Damselflies are a source of food to trout on streams as well as all fish in lakes. They come in many different colors, this is just one.

First off I just got into fly fishing recently and watching your videos quickly made me want to take it a step further and start tying. I was leaving the water last week and noticed these ebony jewel wings flying around. As a beginner fly fisherman I spent hours online trying to figure out what the hell those were lol. I spent even more time trying to find a fly that for sale that matched. I just wanted to say I love your channel and I'm glad I saw this video.

Hey Jim, Absolutely Beautiful fly! I can't wait to tie one. I think the green hue on the feathers are on some of the feathers from the birds I got in that lot. I did not forget that you wanted to see pics, I just haven't had any time to take some and have to learn what to do with them once I take them. You know I am caring for my terminally ill wife which takes up all of my time. Not that I mind. All the best, Sean

I would have to agree damsel adults seldom are on the water long enough for trout to feed on them.(in streams) In lakes they will be more effective. The wings are just rooster hackle, I took these from a furnace hackle. Jim

Jim, Hi! another good one sir, with Damsels we find the Nymph works best here in the UK. Damsel Adults will rise trout but we find they seldom take them. Did you use Magpie for the Wings, a Black and White bird Corvid with lots of green tinges on the Black Feathers of the Tail and shoulders. Will tie one up and give it a try let you know how it goes. All the Best Rod
