commonality expertise.

Love the content as always, Mike. Yet again I ask you though to consider diversifying a bit and talk to some unmanned pilots. Sure, it's not as sexy as the fighters, but it's definitely full of many stories and skills explanations. Let me know, and I can facilitate that.

I am a Plank Owner for VFA-204 was there when we received the first F/A-18s, I wish I had taken more picture. Do you have any nice picture and if so do you post any and if so where?

Great stuff. I didnt get some of the pilot lingo or concepts tho. 1 - Slow-speed maneuvering - what is the advantage? 2 - Nose authority? 3 - High AOA - how is this helpful?

Slow speed maneuvering refers to where the Hornet can fight most effectively. The Hornet, for instance, likes to maneuver around 250 knots. The Falcon prefers to fight at around 350. There isn't a particular advantage it's just where the airplane works best. Nose authority is simply the ability to quickly move the nose of the airplane so it points at the bad guy so you can get a shot. Which leads to AOA. If the airplane can operate at high AOA you can use that ability to maneuver more quickly to get a shot. The downside is it loads the airplane and will cost you airspeed.

As a bit of an extended answer to my colleague above, the hornet has great alpha and nose authority/slow speed maneuvering qualities. Where is this an advantage? Well, say an aircraft that wants to stay fast might be able to make its way around a circle at x° per second, but the diameter of the circle may be fairly large. A hornets advantage comes in its ability to point its nose across the circle and basically fly around inside the radius of the plane trying to race around the circle, keeping its nose pointed at it the whole time. The hornet also has unique rudder authority at high alpha. Most planes will lose rudder authority due to the body blocking airflow over the vertical tail at high alpha, but thanks to the f18s LEX and canted out tails, it still has loads of rudder with the nose at high alpha. KZread f18 loaded roll for example.

I'm all for the new Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning IIs and the new Boeing F-15EX Advanced Strike Eagles in the United States Air Force but I'd love to see Lockheed Martin being able to restart the F-22A Raptor production line!

The F16 MUST keep the speed up above 385 to 450knots to maneuver against legacy Hornet. The Hornet pilot want to fight one circle fight at 340 knots .

Wow, an F/A-18A+ story. F/A-18A with upgrades similar to the early production F/A-18C (Lot 10-11 F/A-18C). 18:30 Of course, some F/A-18A airframes were selected to upgrade into the A+, which it can be very confusing to the 88’ - 89’ Lot 10-11 F/A-18Cs.
