Nice video! Another tip for keeping the Power Bait on the hook, wet it before casting and the outside will harden a bit. Keeps it from flying off on hard casts.

Nice trouts. Which section of Upper Kern did you fish? It looks nice holes there. I've fished the CNR section quite a few times.

@@RoadandReel ok so I've been to Kennedy meadow once this year. We caught fish that were stocked. Do you know if the fish u majorly catch is stock or wild or both? Like do the stocked ones stay near where they are stocked or they swim alll up and down the river. Also I don't fly fish unfortunately, I haven't learned how. And I don't think we can hike much since my dad is kinda older. Like short hike is ok but not too far. Would some of the places u mentioned be ok for that too. I was tryna stay in the main kern river and not the forks.

@@RoadandReel i went last weekend, i made a mistake. on weekends theres SOOO many people tubing and playing in the water it was kind of hard to fish. I did find a spot with a couple of fish, but most of the day was dry. But it was fun regardless. Thanks for the info

Any place up above MacNally's is great. The season is in full swing with swimmers and tubers, so get there early or in the evening. Good luck and tight lines!

Any of the turn outs or raft launch areas will be easy to get to. Those areas are all heavily stocked with trout, but there are plenty of wild trout in there as well.

Were you able to pull up right up to the stream or did you have to h ike a ways from the parking for peppermint creek?

  • @RoadandReel

The campground was closed due to Covid restrictions, but normally you could pay your use fee and park right by the river. I parked a little past the bridge and hiked in on the North side of the creek. It was about a 5-10 minute hike. If you are up for it, there is a trail that follows that creek and connects Upper and Lower Peppermint camp grounds. The fishing can really be good when the Kern is blown out with snow melt.

Anywhere up around Fairview is a great area if you can beat the swimmers there. You can do well all the way up to the bridge.

The first small one is on Peppermint Creek. There isn't any reception up there beyond the power plant out of Kernville. I rally like the areas up by Limestone Campground and Brush Creek area when the crowds are gone.
