    Attention: The mitral valve is the same as the bicuspid valve. Also a good way of remembering which valve comes first is "Tri it before you bi it". Hope this helps.

He's referring to the image. ALL images describing the movement of blood through the heart depict deoxygenated blood as blue...seriously. Let's use some logic here.

    You mentioned the Pulmonary Artery carrying deoxygenated blood to the lungs, and oxygenated blood being returned to the heart/ dumped into the Left Atrium, but you never mentioned O2 rich blood being returned to the Left Atrium by the Pulmonary Vein. I commented on my iPhone, so I just used one of my emojis haha. Veins look blue (or sometimes green) depending on what color tone your skin is. But basically it all has to do with what color wavelengths your skin absorbs. I can't remember if it's because your skin absorbs more blue than red, or the other way around. But all in all, whether it's venous blood or arterial blood, it's some shade of red due to the heme (iron carrying) molecules that make up hemoglobin! Hope this helped :)

    Really a beautiful organ. Just compare this to an insect heart, which has an open circulatory system - blood is not confined to vessels but circulates freely inside insect. There is one main vessel that runs along the length of the insect. It absorbs the blood in the insect's abdomen and then forces it up towards the head. All that adds up to a few inches of vessels in the largest insects... the average adult human has about 60000 miles of blood vessels. What a contrast! Both systems work incredibly well.

    Love this diagram! And your attention to detail! I re-watched it a couple of times while preparing for a quiz! Thank you for taking your time and posting this! However, I just wanted to let you know that blood is never blue. It is always red, they just labeled it blue v. red for teaching purposes.

    Meanwhile in nursing or in any pre-medical school, we get to delve into the nitty gritty stuff about the cardiovascular system, blood flow, etc. Knowing the basics is important so we go back here to refresh what we learned back in 6th or 7th grade

    didn't you forget to say that the blood coming back into the left ventricle comes in through the pulmonary veins? or am i wrong?

  • @juxsoundz4822

    @juxsoundz4822

    8 жыл бұрын

    You're kind of wrong. Blood goes from the pulmonary veins into the left atrium and then once in the atrium, systole must occur to push the blood through the mitral valve into the left ventricle

    When hemoglobin is carrying oxygen, it's chemical properties change and it gives your blood the reddish color you see when you cut your leg. When it is not carrying oxygen, hemoglobin gives your blood a bluish tint (it's not blue like the sky, but closer to a dark purple).
