Morning! I am looking at this tank which brought me to your video. I just wanted to comment on your other betta, it is a male :) he’s just a shorter finned guy, and he’s very lovely!

Thank you! He has matured into a handsome guy. (Can definitely tell he is a male now!)

@@beverlyfincannon2411 It's still up and running! It even sustains the plants I put in there (except floaters, for some reason.) The plants don't grow like crazy, but since this is such a small aquarium, I actually prefer that to having to hack them back every week.

I bought the Top Fin 3.6 gal Hydro Change tank for my Betta. I like it because just doing water changes are far easier and with only SusieQ and my Nerite Snail in there I don't have to gravel vac very often. Very similar to the Fluval except the filter set up, and water change set up.

I've looked at the Top Fin tanks before, but ultimately was afraid they'd be a waste of money. It sounds like if anything on them does break (like the built in lights on some of them) you can't get replacement parts. How is yours doing?

@@orcachick2005 As for the lights, I have extras that just clip on the tank. And if the pump ever fails, I just go back to doing things the old way with a self priming filter set up. I have two of them doing nothing right now.

Very nice and useful video, the dimmer light looks great for a bedroom, very pleasing to the eye. I also have a question, is the filter noisy? I'm planning on buying this for my bedroom. Thank you!

Not at all. If the water level gets low you might hear the water gurgle a bit, but other than that it's been pretty silent.

i got mine around 2-3 months ago and i like it a lot. the size is nice and fluval is a good brand but then you run into those groupies that yell at you for not having a tank above 5 gallons. i did put in some live plants a week ago and I think they're dying but I'm just gonna let it be and see if it'll bounce back. question though, so whenever i do a water change and rinse out the diffusion pad, i'd have to pull up the entire thing right. do you also have the issue where the whole rubber thing also plops out? or like the pump won't stick to the bottom anymore. right now it's not all the way down so the water is kind of diffusing weirdly but I've been too lazy to move the tank and fix it. they say to rinse it once a week but that seems bothersome that it does that. maybe it's just me though :(

I haven't figured out any other way to remove the diffusion pad. I definitely don't rinse it once a week though. It's been a couple months since I last rinsed mine! I will say I don't bother sticking the filter to the tank, since it's kind of a pain to unstick it when doing maintenance.

@@orcachick2005 yeah i’m probably not gonna keep trying to rinse it then. for me though, if it’s not stuck all the way it produces a weird vibration sound that annoys me and yeah. thanks for the quick response though since this video is pretty old :)

Nice tanks! I just bought the Fluval Betta tank and the heater doesn’t work very well. Water temp stays at 70 degrees which is too cold. I will need another heater before I put a fish in it.

I haven't had that problem. Sits consistently at around 80 degrees. If the ambient temperature is too low, the heater won't be able to keep up. Or maybe you got a lemon, so sorry! :(

Hi Daisy, do you still have this set up? I just purchased one as I really liked the intake and outtake grate idea and wanted to know what you thought atfer a couple months of running.

Hi ZombieLuv! It's still up and running, one of these days I'll post a video. I really do like it! The flow seemed strong at first, but after a week or two the sponge on the output had colonized with bacteria to the point that the flow has really mellowed out. I had a halfmoon betta in this tank for a bit (Ruth Betta Finsburg sadly passed away shortly after this video was taken) and he did fine. Right now I have a male Plakat in there.

@@orcachick2005 thanks for the reply Daisy. I just got mine today in the mail and have it filled to test out the seals/make sure it doesn't leak before I stock it. I also have a male hmpk betta in another tank that will be going in the betta spec once it's fully set up.

Actually, the plants have been fine. A little bit of the usual crypt melt, but nothing dramatic, and it bounced back super quickly. No issues at all with the other plants. I'll post an update video soon.

It's a pricey tank, but if you can get it on sale, I'd definitely say go for it. The nice thing about the Fluval Spec tanks is that they have a customizable built in filtration system- super easy to jump start the cycle by using media from another filter- and this tank addresses the flaw of the Spec line, which was the filtration output being too strong for a betta. Plus the fact that it comes with its own heater that is actually supposed to be hidden in the back compartment is fantastic!
