I haven't owned a turntable since I was a kid, and it was a poor one at that. I got this Fluance RT81 a few months ago along with a pair of powered stereo speakers. I love it. The audio quality is plenty good enough, considering my modest speaker setup and the fact that I live in an apartment so I won't be blasting it anyway. It's aesthetically pleasing, reliable, and probably one of the higher quality turntables in this price range. As a Canadian, I'm also pleased this turntable comes from a company in Canada.

Are the speakers and turntables the basic equipment needed to just get up and running? I am just getting into it, and I don’t need much, considering my small office space. Thanks!

@@Gleem1313 Yeah, powered speakers and the turntable are all you need since the turntable has a built-in preamp. I later got a separate preamp which performs a bit better than the built-in one.

Kmg24 can I get a honest opinion though! because I started off as a beginner just playing around with records but that was around 2 years ago and now I have a huge collection and the Crosley Cruiser CR8005D-BK I have is absolutely awful. Would you recommend this one over any other one such as the Numark and Audio-Technica ones and argue it’s probably the most reliable one that looks and sounds good for what it’s worth? Please just asking for opinion lol!

I'm not familiar with Numark turntables, so I can't comment on them. I understand that Audio Technica turntables at the same price point as this RT81 are perhaps a bit more reliable, but I still haven't had any problems with my setup, and like the design of it a great deal more. Also, consider that you'll also need to purchase your speakers separately, and will likely need a pre-amp as well, unless you have that built into the speakers you buy. And if you don't already have any means of cleaning your records, from simple brushes to bespoke machines, that's something else to consider, more so as your collection grows. But yes, in short, I highly rate this turntable, but if you don't care for the aesthetics, the Audio Technica turntables might be a better choice.

    6 жыл бұрын

No, no. All proper turntables that aren't like Crosleys will need external speakers. Good speakers should cost at least half the cost of the turntable itself, I'd say. And as far as cleaning, you'll be mostly fine if you buy a microfiber brush - You can get a good one for under $10.

Great, honest review. The turntable is attractive for it's price point and I am assuming the profit margins are pretty slim on it for what they did put into it. Also, I do agree with the critique of the motor adjustments. I haven't checked but perhaps Fluance could do their own video on the set up and use yours as a reference point. If you're struggling with it, I am sure there is going to be many others. If I had someone just getting into vinyl, I would probably recommend this over an Audio Technica deck.

Great review! I've had mine for a couple of months now.I have a more recent model, my came out of the box at 33.4. I found it easy to fine tune, ...you should know that you DON'T turn it upside down. I put it between two chairs and adjusted it from below while my wife watched the numbers on the phone app. Took like 5 minutes, little hassle and got it spot on. Next upgrades will be the Mani Schiit pre-amp and the Nagaoka MP110. Again, DO NOT TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN. Fluance has a video on doing it. Well worth the watch. Thanks for another great video and review!

I have an old DUAL 1241 fully automatic belt drive turntable that I got used, but it seems to pick up a lot of dust noise even on freshly cleaned records, there also have been issues with the connections on the RCA cable. I've been looking at replacing it with a slightly newer turntable and the Fluance 81 has been at the top of my list in my price point, but i'm not sure if I'll actually be taking a step backwards. I know I'll miss the fully automatic operation, but I'm hoping it will be worth it for the smoother more balanced sound, and slick look. I'll for sure be AB testing between the two of them when it arrives before making a final decision.

Any advice on setup and breaking in of this deck? are 24 hours of consecutive play truly warranted? Do I need to hook up the ground? Is a surge protector necessary to prevent wow and flutter? Gut out the build in pre amp and reconnect the wiring to the tone arm then you will hear the difference of different phono stage pre amps . Yes, I know there is a bypass option for the el cheapo build-in pre amp but the additional circuitry of the build in pre amp is not a direct path to the external pre-amp. That's why you do not hear any 60 Hz hum without the ground cable connnect to the external amp. It is still connected inside of the RT81.

Great review, very subjective. I feel like considering the cost if the alternative tables in the sub 500 range ie Rega, project, even mo fi, or denon/Sony get great value when resold as is often the case when you buy an entry level deck and the rest of your system outgrows it ( personal experience with this) if it would be a good idea to look into whether these new brands ( Fluance, U-turn etc) have resale value. It is a crummy thing to spend 250.00 on something only to need to replace it once you get an amplifier and speakers worthy of displaying it flaws, and those flaws with decent budget audiophile gear become enormous! So saving the bit extra and getting something like the project dc, or even more the Rega rp3 might be advisable depending on the users long term goals. There are just far too many high end brands that have more then 50 years experience making these things in this section of the market to justify the risk of buying something you will lose a lot of money on when you advance..... and for those of us who scrimp for these things it can be a detriment. Love your channel, keep up the good work!

Great review, Eric. I was a little disappointed when the table came out that I had JUST bought my U-Turn... but I think the U-Turn fits me better... but the Fluance looks great for beginners, for sure.

I wish the U-Turn had some better components like this one did, if I could put the two together, that would be a great deck. I think I have to jump up to the next price tier to get what I really want out of a turntable

Ben Brenizer I would love to recommend the U Turn more but the dust cover hinges are terrible. Otherwise though it’s a great table. The fluance is great basic deck. Both are great starter decks but if you plan on playing a lot of 7” records I would go for the Fluance. For automatic functions take a look at the Marantz TT42P. You have more options with a vintage deck

Ben Brenizer what’s your budget? What features appeal to you with an automatic TT? IMO you will be happy with a manual deck. The Fluance is nice because it will stop spinning when the tonearm hits the runout. You could then add a Q Up and save any unnecessary ware on the stylus. If you have the money I think you would like the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon ($399) or the Rega Planer 1 ($475). If you want 78rpm check out the Music Hall MMF-1.5. Also I just saw this fully auto TT Denon DP-300F, looks like it’s better than the Marantz.

Ben Brenizer the project dc is fantastic. Have one I just got with a grado prestige blue. Also picked up a rega fono mm preamp, totally satisfied with both purchases, not to mention if you spring a little extra for a dc or an rp3 you can get very near to what you bought it for when you decide to upgrade someday if properly taken care of. I don’t know if the fluance has a good resell value ( have doubts about that) I do know that I should not have bought a sub 400.00 table for my first one a couple years back, I should have been patient and saved for something I wouldn’t want/need to replace right away. The project dc should keep anyone satisfied for a good while before upgrading. Also the hum issue with dc”s is exaggerated and the newest ones have no problems, at least mine has been dead quiet and very well put together. Cheers!

It looks like a reproduction of a Herman Miller "Eames" lounge chair, that usually comes with an ottoman. I suppose it could be a genuine Herman Miller "Eames", but it's hard to tell from this vid.

I don't know if you've done a setup video before, but what amp and turntable do you have? I've got a similar Yamaha CR-420 amp, but I'm more interested in the turntable. Currently I've got a Technics SL-3200.

depends where I'm listening. In the pad it's a Yamaha CR-620, actually I have two of those. The deck I used for a long time in the Pad is a YP-211. The speakers are Sansui's

Do you have any thoughts on the Audio Technica LP-3? I haven't heard anyone talk about it. It's the turntable I have and I love it, but I'm also not super attuned to things like wow & flutter so I don't know if those are there or not. It feels pretty sturdily made, all plastic except for things that need to be other material like the platter but very heavy. When I got mine at Fry's Electronics along with an AT95E cartridge to replace the stock one it was ~$250.

Timothy E. I was considering buying the LP 3 at Fry’s to replace the LP 60, that I gave away as a gift. Looks like a very nice table, but at $250.00, I think it’s just a bit overpriced, as it seems to be a lot like the LP 60, except with a better tone arm. I noticed they had the LP 5 for $280.00, so I got that instead. It usually is priced at $450.00. I hope you got yours at a good price, I really like Audio Technica gear.

I have not used that deck but I have a LP-120 that I like a lot. It's a workhouse for me. The LP-3 looks like it's better quality than the LP 60 IMO

BUY THIS OVER LP120. My lp120 along with many others have been giving off a very loud noise which is the motor. It’s so damn distracting and I had to give it away. I bought this and it’s fantastic. Definitely an upgrade.

I would recommend the Fluance RT-81 as a starter turntable except for the tone arm. It is very cheaply made. We had ours for close to 2 years and the lock caused a mark on the tone arm because of poor quality plastic they used. Even if you move up to the RT-85 you get the same tone arm! I upgraded to a T Technic SL-1500C-K
