I’m new to fly fishing and I don’t have any of this I only have a rod and some flys because it is so expensive for everything

Thank you Mike - I appreciate you taking the time to watch, it is very much appreciated. I haven't as of yet - balancing the work life and my growing channel is becoming a bit more challenging. Perhaps one day I can do this for a living - now wouldn't that be grand :)). As for a meet-up type of event - I will definitely give that consideration for the future. Cheers and FISH-ON!

I love my streemer. If I'm unsure what to cast I aways throw a streemer. I got a 14" small mouth bass yesterday in about 2½ feet of water

Dan, excellent video as always ! As long as you're including lip balm and sunscreen, I emphatically recommend bringing a small quantity of TP in a sealed sandwich bag. Leaves just don't cut it for me ! 😂🙃 Looking forward to seeing your leader and tippet selection video, as I am reminded watching your selection here that there is more than one way to skin the cat...

Don't forget a Ziploc sandwich bag with some toilet paper in it. It doesn't take up much space but man, it's nice to have when you need it. 🙂 And great video BTW. Your transitions to and from your b-roll looks great!

Thank you for reminding me that i have to start cleaning and arranging all my freshwater and saltwater fly boxes. I've been putting it of way too long! Our season starts up in April and we all know that before you know it April is here. Thanks Dan

My wife :))...when she's not around to help...I found the socks I wear make a huge difference in being able to slip the wader bootie off. I wear liners and smart wool socks - doesn't 'stick' when I pull them off heel first, then slide your foot out. Hope that helps!

It’s like Dry-Z-Air for your flies

And if you can follow this wisdom you can catch 98% of the fish for about 2% of the cost. All the additional junk might be fun but, in the end, it rarely matters that much.

I’m just learning to fly fish. Unfortunately I have balance problems (from cancer treatment) which can make it hard for me to go into a stream. Anyone have any suggestions on what I need to fish from the shore or just a little ways into the water? I’ve tried wearing waders but they’re just a little to heavy for me. Maybe someone knows of a lighter brand?

A tapered leader in fly fishing is a specially designed section of fishing line that connects the heavier fly line to the nearly invisible tippet, to which the fly is tied. The purpose of the tapered leader is to transfer energy from the fly line through to the fly, allowing for smooth, accurate casts and delicate presentations. Construction: It is constructed with a thick butt section that tapers down to a thinner midsection and even thinner tip. This gradual reduction in diameter helps to turn over the fly effectively. Materials: Leaders are typically made from monofilament or fluorocarbon. Monofilament is more buoyant and stretchy, while fluorocarbon is less visible underwater and sinks faster. Lengths: Common lengths range from 7.5 feet to 12 feet, though longer leaders are used in specific situations, such as in still waters or for spooky fish. Tippet The tippet is the final, thin section of the leader system to which the fly is directly tied. It is the part of the leader that is most frequently replaced due to breakage or the need to change flies. Materials: Like leaders, tippets are also made from monofilament or fluorocarbon. Sizes: Tippet sizes are measured in X ratings (e.g., 0X, 1X, 2X, etc.), with higher numbers representing thinner diameters. A 6X tippet is thinner and less visible than a 0X tippet but also less strong. Purpose: The tippet provides the final degree of stealth and flexibility in presenting the fly to the fish. It is critical for delicate presentations and achieving the correct drift in the water. Relationship between Leader and Tippet The tapered leader transitions the energy from the thicker fly line to the fly. The tippet is the section that is regularly replaced to maintain the proper length and strength for fly presentation. Tippets are added to the end of the leader using various knots like the double surgeon’s knot or blood knot, maintaining the seamless energy transfer and delicate presentation needed for successful fly fishing.
