I've developed a technique where I can get the toilet to flush more slowly by *gradually* pushing down on the handle as slowly as possible until it goes down. I don't know how much it helps, but I no longer feel water splashing on my butthole when I utilize this technique!

I saw a news segment years ago on something like 20/20, where they used some particles that glowed under UV light. They were able to show how the particles shot up out of the toilet and landed on basically every surface in the room. I haven't been able to find that episode again, but I have seriously hated public restrooms ever since, especially if other people are in the bathroom with me.

fr I first saw the episode when I was like 9 and my mom always wanted to go to the bathroom with me on road trips and stuff if it was one stall or a handicap and I hated it bc of this episode.

Nowadays so many Public toilets don’t have lids at all & so many are automatic can’t even get your pants up to be able to run like hell 😭

Is there a link to the study? I'm curious the mechanical differences between a commercial toilet versus a consumer grade toilet. I would imagine a massive difference between a low flow toilet and the jet engine they have in an airport bathroom

I always flush with the lid down since I watched the Mythbusters episode on fecal particulates nastiness

Learned this in home-ec class in high school. Cross-contamination and the importance of washing your hands after the bathroom or to always do your bathroom business before or after never in between.

I hate using public toilets. As a (retired) medical professional, I know more than most about how unsanitary using one can be. I found wonderful, and very large toilet seat covers on Amazon. They're not expensive, but they cover the seat fully, and hang very low on the outside of the commode, too. They aren't flushable, but if you grasp them on the side that touches your upper thighs, then ball it up, you can get them to the trash can without touching the toilet seat side. Just wash your hands for 20 to 30 seconds after throwing them away. No, you can't get an STD from a bare toilet seat, but think about sitting on a seat where many people's bare thighs have been on that seat, PLUS the urine and fecal matter on the seat after so many flushes🤢🤮. Please buy toilet seat covers and use them!!! There's a lot of them to choose from: plastic ones that just cover the seat - very cheap - on up to full coverage of the seat that hangs almost to the floor.

That's why I put the lid down and other than my son, I don't know anyone else that puts the lid down.

Even after watching this. There's no way my wife will put the lid down, ever. She just doens't do it, it's like it's only there when she needs to put it up.

Do you know what happens when you flush with the lid down but there is a clog? You don't out about it until you're standing in floating $hi+.

THIS 100%. *Most* toilets at home don’t mix enough air and are not fast enough to make this sort of a mess.

Imagine when you turn on the ventilation fan, how far the yucky stuff would spread...

Spray desinfectan before flush.

Cat food near the toilet? You realize when you flush the toilet water particles and “other” particles spray everywhere?

I have a few concerns, if this video is legit, and to me it looks and sounds, legit. When you really think about it, THIS IS KINDA GROSS! Consider this. Most hospital public restroom toilets that I've used ... DO NOT HAVE A TOILET BOWL LID/COVER. And think, who are the most likely people using these public restrooms in hospitals? Visitors that have just gotten out of a very sick patient's room. Maybe some staff or workers of the hospital that don't always wash their hands that well nor do they use alcohol gel. And now they're in the public restroom using it, before they leave for home. That's after working with patients that had really bad GI problems... If this is true, then WHY DON'T MOST PUBLIC RESTROOMS IN HOSPITALS HAVE LID COVERS? ?
