Fly Fishing Lower Kern River Canyon | Four Different Species To The Net!
Спорт
After failing to land a Carp at Isabella Lake on my birthday, I decided to try for some Smallies on the Lower Kern in the Canyon. It turned out way better than I expected with a fair share of Small Mouth Bass, Large Mouth Bass, Crappie and Pike Minnows. It was a great day!

When I was a kid (10-11) I almost stepped on a rattle snake in the Upper Kern. Ever since I have rarely ventured back but watching your videos is giving me the itch to try again.

I ran into a rattlesnake while making this video, but I've never been bit or stuck at unless I was trying to pick it up.
Great job. First video I’ve seen that makes the lower Kern look fun!

It's usually overlooked, but there are some great spots if you are willing to hike.
Love the video. I would fish the Kern when I was younger but came across a rattlesnake once and have not been back....I would love to fish the Kern again but man that coiled up rattler sticks in my mind.

Thanks! I've ran into a few, but never had any strike. They're usually pretty good at letting me know where they are. There was one maybe 10 ft from me in this video and I couldn't spot it exactly so I went waaay around it just to be safe.
Had no idea the Kern river had crappie and bass

Yeah, there's quite a bit right there in the canyon. There's also catfish and carp.

@@RoadandReel good to know, I’ll avoid that area😂 I’d rather find trout on my rod if I’m driving to Kern

How far up or down is that area from the lake?..
JP! You are a man of many fishing talents! Looks awesome out there. Nice work.

Thanks, I always appreciate your comments! The Kern Canyon is usually only known for how dangerous it is, but it also has some great fishing.
Good video
Going out to kern this weekend!! Super excited to fish for trout

Should be really good. The water has been high and murky, but I think the runoff is slowing down. Everything is clearing back up and the fish are hungry! Good luck!
Love the content brotha. I frequent the UKR and the LKR. I almost wanna say we've chatted about LKR and bass at Guy's shop a few weeks back

Hey, I think we did! That was about the same time I made this video. I just got back from the Upper and it was tough fishing today. The water was very discolored. I ended up fishing for natives up on Brush Creek.

@@RoadandReel yea the snowmelt churned it up pretty good. My wife and I decided to hit other rivers til it clears. Thinking of hitting LKR now thanks to the vid
Nice fishing. How far down was it from Lake Isabella? Thanks

Thanks! This was above Upper Richbar in one of the turnouts.
Nice day on the water. What is the name of the forceps are you using?

Thanks! Those are the Loon QuickDraw Forceps. They are solid and also do a great job of cutting line.
Aren't we supposed to kill Pikeminnows??

In some places, you get paid to kill them. I think up on the Columbia and Snake River you can get paid for catching and killing them, but I usually leave them alone unless I'm in a native trout fishery where they aren't supposed to be. When I'm going for bass and crappie, I don't worry about it. In some areas in California they are protected too.
Where on the lower Kern is this?
