I have similar memories with the big chest style record player that was in the corner. Dad would come home from work and say "I could hear that music at the bottom of the street. . ." Did you get a chance to see him in concert? I saw him on his last tour here in Australia and he sounded as good as (if not better than) the records or any other recordings.

Me too and always loved him. Wrote to him in my twenties and asked home where he might be performing,he said he’d be in Blackpool on a certain dates. I arranged to go there from west wales. I wanted to have his autograph,and asked the security if I could I could see him, he went to ask ,he came back and asked if I wasMrs Rees,you can imagine I proud I was he remembered my letter ,I was asked me to come to his dressing room.,had a chat and autograph. Was I a happy bunny.😊

Ah, it makes me feel like walking those green hills of Scotland. I visited once many years ago, and I've always held that land and its people in my heart. There are parts of Marin County (just north of San Francisco) that remind me of Scotland. By no coincidence, the town in that area is called Inverness!

The best rendition of this is from the Scottish rugby international that first DARED to allow Scots to think that they might have a mind of their own. Atmospheric in the extreme - watch the eyes of the players, tentative they might have been in this first rendition but the crowd was rollicking and alive !

1603 is the union of the crowns. The UK was created in 1707. Probably intentional by England to bankrupt Scotland over colony set up in the Americas.
