I recall in the late 70's. Meeting a Gazelle passing to our port side, Huey. He went to a hover, then backwards and kept up with us. It was well above trees, but now our pilot became his eyes for quite a distance.

Damn, I can’t find the MD Heilicopters - Commercial spot again for the NOTAR Technology where a MD520 N was flying slowly backwards into a tree without crashing to show this genius invention. Really tight quarters. Weren't you afraid you'd stick the tail rotor in the trees? I did a similar landing in Vietnam and had two crewmen on the skids to make sure we didn't back into a tree. While we were working on the landing the VC showed up and shot us down. Great landing on your part. Kudos from someone who can really appreciate what you did.

Let off survey crews! The logs were cut too wide for the 520 so I just balanced on the left skid so they could exit the aircraft!

Let off survey crews! The logs were cut too wide for the 520 so I just balanced on the left skid so they could exit the aircraft!

Brian Callahan the blades on the helicopter is to keep him cool. Don’t think so? Stop them and watch the pilot start panicking and sweating.

That is what 90% of Alaska man made LZ are! Logs put in place to land on!
