Learn To Tie This Scaled-down Articulated Fly Pattern Modeled After the Classic Spey Flies Used to Target Salmon and Steelhead (flymenfishingcompany.com/blog...)
Tying with Senyo's Micro Shank allows you to tie this spey fly pattern in sizes more suited for trout and panfish while still using the swing techniques used for targeting salmon and steelhead.
Senyo's Micro Shank was co-designed by Greg Senyo, a prominent steelhead and salmon expert who has designed many leading fly tying materials.
Senyo’s Micro Shank is a smaller, lighter version of the popular Senyo’s Articulated Shank, and is a simple, versatile solution for tying a variety of small, articulated flies such as petite trout wet flies, low-water steelhead flies, sparse streamer designs, and small traditional salmon flies. The wire diameter is small enough to directly attach to hooks as small as size #10.
The ultralight, slim, and strong shank also offers a new option for tying surface flies and brings a high degree of realistic, articulated movement to small fly design.

Very nice fly! What kind of wire? Won’t it helicopter off after some use?

The wire used in this tying video looks too flimsy to last very long... I have started tying this fly using Senyo's intruder wire for size 6 and smaller and replacing the scud hook with a size 8 or 10 stinger hook. Flies are the perfect balance of weight and aesthetics. 3 color combo's based upon advice for swinging for trout - all black, Olive/Orange and Brown/Yellow. Much easier to tie than sizing down the Brett's Klamath Intruder using composite loops of rabbit fur. One variation I'm going to try is using small bead chain eyes for a little weighting during higher water flows this fall/winter/spring

Wondering what color combinations would work for specifically targeting trout? I'm guessing an Olive/Chartreuse combo and/or Brown/Copper/Orange? Any other color combo's for targeting trout - specifically dark coloration?

What's the reasoning for having the trailing hook pointing up vs pointing down?

I commend the brevity of this presentation--some guys would take 2 or 3 times as long to demo a pattern like that. I usually time out before they get to the end. I take issue with calling closely wound wraps "palmering." That normally means spaced out wraps.

    Why not an intruder hook...

I'm guessing hook size used isn't available from OPST and others - IIRC, they only go down to size 6 on their intruder hooks.

I discovered Gamakatsu does go all the way down to a size 14 for their Octopus hook - I just ordered 3 packs of Gamakatsu Octopus hooks in size 12 for custom tying clients
