Part 2/2
While the weather was nice, our owner decided to take a helicopter trip to a private landing site, which is commonly known in the helicopter training world as a "confined area".
#EveryDayIsALearningDay so he brought along our Head of Training to give some constructive advice before and during the flight.
Part 1 available here: • Flying an MD520 helico...

While you are in forward flight if you rest the cyclic and hand against your leg it make a smother and less stressful flight.
great landing location
Relax on the cyclic. Too much erratic movements make for pukey pax! I’m surprised the instructor didn’t say something?
Impressive compared to the antediluvian H-21'bananas'....aboard which I was a very nervous passenger circa 1960-62.
Woooooo
Love the pilot's glasses. What brand/style?

They are a brand that I can't find the name of but were designed by Pininfarina as a limited edition, will try to find the name for you.

Probably my low hours over control!
Quiet inside.
Why does this helicopter have an American registration ?
Way too much cyclic movement in cruise my man. Trim it out nicely and just rest your arm on your knee, or you’ll tire yourself out! 😊
Where I can learn to fly MD520N ..?

If you are based in the UK check out our website www.ice.co.uk/md-520-notar-helicopter-type-rating-course-london/ Otherwise let us know where you're located and we can see if we know of any training providers.

They do however, you’d be sacrificing a significant amount of payload to have one installed

Rain is fine, if its below 5c then you need to put on the anti ice
If you don't mind, I'd like to hang out the rear door with an M60!
How long has this guy been flying this helicopter he still needs a checklist..

Some people prefer to use one, reduces the chance of missing something, especially when carrying passengers who usually ask questions and distract you at the most in opportune times.

38 years, but when I swap from diferent types such as just after an annual, it helps remind me which heli I am in and the start procedures. The 520 is just three switches to start but it is easy to get distracted at busy GA airports so it helps me stay in the zone. There are numerous examples of people not using a checklist and getting themselves (and others) hurt, particularly in respect of hydraulics, the 500 series has none of those and its hard to get much wrong versus the MD600N where you would not want to forget the YSAS. Or maybe I am just old!

When I flew fixed wing as a private pilot, I ALWAYS used a checklist. When experienced pilots get "comfortable" with a routine and get complacent is when mistakes can happen.

Always use the checklist. I got my PPL(A) in '92, & my PPL(H) in '96, and I've never flown either without them. Good airmanship.
