Fluval FX6 Leak Repair
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
This video shows you how I repaired leaks on my Fluval FX6, and also a few of my aquascaping updates.
On a side note, I'm planning to bake my aqua soil to remove snails. I also ran bleach through my plumbing and filter for 2 days. I'm in the process of sealing my PVC plumbing. After that, I'll install everything, and will run tap water through my plumbing to remove the bleach. I'm planning to repeat this process one more time, and then I can finally start aquascaping again. This time, I'll have to add more alum and quarantine new plants longer.

I did this yesterday on my FX4, and it worked perfectly. Nothing like a $5 fix to avoid making a $300 mistake. Thank you.

I’m glad it worked for you.
Purge valve issues upon cleaning FX4 today, leaking like mad. Thank you for this!! Knocked it out with a 15mm, gave it a good clean, reassembled & leak was a drop every few minutes, whilst I await the grease to finish it. Top tips for the rest of the valves as well for future. Nice one.

Hopefully it’ll work for you. Sometimes particles scratch the gaskets and we have no choice, but to get an entirely new part. You can find o-rings at the hardware store, but you can’t do the same for the gaskets for the valves on top
Thank You Joshism. I have an FX4 and a FX6 both are leaking. I was going to stop using the filter and shop for a new filter. I'm going to give this a try! Maybe I can stop shopping! By the way, your planted tank is Beautiful!!!

I hope this helps. If not, you’ll have to replace the gaskets.
Thx. Save my fish life:)

You’re welcome.
If you could do a video explaining how you plumb your FX6 would be awesome. I’m very impressed, I run a FX6 for my 40g saltwatertank and would love to see how I can plumb it using pvc instead of the original hose it came with.

I don’t really want to touch it. Every time I take it out, it gets sand or something on it, and it scratches the o-ring and I end up having to buy a new valve. All you need to do is turn it and wiggle it out.

To remove the purge valve. It has a clip you push out and then you can turn the purge valve. Now you can pull out the purge valve.
Any worries about the grease being harmful for fish or plants?

No. The same grease is used in reverse osmosis water filters for human consumption.
Just tried it and it didn't work for me got tiny tear drop leak so I guess I'll be trying to find this part 🤷🏾♂️

It worked for one of mine, but not the other, because I had a small tear on one of them. I ended up buying one as well.

@@joshisms2pesosonaquascapin164 I got it to work 😎
Can you get new seal or is it a fix or new tap

They don’t sell the seals. I fixed one of mine with the lubricant, and the other one was torn, so I had to get a whole new valve.
The on/off valves are the worst. Someone needs to mod real metal plumbing valves to the FX6. For the money you spend you shouldn't get cheap plastic valves that wear out after a dozen turns.

Yeah. Even standard PVC ball valves would be better

I could tell you how to retrofit the plastic ones and upgrade them to stainless but I don't post videos of my work I sell the retrofit valves for $100 each. If fluval made the valves from stainless they wouldnt be able to sell the filters for what they do. Filter maintenance costs are a part of the hobby. if you can't afford to keep up the maintenance on the equipment then don't spend the money on the filter. I love the fluval filters. They leak and people sell them for $100 all day long. I just fixed an fx4 I got for $75 and resold for $175 in less than 24 hours. Now that the communists have ruined the economy all the apartment dwellers are dumping their equipment left and right for food money. I can't buy and resell this stuff fast enough.
use a hole saw and cut a plug to fit inside on the inner rim of the fitting. sand a groove in the plug where the retaining tab is and use an old credit card and cut a piece and screw it to the plug. Now you can insert this into the fluval valve fitting and push the inner sealing turn knob out without ever busting the tab or cracking the plastic by using a socket nut driver like a downs baby. good god buddy no wonder your pvc connections leak. KZread is great for laughs
